My best friend passed Away in 2005. Running late for work we jumped the train tracks..ill never understand how it happened but he didnt make it to work.. Ejected 40 feet from impact of train. I went and got his suzuki over the weekend . his daughter wanting me to get it running and store it for now.. Hasnt been started in 6 to 8 yrs.. I'm having a blast cleaning it up right now . just gives me a hes with me feeling.. We rodehis bike and I had a 750 nighthawk.. So many memories ..

Well, I installed my own Dynatec kit few days ago, and it works!!! I siphoned off the switched 12V from the rear brake lamp wire, as the wires go in that direction anyway, didn't want to pry open the wire harness to find a suitable 12V wire. Ordered a strobe light for dynamic timing, after the heat wave is gone, I'll tackle that, for now I set the plate at max. advance timing, anyway, the strobe will show what's best. The old points were really gone...no sparking, intermittent sparking, glad that it's gone...

full advance is the danger zone brah. will the motor wind up like that? if it wont thats pre detonation and you will burn a hole in your pistons
@RayCis1
@RayCis1 Жыл бұрын
@@HighVizEconomist I know that, got my strobe light yesterday, and timed the ignition, turned the ground plate to its neutral position, and, after the timing, it was positioned about 1.5mm to the left, so, only a very small deviation from its neutral position. Engine ran fine, will make some testrides in town, to see how it goes, as I also renewed clutch springs & -plates, and put in new front wheel bearings, the old ones produced a whining noise when going over 30mph.

Brother I would seriously save every single part you take off that bike just in case, it's good practice to save everything just in case you need it down the line in the future, and brother if you would want to sell her.. I would absolutely be a buyer! let me know! And stay safe bud!

Enjoyed your video and your dogs! I have a 79 gs850 and had to do a lot of the same stuff. Was sitting since 1989 in a garage. Complete front to back restore including the top end, rings, valve guides, etc. Haven't done the ignition yet, went with the stock points system. Would like to do the electronic switch next. Watching you do it helped!

About the only thing I'd do a bit differently and it might save you time and trouble of repeatedly dismounting and remounting the carbs would be to buy an ultrasonic cleaner. Those were some nasty looking carbs you had. I took the carb off my 1965 Ford and soaked it in solvent for several WEEKS. Then, I scrubbed, poked and blew it all out. After I put it in the ultrasonic cleaner for 20 minutes, I couldn't believe all the crud that was still in it. The water was black. Now, I bought a Harbor Freight soda blaster and plan on polishing it up and then another stint in the ultrasonic cleaner to dissolve all that baking soda out of it. They do make odd shaped ultrasonic cleaners that would, I THINK, take all four carbs still hooked up together. You could've disassembled and cleaned out those brakes, too. And how about spending $ 20 for a carb rebuilding kit that comes with all new gaskets. But, you got the bike running good your way so I can't criticize. The only other thing is due to my age. When I was young and dumb I used to go screaming along the roads and through the woods, too. After all, DEER DON'T LIVE IN THE WOODS AND WAIT FOR VEHICLES TO COME BY SO THEY CAN JUMP OUT AND STOP IN FRONT OF YOU. Maybe that's my age talking (74) or my bike accident has made me skittish.

In the kit is a loose extra red wire that has to be attached to a switched 12v connection, where did you connect that wire? The movie is so instructive, but misses out on connecting the wires of the ignition...

82 gs850 here. I’m looking to upgrade my ignition system with this as well. I’m not sure if this is related but what did you do with the cdi box? Does this new upgrade eliminate the cdi?

These did not use any CDI box. Just the points charging the stock coils and then the points gap break causing the coils to fire. Old school points system.

You should really avoid poking jets with wire or blowing down them, it just causes problems as you damage the precision machining of the jet. Someone else in the comments, suggested ultrasonic cleaner, this is better. You will struggle to get this to run right now you have done that, just buy new jets and new emulsion tubes and get new needles while you are at it, you'll be amazed how ti transforms the running of the engine.

Hi friend. Thanks for video. When your dog heard unrestricted exhaust he/she was like: you know this is a bad idea, right? LOL. Question...if I understand correctly, after conversion, timing advance (for acceleration) remained mechanical. As opposed to electronic. Is this correct?

Diesel fuel is good to clean carbs
@californiadreaming9216
@californiadreaming9216 Жыл бұрын
anything 7441 ummmm....no. Diesel is useful for removing sludge, but it will not disolve the varnish in carbs. Soaking in injector cleaner for min 3 days is a great place to start. After that, they should go into an ultrasonic cleaner at a motorcycle shop. Then rebuild as necessary. Important: don't make the same mistake as me... THOROUGHLY clean fuel tank before re-installing carbs or they will just foul up all over again.
