Tommy Hawkins Film Collection

FUNDRAISER: www.gofundme.com/f/filmfundra... Please help us to continue transferring these rare 16mm film reels that cost us anywhere from $275 to $350 per reel depending on the size of the film reel. We use Yale Video and Transfer in Valencia, CA to transfer our footage. Ironically, Yale Video is that same company that shot this footage over 5-decades ago. With nearly 1000 16mm film reels in our collection from 1969 to 1973, it's imperative that we get as much financial help as possible to continue posting newly transferred content on the Tommy Hawkins KZfaq channel.
Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated! We thank you in advance for your support!

Amazing how these 1970-71 Bruins’ comments are strikingly similar to the 2022-23 Bruins’ players’ comments after games!

Sometimes there is not much difference to winning a national championship and finishing at Sweet 16. UCLA championship teams did not falter at the crucial end. Have to learn to finish. This dynasty was incredible. They did not break in crucial situations. I think it’s due to great conditioning that John Wooden emphasized but UCLA had a big man that was so critical. Great rebounding which has cost teams in this decade Games. Outrebounded.

Wooden watched the Harlem Rens play. His teams were influenced by that. The speed of his guards was what he emphasized. But playing in the West was advantageous as well as the combo of JD Morgan and Wooden.

Can't believe that is Bill looking more like a projector-pushing AV geek than the counter culture lover we always have known him to be!

Tommy Hawkins can interview as good or better than any sportscaster. It's just very pleasant and informative.

Fantastic Footage from one of the great LA Sports Broadcasters of any era...Silky Smooth Tommy Hawkins. I'm a huge Bruins Fan and had the privilege of attending Coach Wooden's Basketball Camps (at Cal Lutheran College - Thousand Oaks) where many players would come and speak to the campers. Tommy knows how to interview and the player's responses reflect the quality of the UCLA Basketball Program under Coach Wooden (who only had 3 years with these players due to Freshman ineligibility).

They're talking here about the game vs Ohio State at Pauley ... Walton made THE most incredible block I've ever seen ... He literally picked Alan Hornyak's 15-foot shot out the air with both hands just before it reached its peak ... I grew up playing against Pete Trgovich in elementary and high school ... When he was a H.S. school freshman, he didn't even start ... just a skinny kid sitting on the end of the bench ... This bunch was THE most charismatic college team I've ever seen.

@@douglascarlson9006 I remember Trgovich, Bridgeman, Stoddard, Adell, Bailey etc. as the best high school team ever. In the state Final 4 semis, they beat the Cinderella team where my mother was a teacher. We were disappointed, but I became a fan of those Senators for life. (Oh well, I was a fan of Bridgeman but not Trgovich one Saturday in San Diego in '75, but other than that awful memory, I've loved them all).

@@douglascarlson9006 I'm from Southern Indiana, right across the Ohio River from Louisville. I'm sort of a hybrid Hoosier/Louisvillian. I attended Indiana University Southeast in New Albany. My parents met while attending the University of Louisville, so that campus is in my blood. During the heyday of college basketball (the '70s through the early 2000s) I rooted for U of L, IU and UK, whoever was up for an NCAA crown.

@@brianarbenz7206 I'm 70 Brian ... my first year as a student in Bloomington was Knight's second year as coach ... I believe the golden age of college BB started with Alcindor's photo on the SI '66 college basketball preview and ended with Magic coming out early in '79, which eventually led to "one-and-done" ... OMG have we ever seen some awesome games! ... two of my most vivid memories actually occurred in '73 in the same game ... Digger Phelps brought ND into Bloom to play IU ... that was the year ND got Shumate and Dantley ... we were sitting under ND's basket when thy came out to warm up and OMG you should have seen the legs on Adrian Dantley up close - they looked like tree trunks! ... ND beat IU in one of the most intense games I have ever seen ... with about 20s left, ND has a kid named Billy Paterno go to the FT line ... the pressure down on the floor was so intense that he was actually crying as the rep handed him the ball to shoot those two FTs ... and an incredible athlete for L'ville back then was Darrel Griffith ... remember him?
