Just take it one step at a time, JIG up the important stuff and take it one section and task at a time to not be overwhelmed and see forward progress. You can't take too many extra measurements

There are tons of shops that know how , the question is who is willimg to pay !! …. A dumb shop would do it right and lose money 9 x out of 10 …. Thats why most shops dont do resto , rust repair

I know from a few experiences , A M D after market panels are the best ones …. Never perfect but damn close , and heavier than dyna corp junk

Thank you! With some spot welders its pull and hold to intensify the weld, but with this pro spot pr-2000 welder everything is pre set on the panel. SO when I squeeze the trigger to weld the holding pressure, time, and amperage is all set to give a consistent weld and take human error out of it. It also holds the weld after to help while its cooling. Most of the time I am waiting on the welder pushing the buttons that are not active as I am trying to move on to the next weld spot.

@@carthageclassiccars Thanks for the explanation. My Father was for many years a spot welder and handled the ungainly machine with such dexterity.

I think there is a lot of variables in your question. It is a lot of work however guys do it in their own shops all the time. Do you know how to weld? Do you have a welder? A lot of tips and tricks in the video I show is under the assumption you would already have the basic fabrication skillset along with the tools that go along with it. If your going with full wheel tubs does that mean you will fabricate all the panels yourself because that also gets into a whole different world. The last part of that questions would be what your time is worth , your budget and what quality you want the car to be. If you have a tight budget on the car and have the tools might have to save on the labor cost and do it yourself. There is a lot of great shops out there but also some not so good ones so sometimes doing it yourself you know no corners are cut. Good luck with your build.

@@carthageclassiccars have most of the tools welders and basic knowledge of fabrication. Would it be best to put the quarters on before removing the floor and putting in the new chassis or do it beforehand? Thanks

@@robertpetrocelli8243 I personally like to do the floor first and get the whole base of the car solid and usually the quarters are at more towards the end of my builds on most of the cars I end up doing .

For the first drum you buy an personally the 40 grit I believe it is black drum s the way to go. I really only use the red ones to really fine tune the body panels prep them for welding and maybe remove e coat.

@@SubdivisionAuto Basically the etching primer is easy and cheap so I etch the bare exposed metal. Then when the car is all done and I am stripping the external body I finish it off with 2 really good coats everywhere with epoxy the etching primer usually is sanded off with a da 80 git with ease. When you finish this video series on this Nova when it leaves you will see the car is all in 1 color epoxy primer. For the time it takes to clean my spray guy cover up other stuff in the garage just to prime a few areas in epoxy I wouldn't get anything done efficiently. If I know I will be priming a large area of the car I will leave it and just epoxy the bare metal as you asked.

Thanks, to try and answer your question are you referring too the rear window channel? Where the quarter runs down the side of the back window glass? To remove that I used a air chisel and popped up the spot welds working around them carefully, but if you are not efficient with that you can use a spot weld cutter then the air chisel to pop them up. Hopefully that helps clear things up.

Thanks for the reply, sorry I wasn’t clear I was referring to where the quarter window drip rail meets the quarter panel , I see the drip rail gets left on the car and the old quarter is cut off along it in your video. Is there a row of spot welds that get removed later on? I hope that’s clearer

@@70AcadianSS Yes I understand usually there I will take a 4 inch grinding disk the stone ones about 1.4 inch thick on an angle grinder and slowly grind away the quarter portion without hitting the drip rail, while hammering a screw driver up the drip rail popping the spot welds. I think I did a video on a barracuda roof install where I went into further detail on how i do that process since this drip rails on that car are similar.

Thank you and yes I have installed a mini tub kit a while ago on a Nova. It came with new frame rail inserts and templates to cut the floor and trunk pans. They make some nice kits that make the cutting east with templates.

If you weren’t so far away . I’d send you my car to have this done. I have a 72 that’s been sitting in my garage for a while now. My car needs the rear section redone due to rust from a leaking trunk. The usual lower part of each quarter panels and lower portion of the rear glass where the package tray meets the trunk is rusted through. Your videos just showed me how each of those pieces come together . Amazing work and ethics . Your attention to detail . Keep this vids coming . 👍

There are a few cars over time I will do the body and paint to stay relevant , however with my current setup I am not as efficient with the paint/body. This owner was great to work for and I would have loved to finish this car however I focus on the metal work and most everything that comes in the shop inform the customer their dollar is better spent at other places. Hopefully down the road if I am able to upgrade the shop and find some help it might be another case.

You will at least have to pull apart the tail panel. Sometimes for the price its easier to just install a new one however I have saved the old panels with some care. I would also say you will need the trunk drop off extensions that match up with the bottom of the quarters. You would probably also need to remove then reinstall that rear seat bracket. Also on the car i was working on if you watch the video on this Nova trunk and floor install on my video list I had to remove the inner wheel houses or you will at least need to really move them out of the way. You are right the Nova trunk pan is huge and its a hard piece to install all together one time. Good luck with the project a 1 piece floor in these car is a big job.

Everyone does the job different and all cars will be slightly different so there is no really hard definite answer for your question.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by torque bar? If you are talking about the floor braces and supports they came on the one piece floor.

@@vincentmadera8159 Ah ok I see now, I don't have a video on them, but the non adjustable side goes in first, hooks around the hinge pillar, but don't set in up in the area it goes and let it sag while you line up the adjustable side with the least tensioned hole. then push up on the non adjustable side to get it hooked up top then you can more your adjustment side to set the desided tension . It is really hard to explain but hopefully this might help you

I think you can buy most everything but a few parts for this car new, Other model cars I know for sure they do sell everything new, but even with everything in the restoration world its a lot of work but I feel worth it when they are finished.

I am assuming you didn't watch the entire video because I go over why the quarter had to be cut. We all can't build perfect cars like you everyday, sometimes there are small imperfections like in most factory cars that were never built as show cars form the 60s and 70's and people want them fixed and aligned perfect. But anyway thanks for commenting.

I have seen that many times also really sad when some of us see the potential in these classics. There was one around here same thing i would go out there and try and buy half the classic car side of the yard....long story short steel scrap prices went up and they are all gone now.
