I dont think anyone today realises how good Gregg was in Europe. With the right machinery and luck he could have one many world championships. He was very talented and also a nice guy.

Awesome video. All the top Aussie and Kiwi riders of the day when they were at the top of their form. Greg Hansford didn't go down very often, so seeing him lose it the way he did was a pretty rare thing. Warren Willing turned it a great ride, as did Sayle and Woodley (on a production RG500).

Great video. I was racing at this meeting and remember speaking with Greg Hansford after his fall. He hurt his hand in the crash. you can see him holding it as he gets up.

Remember these blokes like yesterday . That was nearly half a century ago .

The Armco and the kerbs! The Armco particularly lethal. So many riders killed, including Ron Roomba, and injured. Gregg Hansford hitting that kerb must have hurt.

I once set two records at Sandown. I was part of a team of about a couple of 1000 people who made the longest line of coins on the ground, and as they were Australian $1 coins in the late 80's it was the most money on the ground as well. Lapped the course about 6 times. The Guiness guy walked it with a plastic trundle wheel. Then we cleaned it up and the money went back to the Commonwealth Bank guys with the pump action shotguns. The record stood for nearly 3 months I think.
