I've made it my mission to not only find a 1968- 1972 Chevy Nova but also to restore it top to bottom. I don't think I could ever had predicted the crazy journey this quest would take me on: abandoned car lots, cars left in the woods for half a century, the ups and down... the madness. Join us now on this crazy journey to see what happens!
Do you know where this car is? Go to our website and let us know.

Man depending on price, I think you should’ve went for it. It wasn’t really that bad at all. I don’t think you are going to find one in better shape than that in your area, unless you’re ready to pay a pretty penny. Even in Texas, that would be considered a decently clean car to start with.

Yeah I know man. Trust me I went over it a thousand times in my mind but my gut still says no. Problem is it looks so damn good on camera I look like an idiot for passing it up but the fact is the car was full of bondo and repainted. It had been hidden quite well so it took a while to pickup on. So i had to imagine thr csr how it would look beofre all the "work" was done to it. It was "saved" 30 years ago when someone wanted to get a couple more years out of it and they did. Had it looked like this original everything it would be the perfect car. Hard one to pass for me trust me lost sleep over this one and most people will disagree with me on it. But I have to stick to my gut on this one as much as it hurts the ego. Thabks for your words you arnt wrong

You did the right thing. I know how you feel about letting John down. He understands he has been around for a few years. I had a 70 Nova wish I could find another one. Or better yet find my old one. I did go through every bolt in 1980 three transmissions till I put a m22 in it and a 350. Raced SIR ran 12.50 with tall ass gears. Loved that car. Good luck!

The 69-70 Nova was always my dream car back in the 80's when i was in H.S. I understand your decision to wait for a Nova that you can actually do minimal work to yourself, to make it your own. Keep up the good work, your videos are great because they are storytelling and professionally edited. Remember, good things come to those who wait!!

Thanks man I needed that I have been kind of down in the dumps. I know a lot of people will disagree with me and I'm just going to have to live with that. Doing simple math showed me I can buy a car with almost no rust for thr amount of money just the metal plus purchase of the car would cost (around 15k total). So if I can find something in the 8-10k range but needs things like quarter planels, trunk, floors, rockers and bodywork. I would be super happy with that. I will find the car just haven't found it yet.... thanks for the support

Oh trust me Johnny I was 95% certain I was coming home with a car. I sure as heck didn't expect what I got and it was a valuable lesson... I cannot tell you the value of seeing something in person. Thing is the idea of something being "in great shape" is totally personal and different for everyone. Just so happens the fella who owns the car is much more experience than I am so this car for me was past my capabilities. So It was hard to so no and I knew a lot of people would be mad (which they were trust me I heard about it) but I had to be honest. Rather than being driven by ego I had to choose reason even if it "pissed some people off" in the process. ..

@@SubdivisionAuto Well they are just wrong and weren't paying attention. I was thinking how fortunate you were to have your expert advisor/influencer along. Your were genuinely disappointed as was I. ...the search continues. With a wise reset.

Thank you glad you liked it. Fear of the unknown has made me deviate from time to time but never to the point I'd make a decision I'd regret. I know my skill level and I think setting me self up for success is important. If I go for something far beyond my skills I'm really shooting my self in the foot. Not that it can't be done it'll just take too much time I want to drive this thing in about 2-3 years. If I get a complete car I know where everything goes and I'll have the vast majority of what I need to complete the car. One day I may do something insane but not the project it's still a massive project for me. Thanks for watching a lot more coming with this

You are correct in that a 70 has larger clear lensed parking lights. Those clear lens rectangular lenses were only used on 68-69 Acadians. Looks like that bumper and grille are from a 69 Acadian. 68-69 Novas used rectangular amber lenses. Hope you find a good one to work on. I’ve owned my 68 SS since 1977. I paid $150 for back then. My Dad and I did an amateur restoration on it at that point. Back in the early 2000’s I decided to do a full restoration and pulled the sun frame and totally redid it. It looks like a brand new car still today. They can be frustrating to work on sometimes but the end result is worth it.
@SubdivisionAuto
@SubdivisionAuto Жыл бұрын
Very cool man thanks for the insight. Yeah shortly after this I learned the entire front end was off an acadian. Along with that the whole car had been covered in bonds including the rockers, quarters and parts of the doors. They then painter the whole car and inside of the engine bat. So if they changed so much on the front and did that much work you can imagine what it looked like. So someone had tried to "save it" probably in the 90s or 80s even. They certainly got some life out of it but it was in no way original like I thought. Just one of those lessons of "don't trust the pictures". The owner was very honest with me he didn't even know. If the car looked like this without all this work being done it would have been a gem. But that said it can be saved like I said I'm the video its just not going to be done by me. Thanks for this great comment love hearing the insight.

A lot of the stuff you mentioned you can do. It's intimidating at first. But I'm proof it can be done. I've done rails, floors, firewall etc all in my garage without those tools. Sometimes you just need someone to help you a long for a bit. To find what you're looking for up here, I think you're going to be hard pressed. Not many like that in Canada... You should expand your search to the USA..
@SubdivisionAuto
@SubdivisionAuto Жыл бұрын
Yeah 100%. It just doesn't seem like there is anything out there that doesn't need new frame rails. So even after this was filmed I have been considered getting one and doing the frame rails as well. Or I may go to thr states not sure yet I still have a couple options here to see before I make a decision. Regardless like you said you just have to start working and developing the confidence.

I cant tell you how much I appreciate this... this is well beyond what anyone has been willing to do for this crazy jounrey.... If you do get to get try to get pictures of the inner structure if possible (Unless its all covered in upholstery). Firewall, underneath were the frame rails are (use flash if you can it shows a LOT). Rear diff area. I know quarters will for sure need replacing they all do. Its more im curious what the condition underneath is... whether the transmission tunnel is solid or the entire bottom needs replacing. Also details like is it manual, picture of the rear diff. Thank you so much for this man!

Don't feel like you've let your subscribers down. Much as i hate to say it you're being realistic. If you don't have the equipment to do everything needed or the know how to do it without the tools you'd probably be taking on more than you can handle. Don't let it get to you. You'll find what you're looking for that's the right fit for you! I'd hate to see you jump into a project that would overwhelm you and make you give up the dream.

I just came across this video. I would have passed on this car as well. Too much work to do that you can see up front. Once you stripped it down, who knows what you’ll find. Those quarters on the car don’t look right either. I have a 70 Nova in original condition with all its original sheet metal and my side marker lights are not that far forward. It looks like someone installed 73-74 quarters on that car. I’m not too familiar with Canadian Novas, so I can’t attest to the grille, headlight bezels and front bumper, but for a US Nova, none of those parts are correct.
@SubdivisionAuto
@SubdivisionAuto 6 ай бұрын
Im happy to hear this comment to be honest because I know a lot of people didnt agree with me... But this is one of those cars that looks nice but would be a lot of work. The camera really doesnt do justice how bad the metal was but in my mind if your frame rails are done likely every single piece of sheet metal is done too. Not that this cant be done its just a huge job for a guy like me and at the same time it would be around near 15k just in metal and cost of the car before any work is done. Just doesnt make sense to me. Anwyays I did find a car and if you check out the video on this channel Its part 6 of this series, youll see why waiting was the best thing I ever did. Dont get me wrong the car I got has some other issues but overall it doestn need all new metal. Canadian cars are brutal the salt just eats them up. One of thing about this Nova is it has a lot more history than we see. You are correct, things dont look right because a lot has been changed. I later discovered it has Acadian grille, bezels and some other pieces. The car was also re-painted so you have to image how it looked BEFORE all that was done. One thing gave it away and it was the firewall. if the firewall is that bad it means the rest of the car was pretty bad too. Its easy to hide stuff with spray paint and bondo but when you strip it all down it can be crushing. Check out the car we found and let me know what you think. Thanks for dropping in nice to hear your comment
@ejscarfo19

@@SubdivisionAuto I thought it might have been an Acadian grill as the bumper definitely was from one with the smaller lights. I’m in NY on the coast and it’s no better here for classics. It took me over two years to find my Nova and while not perfect, definitely better than any local car I found. I’ve started watching the new vids with the 72, nice score. Looks like it might have been Rally Nova at birth.
