In this episode I’ll be rebuilding the carburetors. Complete tear down of all parts, cleaning procedure, including all the throttle linkage and slide armatures, and reassembly procedure along with directions on how to bench synchronize the carburetors after reassembly.
I’ll also show several different tips I’ve learned over the years on how to clean old gas deposits and grime from carburetors.

I have binge watched the Five episodes on the 550 , great work . I picked up a bit of " Derek " inspired comment and saw the VG shirt , I am a fan there too . I admire your attention to detail .

nice job and everything looks great except your 1 and 3 float bowls should be swapped so the drain screw is pointing outside

Great job! I'm currently experiencing gas coming out the overflow on carb 3 of my 1975 Cb550 when the engine is off and gas is in on position, pulled the bowl and the float is moving fine. Dont know what to check next. I'm wary of removing the carbs from the bike just yet. love all your videos, keep em coming.

Thanks John, and thanks for watching 💪💪. I’ve had the same issue you described. Make sure you turn off the petcock when parked, if an intake valve is open, gas can get in the oil and mess her up. There’s a few things you could try: check float height (22 mm), clean float valve seat, replace the float valve and seat (comes in a rebuild kit $25). Hope that helps👍🏻

@@lylesgarage yes, I learned quickly to shut off the gas as soon as the engine is off. I did have gas in my oil when I did the oil change after getting the bike this past october.

@@lylesgarage float height can only be done with the carbs off, correct? So that will be done when the carbs are removed.

@@johnwdavisjr unfortunately they would have to be removed💩. Although, you could just check the spark plug on #3 and see how it’s running, if it’s not looking rich and looks the same as the #1,2,4, you could probably put it off for a bit 😂.
