I think this video is from 1972, Walton's first year on the varsity, and Henry Bibby is playing, and he graduated in '72. In 1971, Walton's freshman year, freshmen weren't yet eligible to play on the varsity.

So interesting to see the unglamorous rudiments of the great dynasty. I really like these videos.

The picture and audio qualities makes viewing these films just like attending a game. Without a broadcaster voice, but with the natural crowd reactions loud and clear it is almost like being in the stands.

Blair led by future UCLA srtandouts James McCallister and Kermit Johnson. Anat led by future USC stars Pat Haden and JK McKay.
@mtsky-tc6uwАй бұрын
but in this game Haden went crazy--almost every play was a broken play but in spite of being sacked 6 times,intercepted 3 times he still scored--Blair was led on defense by #74,Erickson, who had 3 sacks,plus 5 personal tackles,plus 5 to 8 assisted tackles--offense wins games,defense wins championships-McCallister had broken his ankle,damn near useless-RIP James...

Ohio State before the Minnesota 50-44 fiasco... UCLA was unbeatable at this point.

I remember that UCLA was considered the number 1 team in the nation and they were undefeated, and on the night before, they also played USC at USC and that game went to triple overtime until UCLA won. Then they played one night later and lost the first time that season.

Interesting hearing particular fans shout. It's like I'm at the game. And they love Ernie D'Gregorio's moves. Ernie D gained some new fans in L.A.

I grew up in Indiana and Kentucky and loved the ABA, but seeing a game minus either the Colonels or Pacers is new to me. It's cool to see how the league I loved was doing far away. The Stars shortly moved to Utah, and it looks like a sparse crowd there at the Sports Arena, but an enthusiastic one.

Even the greatest boxer can be surprised if too confident. Ali learned that lesson when Frazier surprised him with that left hook. Later, Ali came back and defeated Frazier in all the next rematch fights. Admiration and respect to Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all times.

Ali was too confident before the first fight with Joe Frazier. That's why he was surprised by that left hook and lost the fight with Frazier by decision. Then, Ali trained better and won the rematch fights.

Great Footage - Thanks for getting this out there. any chance of getting the 2nd half ?
@TommyHawkinsFilmCollection5 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if I have it. All the film footage you see on the Hawkins channel was retrieved from the dumpster over 5-decades ago by Tommy Hawkins after NBC trashed them. Tommy saw historical value in the footage and got permission from NBC's GM that he could keep whatever he dug out the trash bin.. More than likely, the second half of this game is lost forever... Ok , Thanks again , I remember this game and was looking for the score on the East coast the following day. I was disappointed that the score got out of hand , but was told it was close till late in the game .Barnes was not afraid of Walton , like so many other pretty good centers . Providence had weapons and Ernie D. was going to break any press thrown at him. I so wish this would have been the Title Game in '73. Memphis was not going to beat the Bruins . Any chance you have the UCLA vs Villanova Game in 1971 ? That was the Howard Porter vs Sidney Wicks matchup. I aaprciate thae work tha you did to get this out - Thanks again @@TommyHawkinsFilmCollection
