Ive spoken to Bertland a few times and i always forgot to congratulate him on that display of agression,nice one Bert, better very late than never. By the way Bertland Cameron was only clocking 47.1 as a schoolboy post champs.

I remember this race clearly a young Bertrand Cameron was on this team (still in high school). and the track fans were crying out for Seymour Newman our best 4& 800m runner.

Dave Jenkins on the last leg for Scotland a shadow of his former self, though did win a gold in the 4x100m relay.

Well he had been on drugs , but probably had to come off them for these champs.
@redrum41009 ай бұрын
@@ewaf88 Probably the other way around. He started taking drugs directly after the 1975 season had finished. He was declared world number one that year and was never as good thereafter. He said this was probably because he took too much.
@ewaf889 ай бұрын
@@redrum4100 Well I think he ran 44.9 in the US champs ( I must have seen a video of it on here at some point ) so he obviously had talent, so there would have been no need to take drugs. I guess he thought he could go a lot faster. I used to run with his brother , Roger, in the Interbank athletics league for Barclays back in the 1970s. He was very good too.
@redrum41009 ай бұрын
@@ewaf88 Yeah, he won those champs in 44.93, the only non-US runner to have done so at the time (and yeah, brother a good runner too - now a meg-rich banker). "so he obviously had talent, so there would have been no need to take drugs." Agree with everything you say.

@@redrum4100 Well at least we have a decent 4 *400m Men's squad now. I think they can get close to breaking 2.57 next year and bring home a nedal

“Ashton really hasn't got much chance of a medal" was ironic. Whilst Coleman meant that he was not a good enough runner (shame on you, David), he actually came away with no medal because the team was disqualified because Cohen, who dropped the baton for GB in the 1976 Olympics, couldn't help but carry on jinxing the team after he chopped off the Kenyan runner, rather than sit in behind (then he wouldn't have died on the home straight). Ashton's last leg approx: 44.5.

It's a shame that even now we don't no which country is going to stage the commonwealth games with less than 2 years to go. I think London at short notice to save it is the only solution.

Ngetich was ahead but he was outleaned. The DQ was justified however. England totally obstructed Kenya on the 3rd leg

How was that considered worthy of disqualification?? There's only a certain amount of room on the track .. and there's a difference between a confluence of legs, and something more purposeful...
@sonysakariah14 жыл бұрын
offcourse there was no need for chopping. since the england runner chopped the kenyan incredible stunning running of ashton was of no use...........so pathetic..............
@fergusalex5 жыл бұрын
mmm it doesn't really matter because the commonwealth games are not regarded as a major championship now. to win a medal at the Europeans is much more significant
