I found this four years too late! This is very similar to my uncle’s first new car, at least the way it rolled off the assembly line. Code 71 paint, black interior, flat hood. He he had the rear spoiler, but was without the console and had 3.36 gears - the tallest you could order in a Z-28. He was 21 when he ordered it. What a great find for you.

This is the “First Outstanding Restoration Video’s” (I believe there’s 13 in total) that I have ever watched in it’s totality, and man, was it “IMPRESSIVE”! I can appreciate your PASSION! Because I have that passion for both my 1990 Z28 IROC Convertible, and my “Dream Car”, my 1968 Camaro RS! That I just found and purchased just a few months ago. I admired the details and patience you had in restoring your Z28. Isn’t GREAT when a plan comes together? Just wanted to let you know that there’s someone else out there that can really appreciate the time, money and most important, LOVE you put into rebuilding your Beautiful Z28! OUTSTANDING JOB! Congratulations from an admirer.

I want my 68 back FULLY Rebuilt as I Intended it to be, that My "Best Friend" at the time was Rebuilding for me, being Fresh Out and Top 5 in his College Coarse, His Parents Sold in 92, Without a Title and Me knowing in the middle of the Build... Would have had a Brand New (1989) Trucks 350 w 5 Speed with only 500 miles on them, Tilt Telescoping Steering, Custom Kevlar ( Kevlar free from work ) Hood with Scoops and Kevlar Tail Wing, Fresh Restored/Covered Buckets, Dual 3" Exhaust, Brand New Carpet, Brand New F/R Quarters I got from work. $4000 just in Primer ( Free From Work ) Brand New Windshield/All Glass and everything else it needed to rebuild... All there... But was taking up room in a Shed they never used, so they sold Everything and if I remember correctly, only got a Few Grand for it... like 2 or 3 grand and I paid 1500 for Rolling Chassis and most of the stuff besides the engine/trans, paint/primmer, steering wheel, quarters and all the Free Kevlar was already included. I use to work at a Chrome Bumper Plant where we would Strip/Sand/Sand Blast Cleaned and Prep Bumpers to be Chromed/Restored or even High End Painted ( $1000 Per Gallon Primer ), along with any parts you wanted Chromed/Restored. Could Order any Body Part of Any Car you wanted. I Could of Chromed my Whole Camaro for Free if I wanted to.. Since Employees were allowed to Chrome Any Part For Free...

I will be watching faithfully. Beautiful car and great job on the floors and body work. We have a 67 fastback mustang and we are going to look for a 67 convertible camaro but will be happy with any solid car so we can park the 67's together. Got to love old steel muscle cars. Of course the 67 fastback was sold as a family car. Lol.

You may be aware by now, but the shifter hole is likely original. They were cut with a torch by hand on the assembly line. Guy may have had a tad too much coffee that morning.

I spent 15 years looking for an original Le Mans Blue project car that was not rusty beyond repair with original engine & drive train. So it just takes persistent looking and digging. They are getting harder to find every year.

Hi mate, just started watching this and noticed your trans tunnel has been cut on side. My 69 Camaro trans tunnel has been butchered really bad, I have a new section to replace it with. Just need to cut out the bit on top for the Hurst shifter.

I'm glad I found your channel. I am into CBX's and 69 Z28s just like you are. I have a Rally Green 69 Z and a Silver 79 CBX that I bought new. My 69 Z28 is an early one assembled 12-5-1968 at the Los Angeles Plant and delivered to a Chevrolet dealership located within 5 miles of my home in San Antonio Texas. I was wondering if you found the build sheet anywhere on your car when you disassembled it? I've heard that the build sheets are rare to find on a Norwood car. I'm wondering if there might be a build sheet somewhere on my Z. I have a video up of my car too. Thanks

Hi Michael, Thank you for your comment. I hope subscribed so you can keep up on the Z/28 build. I just watched your video on your Z. Very Nice. I love Rally Green. So you must have chambered exhaust since its an early car. I have not found the build sheet. I am sure there never was one being a Norwood car. But I do have the original sales receipt and the NCRS report. :) I am so lucky to have found a pretty rust free project car in the color I have always wanted :) That is so cool that you still have your original CBX. I also bought them new and wish I still had the original 79 as I still have the original sales receipt.

@@digitalpizza1 Thanks, I did subscribe to your channel. My Z28 was sold originally with a flat hood and no spoiler. It was also originally equipped with the chambered exhaust. I have the benefit of knowing all the previous owners, and remember the car during the seventies till now. One of the owners changed the exhaust to headers with flowmaster mufflers. I plan on replacing that with the correct manifolds that came off the car, and adding a new Gardner chambered exhaust system. I'm looking forward to seeing that beautiful Lemans blue Z28 finished and back on the road again!

Oh hey I just remembered that I also have the same 6618 block in the garage too I think it’s a 350 but now I have to check today and if the numbers I want to see have been machined off.I inherited it when a buddy passed on.hey I like the sound of yours,is that the final motor combo or no?
@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 9 ай бұрын
Hi Barry, the engine that was in the car when I bought it, was a 350 which is what the car had in it when I pulled it up on the trailer in the video. I got the original DZ block with the car, which I am building to put back into the car as it was from the factory, but the DZ engine sounds very similar to what the car sounded like. Pulling it up on the trailer, except that the DZ has solid lifters. But dz engines sound very radical.

I had both a 67&68 SS 350 4 speed & L78 396 with wide ratio hi gear rear I absolutely loved em both.I was wondering if you know anything about the spec.’s for the torque converter on the auto version.I had Coan build me a converter but they only listed to half what I told them and after getting it I was medically down for some yrs so now I have to sell it and get the right one and I’m just trying to get all the info I can.I wanted a 9.5-10” but ended up with an 11” 2600-2800 rpm and behind a 500 hp 406 it’s a great converter but drives like grandma’s car,no slip at all with th-350 anyway I’m having a time finding info about it I have a small library but this point is eluding me and I need to find what mine can be used for.I envy you,I have a 72’Nova,wanna trade?lol

I’m looking at a 1969 Rally Sport Camaro. I’m trying to verify it’s a true Rally Sport but I’m not sure what should be on the trim tag. Anybody know? The ViN shows it is a V8 car and it has a 4sp. It has the proper back up lights and a headlight washer solenoid. Thanks
@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 2 жыл бұрын
I would remove the backup lights on the rear valance and make sure the holes are die cut from the factory rather than a crude saw cut. Check to see if the front fenders are actually RS fenders. All Rally Sports are X33 cars if from Norwood or have the bright trim option if an LA car. Check if all the headlight door mechanisms are in tact and original. If all that checks out, it’s probably a real RS
@wlc1980
@wlc1980 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, after a lot of reading last night I discovered that this is an early car and the trim Tag does not have an H section for I guess the body type. This would explain why I cannot find anything on the trim code to verify that it’s an RS. The interior is a 711 that matches and the paint number is 76 for Daytona yellow which I discovered under the black primer. The car has been parked for 30 years it ran when it was parked, I wish I could post pictures on KZfaq . I am going back one night this week to check everything, I guess there’s a vacuum hose near the master cylinder to look at and I will remove one of the backup lights like you suggested. It’s a friend of a friends who is selling it, it’s not listed, he wants $10,000 for it. It has the hood, the hideaway headlights and the spoiler along with the four-speed. The only visible rust is a couple of places under the black vinyl top. I think I can possibly get it started and drive it home not sure but I can always bring my trailer . Thank you so much I’m really loving your videos I wish your shop was closer to Atlanta I would come by and check out your cars. Thanks again!

@@wlc1980 Hi Tracy, you could email me pics if you want. my email is digitalpizza@comcast.net. Another RS item to check is the hole in the firewall for the vacuum tubes as you mentioned. It is a large hole, about 1" or so, to the upper left of the square hole where the brake booster/master cylinder is mounted. Is this a Z/28 or SS? Sounds like a good car and at a great price regardless whether its an RS or not. I would love to see the pics. Thanks Tracy. didn't the Z/28s come with a M22 close ratio transmission ? we called them "rock crushers " back in the day . just saying a 68 rear spoiler looks best on a 69 Camaro it's not original but its taller and fits neatly with the car

Hi Larry, you are correct in the sense that they are all extremely close and all have the same Paint I.D. of 976 (this is the code, not the trim tag i.d.), but the actual paint codes are different. Nassau & Le Mans are so close, its almost impossible to tell the difference. But Marina Blue is noticeably different. Marina is lighter more silvery, Le Mans is darker and richer.
