I said I wasn't gonna do a build series on this bike but here I am again. The difference being that this is meant to be a true budget build. I just wanna fix the vast amount of problems this bike has already. It runs drives and stops...It just doesnt do any of those particularly well yet!

That CBR front end looks Bad Ass! The engine? Basically follow what you did on the Air Head BMW. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Valve adjustment is easy. Compression test. Adjust the cam chain tensioner. New plugs. Fix the oil leaks. Fix the clutch. What ever else. Avoid dipping deep into the engine. Carbs? You decide. Call it a day. I'm loving this build! Keep up the good work!

BMW build up... "Not gonna lie, this M-Unit wiring job is kind of daunting" CB build up... "I can't wait to get rid of all this spaghetti..." Told you wiring would get under your skin, become something you looked forward to Do the rear end; suspension-wheels-brakes, finalize wheel selection based on those parameters, front and rear... if it was my build. (been watching you for years now. Love seeing your progression in bikes... and, over all, your content is pretty damned slick sir)

Damn dude. I am so jealous of you. Here in germany literally any of the jobs you did except the brake rebuild would make the bike illegal on the streets. I literally got stopped last week because my license plate was at an angle the very friendly (not) policemen deemed to steep. (Original license plate holder btw. You would have to go to "TÜV" to make them approve of every single change you make and that is expensive as hell :/ I think I gotta move to another country after uni. I mean we got the autobahn but as a biker I don't care. Awesome job as always was fun to watch Oh yeah and while you are at it you could give painting a shot. I painted a gas tank in black with white stripes in my garage and it was hella fun and came out really good. I mean the ratted out look is cool too so decide as you wanna

The best channel on youtube. I just wish you could upload more, there is no amount of content you could post on here that i wouldn't watch every minute of. There's something magical about how you make this all work with so little, you have such a genuine vibe about everything, I am not sure why you don't have 10X more subs and views.... enough of that, and to my humble suggestions. I think the modern front end was a terrific ideal considering you want this bike to stop (critical in NYC traffic!) but the look just works with the rim, rotors, and breaks. I would do a conversion on the rear as well, ya, you might lose some nastalgia, but gain huge in function. The engine should come out and get rebuilt. Just freshen everything up, and this bike will run forever. Thanks for the content, really looking forward to the next episode.
@Theillestrator1050

Dude thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it and i'm glad you dig the content. Yeah you know the rear drum is actually really fun and it works about as good as any rear brake can work. The good thing is its easier to lock up for my slides I like to do! I plan to freshen up the engine with gaskets and stuff but also mainly do some headwork to accomodate the higher RPM range I run this thing at now.

Great project, love the use of a fireblade fork, i had a -08 cbr1000rr but rode it mostly on trackdays. I can tell you that you will be stopping really well with those brakes, drive safe. 👍 go with the spoked wheel in the front if the build budget will allow it. If it was me, get it back up to basic street legal functionality, and do whatever's needed to get a radial tire on the back. Then I would give it a shakedown ride on track or backroads just to see how it feels. Take notes, and let those notes determine what you'll do next. I know, not much of an answer. I would think shocks will be a limiting factor eventually though. It;s prolly a safe bet to keep an eye on used shocks on ebay. Hagon would be good, Marzocci shocks would give you +1000 swag points

my next step ? hmm, youre at the front and already did the brakes, engine would be next for me as well, but i would throw a nice set of shocks at it first while your at the topic of suspension upgrades. maybe afterwards work the the carb, then the rear wheel (wheel swap, cush hub, bearings) together with a different final drive and somewhere in between to complete things throw some steel braided lines, nice levers a nice clutch at it and as well as maybe a hydraulic conversion for the clutch finally, when youre super bored, start tuning the engine, carbs, cams, exhaust, porting, machining all that good stuff, but i expect to be at episode 117 by then. good stuff illest, keep it up
@Theillestrator1050

That's a solid plan but it got a little expensive towards the end lmao. I may still have my sv1000 braided lines....I have to check. This front end has provisions for a hydro clutch but I gotta be cheap where I can. Definitely gonna rebuild the engine and tune it up a little.

My next step, honestly my first step, would be to swap those stacks for pods. Even cheap amazon pods. Anything but stacks for the street. Granted, my custom motorized bicycle I've got doesn't currently have an air filter, but a full top end rebuild costs less then 3 medium pizzas on that thing. (not even joking its legit like 25$) Plus, might also solve your issue running lean. Or at least help with it.

Good work man It's a Honda and it's a budget build so I relate with this better than the BMW K bike build series. Half of that flew over my head. Will you m.unit?

On my GS 500 I just cut a slot in the inner race with an angle grinder and a thin cutting disk (doesn't need to go all the way through, just shy of it) and hit that slot with a chisel. The race is so hard it just kinda explodes.

That sounds pretty easy but I don't have a Dremel and cut off wheel anymore

@@Theillestrator1050 It's doesen't have to be a Dremel just a normal sized angle grinder. Flex as we like to call it in germany xD Anyway it's off ;)

I'm loving the build! I just have one question...Could you do the same stem/bearing conversion on a CB 750?

Can't wait to see you re-do the wiring! Backyard building an XS650 with maybe less than even you have to work with..Planning to use your vinegar trick on the tank next week! Did you seal the tank with anything or just throw gas in there. How has it held up?

I didn't seal the tank but since the bike was regularly used and filled with gas its holding up fine!
