The Datsun 610 was known in Japan as the Bluebird. There was a long history in the numberins sequence, 410, 510, and now 610. This model was sold in the USA from 1973 thru 1977 model years.

This was my first car! 1973 Datsun 610 Manual 4-speed. Loved this car! My dad bought it used in 1979 for my 16th birthday and drove it for 5 years. Great memories.

The car may not be that great but I love this commercial. Just so darn simple! A simple message conveyed by a no-nonsense actor, there's the product, add a little background music (optional), and boom - we're done! Didn't even seem like 30 seconds.

It was an oddball like the Ford Capri Mustang look alike. But much better mechanically and larger inside. Drove by a SoCal dealer one day in '73 and saw a new deep burgundy colored 2 door with a nice set of chrome mag wheels and white interior. Took it home after some serious haggling over price. 25+ MPG, comfortable seats for my 6'1" frame and 150 HP, which was pretty good for an econobox that performed well on the road in 73. Never regretted owning that car.

Had a 610 auto trans with the T Handle. You could not kill that engine. Loved everything about it. Wish I had it today.

I had a $1000.00 10.5 to 1 engine built for mine in 1975 by a Datsun dealer who raced IMSA at the time. It did 13 second 1/4 miles... and got 40 mpg.

A hot rod economy car. An idea... whose time has come!

Very rare and desirable here in Aus. We called them, Datsun SSS.
Sad that it wasn’t like the original 510 it didn’t have the same magic as the 510

I'm not sure it's "sad" and not sure what you mean by magic, the early 510's were fantastic alternatives to the BMW 2002. Not all cars can be sensations, they simply are cars and function as they are designed, to get from point A to point B. I had friends that bought a new 610 in 1975 and it was a good solid reliable car and nicely appointed. Sure, it wasn't a racer, but that's not what it was suppose to be. I own a few Nissans and would love to have one of these....(I'd really love a 510 from 1969, but they are getting out of my price range)

Um, tinted glass, carpeting LUXURY! Oh YEAH BABY. That new Mitsubishi is down right indulgence comapred to that 610! wowza LOL! OMG How could they say this with a straight face hahaha

I know, I was thinking the same thing....compared to say a Mercury Montego or Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme or Chevy Monte Carlo? How in the world did people fall for this?

OsbornTramain and that actor is probably 4'8' tall. LOL.

@@OsbornTramain Nobody did. How many 1973 610 coupes have you ever seen in your life? I've seen ONE in real life, and that was 20 years ago, in California. I actually like them but could never find one for sale. The fact that these cost about the same as a Cutlass or a base Buick Skylark (which were far more luxurious in the traditional sense than anything Nissan ever sold in the USA back then) pretty much guaranteed low sales. The sedans and wagons sold a bit better, but still, they likely sold 10 210s for every 610. The fact that the original 510 was sold alongside this in 1973 also tanked sales.

Lovers of the 510 felt absolutely betrayed when they trotted out this garbage, probably why they renamed the company Nissan because they knew Datsun was finished

😂😂😂😂 yeah ok. Give me all the 610s then. prefer those than the 510 honestly
