This is actually a 1980 model year vehicle with both the production date and VIN falling in the 1980 model year production. We got the VIN, we win: T for Canley, United Kingdom assembly, C for TR7/TR8 model range, T for TR7 convertible for the US market, 112483 is the production sequence, U for North American specification, C for exhaust control device equipped, and F for five speed manual transmission. Paint code JMA comes back as "Aqua" or "Pageant Blue" depending on what reference you use. Oddly enough, this has an automatic transmission so it should have an "A" in the suffix codes, not an "F". I think it may have been swapped in at some point. The Canley plant operated from 1916 (under Standard-Triumph) and closed in 1980 under British-Leyland.

I was just reading that the TR7 had a 4 cylinder engine, and the same car with a V8 was the TR8. This car has what looks like a GM V6 engine. It could be that someone put the V6 engine and automatic transmission in it from a GM car. The fan has an extension that looks aftermarket. The upper radiator hose could be for a TR8 since that V8 engine was copied from the early '60's aluminum Buick Special engine.

@@garylangley4502 This car was a TR7 with a four cylinder engine, and it's a 1980 mode year. Someone swapped parts over the course of time.

@@davidnull5590 I know that. My decoding of the tag was to show the original configuration of it. It was originally a four cylinder and as I stated, parts got swapped along the way.

That's a TR8 if the engine is (was) the 3.5L Rover V8 which owes its lineage to the aluminum Buick 215cid V8 from the 1960s.

True, but this is a 1980 TR7 going by the VIN. The only thing that doesn't line up is that the transmission in this one is an automatic, and the VIN says it's a five speed. I'm thinking it may have been automatic swapped at one time.
