1969 Ford Mustang Wilwood Disc Brake Install | Disc Brake Conversion Ford Mustang
In this episode, Budget Build Garage performs a 1969 Ford Mustang Wilwood Disc Brake Install. This Ford Mustang disc brake conversion is exactly what the 1969 Mustang coupe built 302 needs to transform an aged and unreliable braking system to an aggressive, safe, and consistent braking system. The 1969 mustang coupe requires a v8 disc brake wilwood 4 lug setup. There’s arguably nothing better than a solid set of wilwood disc brakes, especially these Slotted/Drilled Rotor 4-Piston Caliper Wilwood Classic Series Dynalite Front Brake Kits 140-13476-D

Very nice kit. Gonna stop on a dime. Very good explanation about bigger factory OEM brakes being scarce for this build.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited to test them out. Sometimes you can find really nice factory parts for a decent price but sometimes you need to go with an aftermarket setup

I have always wanted to try wilwood brakes on one of my hot rods. I just found a thread on how to fit 2, 4, or 6, piston brakes from newer model chevys on gbodys (elco, caballero, malibu, tempest, gto, monte carlos....) Z06 brakes here we come!!

Nice video, been watching many of these conversions and upgrades today, yours one of the best and clearest! May do a drum to disc conversion on my 64 Ranchero, you show it is not rocket science but has do's and don'ts and tips. Shop will likely do it since I don't have a "my shop" anymore in my new house. You show it's a brief job, and not to get ripped for 15 hrs of Labor charge; of course I'll get estimate. Product looks nice too if I can get for my car type. Got nostalgic for my 70 Mustang (yours 69) which I sold about 5 year ago!!

My budget build on a 67 Cougar was to use Mustang Steve 05 Caliper adapter kit. Sourced the remainder parts as inexpensive as possible. Had the original hoses adapted to fit the Cougar's hard lines. The Cougar had power drums, so I already had the booster.I bought a disc brake master from the parts house for under $30. This package is way better performing than stock disc. It costs less than $500. One thing I like about the Wilwood, is that you can use 14" wheels. I have 17" Centerline MMMB/635 wheels, 17x8 front and 17x9 rear.

Hey Guys. Really enjoy the vids. Just a note on your install. I see on the Wilwood intsall video that they install the caliper on the front side of the rotor. Not sure if it matters, just thought I might point it out.

@@SA-xu1xi I ordered the Wilwood brake kit 140-13343 along with the line kit 220-12168, and Master cylinder 261-13272, I went through Cardwells who are a WW distributor. I went through them as they helped with ensuring i got the correct components and i thought it would make it easier with the freight. They were really good. Haven't fitted yet as only just arrived, but spoke to the certify today and he mentioned that the bolts supplied for the holding the plate on aren't compliant so need to get some different ones. One thing make sure they will fit within the wheels you have. I checked mine on a friends car who had a same sized set up. Fingers crossed it all works as planned Sounds like there are a few gotchas around the certification process Nothing major which an experienced Mechanic wouldn't know . We where going to look at doing ourselves but the cylinder part looks a bit tricky and we don't have the stores like the US who can make the lines for you, so now plan to take it to someone

Bought the exact brake kit you listed for my '68. The kit states that I need to drill and tap the spindle to 3/8-24 UNF for '68-69. Your video shows you using 4 bolts, washers and nuts to mount the caliper bracket to the spindle. Did you use the OEM spindle or did you purchase smaller bolts and nuts to avoid have to tap the spindle?
@francochannel5796

Hey man I ran into the same problem, did you end up getting smaller bolts or getting a different spindle?
@user-mc6rz9qq2n
@user-mc6rz9qq2n Жыл бұрын
For anyone finding this comment now, DON'T use smaller bolts. Follow the instructions, and either tap the original disc-brake spindle for 3/8 bolts, or use an original drum-brake spindle which already has 4 properly-sized holes.

Unless you're running the car in auto x, track or your car is close to 4,000 lbs... The 4 piston breaks work well, when set up properly. It all depends on budget.

I installed the same brakes on my 69 mustang, You have the caliper on the back side of the rotor, I installed mine the same because I watched your video. Now Welwood shows them installed forward of the rotor and all the other videos I watched show them on the front of the rotor. But most of the videos were 6 puck brakes, or a different year car. What is the correct way?? hope we have it correct. Rick
