I own a 1975 and really like it. People can say what they want about it "good or bad , but there's something to be said about a car from 1975 that's still around today (2020) that I'm still driving..... after owning one , I plan on keeping it.

They are still very cool cars and to your point they are still around after getting a bad reputation with quality. Thanks for watching!

I have two of them a 74 4 speed#753 and a 75 #2116 . After you work out a few bugs and update the cooling system they are great cars. They draw more attention than almost any other car.

I wish there could be a comeback for cars like the bricklin and delorean, I really wish sometime in the near future someone would revamp the sv1 with more modern features

Nice seeing the old Burbank Fry’s again. I used to shop there. You’ll see a Countach on the street before you’ll see a Bricklin. I’ve always been fascinated by them, but being 6’ 3” it wouldn’t work for me. You’ve done an outstanding job showing it.

Can't really be critical, but the review was comprehensive and gave us a truly independant review where apart from the looks (as it does look a bit "home made"), but seems to drive well Thanks for the review!

I have never seen a car before or since the Bricklin that can pull off the hat trick that only the Bricklin SV-1 can manage. This is a car that was built in 1974. This car came way before the Delorean, and it made the Delorean look like a woman trying to hike her dress up, very unflattering from the front! I am watching this video in 2022, I was 15 when the car hit the market in 1974. The care was carried by Woodson Pontiac of Roanoke VA, and they also debuted the Delorean in the mid 1980's. Malcome Bricklin was very committed on producing a performance sports car, that could share accolades with the Corvette, and impact a solid brick wall at 70 MPH! And the driver would be able to walk away from the car without injury, and NO AIRBAG, restrained by only the car's 3 point shoulder and lap belt. A feet one of the pre-production vehicles actually pulled off! There was no astray, or cigarette lighter in the vehicle, as Mr. Bricklin considered smoking in a vehicle a fire hazard, unsafe, a distraction, and of course unhealthy. That would be a real thorn in the car's future back in the day, especially in the tobacco states, and Ford Motor Corporation had already debuted the 1972 - 1973 Tareyton Mach 1 Mustang. I kid you not, but I think it was a giveaway promotion of a car by the cigarette company. While not all the rage that they have become today, power windows were not an option at any price! Why, well if the vehicle went turtle, or went for a swim. Manual old fashioned crank windows would guarantee the occupants could exit the car if the gull wing doors became inoperative. Or failed to function after hitting a brick wall at 70 MPH! Finally, the car would be the star vehicle for the 1977 horror movie, that I strongly recommend you watch if you have not seen it! The motion picture was called, "Demon Seed," and Ewe, Weeeee, it was very, very, very, um, uh, hmmmm, lets see, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft was 16 or 17 at the time I do believe, apples still grew on trees, and A.I., was all WTF, decades before WTF, became a thing! One could say the movie was an inspiration to Mr. Gates, dunno, everything in the movie was not supposed to be until the next century, and nobody was going to live that long, not even me! And here we are, tahhh Dahhhhh! With the Bricklin still pulling off its 1974 Hat trick two years shy of a HALF A CENTURY LATER! You can say what you want folks! Time Is irrelevant, does not exist, has no presence, no influence, no governance in the shadow of a vehicle that is incapable of telling time! It was the next century in the 20th century, and it is next century in the 21st century, It is a shame in the 25th century all we may know of its existence will be in a photograph. A pristine example will not exist parked somewhere screaming in 2622 I will still look awesome in 3535! Course A.I. will have probably contained the threat by then, humankind will exist virtually on a chip of martin silicate 1/100th the size of a fly's eye and all earth will be doing is rotating in the sound of absolute silence and the sun wondering WTF, who shut them up!

I had an orange '74 automatic and love it. The AMC V8 has 220 hp. 2906 cars were built. The color of the interior of the car you're driving is wrong. Should be brown and not orange. The Bricklin is a cool car that can be updated. The problems of the car are fixable. Cooler car than a Corvette or the copycat DeLorean.

@@jackmorrison8269 they used as many readily available parts as they could to reduce development time and costs. yes it was beyond the tech of the day, they were the largest vacuum formed panels at the time, the resin chemistry of the era was not what it is today nor was the adhesive tech. fit and finish was improving but the general industry wide fit and finish was pretty bad at the time

Ok. Someone commented if the car was crashed, that was it. Not so. Many Bricklins were crashed and because of their strength, were rebuilt. The car had many improvements AFTER the factory closed due to its many fans. It was the most underrated car ever made.

Thanks Drive Steady for posting this 74' Bricklin! I've always thought of them as I owned a 74' Javelin/AMX with a 401. That was one of my favorite cars. I'm confident after seeing this I would love an AMC powered 4-spd Bricklin and would compete it for sure. I'm imagining mine with an Aluminum Indy 500 CI AMC block or just doing a 6.2L Hellcat swap and adding some Brembo or Willwoods. Maybe add some 4.44 gears in the AMC 20 with Moser Axles.

Love your presentation (are you related to Christopher Walken?) :-) Hearing about the car from you has rekindled my love for a car my Father fell in love with. The Scottsdale, Arizona PD used a couple as Interceptors but the bad guys always got away before the doors could open! I'm thinking of hoarding all the remaining SV-1s

It's a beautiful car. Too bad it has to be junk. It looks a lot like the Delorean, but came with a front mounted V8 engine and 5 lug wheels. I wonder who designed it. I'm sure it wasn't Malcom Bricklin. Looks like an Italian design to me. I have owned a 1976 Corvette for more than 25 years. I definitely wouldn't call it a sports car. I think of it more as a cruiser. It has a carbureted 350 crate engine and TH350 automatic transmission in it. It has A/C, power steering and power brakes. It had cruise control, but it didn't work, and I couldn't find parts to fix it. My understanding is that Malcom Bricklin was somewhat of a con man, much like Floyd Clymer. His only interest was making money. He likely cut his losses and took off. BTW, it was Malcom Bricklin that imported the Yugo into the U.S.

The tax payers of New Brunswick spent $23 million subsidizing the Bricklin. Divided by 3,000 cars produced and New Brunswick spent about $7,500 for every car Bricklin produced.

Actually, the Bricklin was a badly designed vehicle. The reason the doors had to be refitted was because they would crack the paint job every time you closed the doors. Malcolm Bricklin was a rip off artist.
