Whenever I would ask her, my Mother would speak in such a revelatory manner about the 1970s having been the GREATEST era of her life. She expressed that the seventies were her happiest years because life was good, simple, joyous, and the cost of living was low. Life was therefore conducive to a peaceful, calm, and refreshing life of very little stress. My Mother died earlier this year. I am so profoundly grateful that she got to experience a decade that had for the rest of her life, meant so much to her!

Mousse wasn't used until the 1980's. In the 70's, they used a "setting lotion" like V05 or Dippidy Doo. I remember when mousse became a thing, and I was already in middle school, so at least 1983.

I was in high school and college in the seventies. Everyone had Pot O Gloss lip gloss. Everyone had a Bonne Bell Lip Smacker. Bonne Bell also had the best gel blush. Love Cosmetics and Yardley were the rage. Hair care involved these shampoos: Protein 21, Milk Plus 6, Flex, Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific, Brightside, and eventually Herbal Essence. That took off and dominated. Balsam was a key hair ingredient and there were many balsam conditioners. Then Vidal Sassoon came along at the end of the decade with its chocolate colored bottles and almond scent Everyone had the Cover Girl Clean foundation. Revlon Blush On was another favorite. We all loved the Coty compacts of solid scents. There were flowers, Woods, grasses, etc. Everyone had the Jergens cherry scented lotion. You washed your face with Noxzema or the clear amber Neutrogena soaps. Bonne Bell had Ten O Six lotion we used as astringent. Musk Oil was also a popular scent.

Dippity Dew was a setting lotion for wet sets, not for perms. My mom used it and I can still remember the scent. One reason Skin So Soft was really popular is because it naturally repelled mosquitos. Great video. I had those Kissing Potion lipglosses in 5th grade and my dad was worried I wanted to kiss boys. 🤣 Silly dad because make up, at least for me, was about feeling grown uop not getting the attention of boys!

Thank you Laura for a great video! I’m a seventy year old retired nurse and I remember using Yardley slickers and Max Factor’s lipsticks in Mango Meringue and Pinkberry Meringue. The Max Factor lipsticks were highly frosted and opaque with just a hint of color. I remember my dad telling me that it looked like I had Crisco all over my mouth!Lol. Coty Airspun loose powder was all I wore on my face, to this day I don’t like the heavy feel of liquid foundation. But I would use Cover Girl Clean Girl liquid makeup which had Noxzema ingredients in it and it smelled like Noxzema also for concealer whenever I needed to cover a blemish. Also Coty perfumes in Laimont, Emeraude and L’Origon perfumes were very popular. Faberge had some strong, woodsy fragrances, one that I remember wearing was Tigress. We also work Musk oil til I found our it came from a shark glands. Yardley of London had many light fragrances Eau de London was my favorite in 60’s and 70’s. Also don’t forget good old Jean Nate! Everyone used it back in the day. I had a huge 32 ounce bottle on top of my dresser throughout the early seventies. I’ve been a makeup and skincare fanatic since I was a teen and still am and I am now seventy! Thank you so much fipor some precious memories, dear Laura, so glad I subscribed to your channel!🥰

Another fabulous video. I was surprised Clairol Herbal Essence shampoo was overlooked - it was so popular and revolutionary - and the inclusion of Dippity Do, which I think of as a mid to late 60s pre blow hair dryer and hot roller trends. Another trend of the 70s was Musk as a fragrance component and ‘natural’ beauty products like henna. Thank you for including Avon! My mom worked there as a marketing exec in the mid 70s at their headquarters - 9 W 57 St.

Wonderful job, Laura. I used Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers in bubblegum pink and the Maybelline Kissing Potion gloss, I think, in cola. I used blue eyeshadow and Covergirl mascara. Something else, not really related to makeup, is many elementary school girls and teenagers in the lower mainland of BC carried small wet combs in their back right pocket. I was a teenager in the 70's. I used dippity-do hair gel and large plastic rollers to curl my hair and slept in them all night to get a beautiful flip. I had brown, green, purple and blue powder eyeshadow with matching Crayon eyeliner. Black mascara and thin penciled eyebrows. I used powder and blush on my face though some girls used Cover Girl clean makeup. My lipstick was all different colors. Girls mostly wore dresses or shirts but we did wear bell bottom pants. No bras. I would tan myself using baby oil with iodine in it. I loved Avon perfume, Sweet Honesty is one I remember. I remember in my late teens I sold Sarah Coventry jewelry. Still have some. The '70s were a great era that I am glad to have lived through. You totally left out the shag haircut, which was huge in the early-to-mid '70's! It was a true shag, not like today's wimpy versions that hardly have any layers. I had the shag and then later the Farrah hairstyle. I also was often told I looked like Cher, so I played that up too. What a fun video! I was born in 1970, and remember so many of these. My mom was a registered nurse and a makeup lover. She even sold Avon in around 1978. Roses, Roses was my favorite perfume from them, but I know many people think it’s way too strong. I would watch mom getting ready for work, and putting on her makeup and false lashes. She was so glamorous in my mind! Watching Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman on tv was a weekly ritual for me, the hair was so fluffy and perfectly curled or straight and natural. One of my favorite things from back then I would always get in my stocking for Christmas: a multi-pack of scented lipgloss in a metal container with a sliding top to open. The company Tinte Cosmetics have brought them back, and they are still wonderful. The other thing I remember was -all- ladies seemed to use and love Jean Nate bodysplash. It smells fresh and lemony and instantly takes me back to that time.

All the ladies wore Avon face creams too in beautiful glass jars.

What a beautiful walk down memory Lane, Laura! I was 11 in 1971. My mother was a hairdresser. I learned to layer my hair from her before she passed on. I had my first Farrah do at 13. Loved it! You portrayed it as it really was, a wonderful time to be alive, especially in California! I had a lot of challenges but I wouldn't trade them for the experience! We had so much freedom! I miss that, I feel our country has backslid in so many ways! Blessings!

My son saw a photo of me at the beach , in my bikini, when I was 16-17. He was amazed that I had abs! Mandatory PE and hardly any junk food! I’m 65 now so the photo was from 1974 probably.

Nope it was advertising. These are all magazine images. It doesn’t show real life today and certainly didn’t back then. Although it’s true that corn syrup wasn’t ubiquitous, and that helped, there were still plenty of overweight people. Particularly true with heavy drinkers, and heavy drinking was much more common.

Pink frost lip gloss maybelline and cover girl mascara..we had bonne bell gel blush.clearasil of course! Boho was in. The flap over leather bag with engraving of flowers was popular and anything flower girl hippy look. God bless!

I grew up in Miami and graduated from HS in 1979. The disco look was more popular with Cuban Americans, while my group definitely favored the natural look. I loved chewing peppermint gum and wearing Dr. Pepper Bonnebell lip smacker. I wore navy blue Maybelline mascara. My two favorite perfumes were Love’s Baby Soft and Jean Nate’. My friend’s sophisticated mother wore ‘Charlie’ cologne, stylish slacks and blouses, and wrap dresses. She looked just like Ingrid Bergman.

I made a quick list before from childhood memory to see which ones you said - and I missed a lot you had but the only things I had down that you didn't mention (maybe they are 60s things or maybe they were only a teenage thing?) is: giant combs people carried around in their back pockets, (Edit: Bonne Bell lip smackers), and that orange lipstick in the white tube that had a lovely smell. Fun walk down memory lane!

I was a child in the 70s and can vividly remember how huge Avon was in rural Australia. It was the only way many women could access a wide variety of beauty and bath products. Every Christmas, I got a doll bubble bath in either lavender or rose scents. If I was lucky, I'd get a small bottle of perfume as well. I still recall the lip smackers of the late 70s. Everyone had one.

I grew up in the 70s so I was on my twenties in the 90s. My boyfriend went into the Marines. They has a list of things you need to bring with you and skin so soft was on it. Apparently they train in a sandy beachy area and the sand fleas would eat you up, unless you used skin so soft.
