Unless you are not showing us all of the Googling or searching on the wiring diagram for this bike, you are great at troubleshooting! I have done this before and it is such a time killer. But, you really did your diligence on sticking with it. Well done!

I owned a 1975 Honda 500/4...that's what they were sold as in Australia... when I was 17 hundreds of years ago.It was just 2 years old when I got it an I loved that bike. A stupid car driver wanting both lanes wrote me off on way to work one morning in 1978 and in 2020 I still miss that bike,I was very badly injured but still ride today.Cheers from Australia mate. So, wow. Okay. I have to admit I haven't watched any videos for a long time, but covid let me finally catch up. Not sure if you remember... I found you through a friend because I also (used to) own a 86 BMW K100RT. I thoroughly loved that bike and it was a joy to own and ride, but just too damned finicky for a mild tinkerer like me. But I LOOOOOVE the direction you took yours. I just had very little-to no income even before covid hit, and couldn't even change bars. I eventually got so frustrated with my K that when the opportunity presented itself, I traded for a 2003 Suzuki SV1000S with a 2006 GSXR inverted fork conversion, and I cannot be happier. The guy wanted my K so bad he made a straight up trade, and in my area, the Suzuki SV bikes generally sell for much more than the K bikes do, plus he already had the fork conversion I was lusting after. It was kind of a no-brainer for me. Keep the awesome content coming. I finally landed a job (back up in Detroit), so as soon as that kicks in, I might hit you on Patreon. I'd love to share pics of my new ride.

Yeah buddy! Love those old Hondas. Glad the electrical stuff was pretty easy to figure out. My "83 Nighthawk had intermittent turn signals and brake light. It was my first bike and I wasn't much of a wrencher back then (still not much of one now tbh) and neither was my dad, so I just lived with it. Anyway, good luck.

Had a 2000 R1 sitting for seven years with old ass gas and it turned to chunky sludge also it rusted out the inside pretty nicely. Tryed straight vinager and something else, Cant't remember now . Anyway saw some dude on the tube and he showed a junkyard cb tank all F up and he used (apple cider) vinager and wala pretty shiny even new looking. No rust stains nothing. So I tryed it, Just wow and eco freindly Right. Nice work with all you do man... Lets Roll

Hello, nice to see another 550 in the city ! Let’s see if we bump into each other for a ride once you get her all buttoned up. Lil tip; for commuting with the heat and traffic we see here , try 20-50 for summer months and back to 10-40 during cooler months.

I have owned a 73 cb500 four and it was a fantastic bike . Also a 77 CB750 four the single overhead can Honda's are fun and bullet proof after you get it sorted . The price you paid was fair but if you can get one stock for double that price life would have been easier but since you are not afraid of a wrench you will be fine . Changing to an aftermarket aluminium swing arm will make handling much better although my 73 I had it dragging pegs up and down mount baldy in southern California .... Look forward to future videos

This was also my very first proper motorcycle back in '87. Mine was also a '76 model (here in England).

You just got, in my opinion, the best handling Japanese bike of the '70's. I bought one in '91 and started making into a caferacer on day one. It was my only bike for 13 seasons until an asshole wrecked it out from underneath me. I still miss it dearly!

Metal rescue rust remover works great for for removing the rust in gas tanks. Plus it's environmentally friendly so you can dispose of it anywhere

Thanks for this. It really justifies my buying my last bike brand new. I doubt I'll ever build another "fixer upper". I feel your frustration. It's hard to know exactly what to pay for somebody's botched project bike. If you factor in what you'll pay to get it running (and labor) vs. what the finished product is worth, you should be given the bike for free. But who would do that?, nobody. There'd be old bikes sitting in people's sheds everywhere just rotting away. But at least the engine sounds sweet, which is the most important part. 👍

The longer I’ve watched this video the more I think you should really put some effort into making this bike all it can be. CB550’s used to be a dime a dozen but these days there just aren’t any around anymore. I spent a lot of time riding one when I was younger. It’s the kinda bike you keep forever. It would very much be worth effort IMHO. Can’t wait for your next video !!!

I love my cafe racer 1975 cb750k(my first bike) It was $100 and was just a roling chassis and engine. Not running no key battery oil tank most of the electonics fenders and water in the engine, I was in the exact place people say new motorcycle riders should not be. all you need for one of these bikes is a manual or two and google. Super simple machines. Still took me like 2 whole years of little interest and cleaning things buying important parts like the rectifier electronics, oil tank and changed the oily water. I finally just sent it one day and gave it gas and a battery(car battery) and bang got it running on a whole 2 cylinders but I was hooked. I just bought everything in the next week and ignored all the important things like carb rebuild and brake rebuild, it had a working rear drum brake. First time I rode the bike I had the craziest adrenaline high I thought it was the fastest thing in the world, I didn't make it out of first because I thought it was down to up shift. Really to much to say, I had a hell of a good time building my cafe and learning. I now ride a 83 XL600R Supermoto, I sorta became a wheelie addict. Most the time my cb750 sits In my garage, sometimes my friends will ride it but I haven't in months. I need to take a road trip on it and give the bike some love.

Glad your safe and well enough etc in these dire-ish times. Apart from the dodgyness of the the bikes wiring before youset completely towork on it - more than just the effort in getting it just ablout working. The engine sounds like it should be mostly okayish; considering its 'old storage' conditions/local, that old oil, and its relative inaction and having parts 'borrowed' from it likely helped stop the engine being thrashed too severly by an/some unmechanically sympathetic a-hole(s), and possible helped reduce road salts/dirt corrosion on under side parts of the frame wher paint would've worn.apart from some valve checks and any cam chain noise, the lowish engine power hopefully means its motors mostly good.. ..infamous last words... fingers crossed!! I'd recommend getting a magneitc sump-plug washer-bolt, to to help find/catch any slivers from any worn internals, since its oil pump filter may not be as fine meshed/perforated as more modern machines sump filters like your Brick has. As an earlier commentator suggested, a fork brace kit would help with its thin walled small diameter forks. A steel mudgruad/fender on its own will not equal a proper fork stantion brace. If you cant get to transplant some other machines rightway-up or an USDF front end conversion.custom kit & yokes at somepoint, for improved brake mounting options if the old single caliper, master cylinder when cleaned and refurbed with new lines/hoses might still be, a little too Fred Flintstoney feeling; mind-due the rear is a large TLS drum (I think - hopefully its not to worn on the drum liner), if it's an earlier production model. A selection of good condition beefier tubed forks./front end from another 'classic' looking mid 80s' to a early 2000's Honda or Kawasaki bike could marry up stylistically, and have better caliper(s) (hell even upright Kawa' W650, or a older styled but newer Bonniville forks might go well with a kit and/or a stem swap, if such a thing is possibly out there). Sorry, as always I go on to much, too technical... /at least with a model of bike this old, while some parts may be rpicey, their should be a good availabilty of choice parts, upgrades and tuning kits around for its long life, from/in many countries - tho that'd make things less easier in some respects. Stay safe and keep well to your family, firends and yourself, etc etc, and keep it rubber/tyre side down ;) :P
