Brings back good memories. I had a '77 GS 750 which I raced in AFM and Manning club races back in the day. Then bought a totaled one and rebuilt it a couple of years later. Rode that thing to Texas and back at one point. Sweet running bikes.

I had a 83 gs850. I was young and it scared the shit out of me. I sold it after one summer. Wish I never did that.

@KollynJ sadly i ended up selling the bike, it needed over 1000 dollars worth of work. I had to move on to other projects.

Bro the fact that it has a kick start makes it worth rebuilding from the ground up. They don't make those anymore. I have a honda 750 that has a kick start and it's locked up, Im keeping it for that fact alone.

I have this same bike. Fuck that petcock. I rebuilt mine and still got gas everywhere trying to get it to work. You really need to get that airbox back on, these bikes are tuned for the flow restriction of the stock airbox. Mine was a mess, I did what I could with silicone and foam weatherstripping.
@langspeedcycle
@langspeedcycle 19 күн бұрын
Dude I agree. Yeah that airbox is crucial to tuning the carbs right! Ignore the internet saying you can without them

I’ve gotten carbs like this before I take them apart as much as possible and dump the parts in 90octane non ethanol for a week take em out and 99% of the time they come apart pretty clean it don’t hurt to put a can of Berryman b12 in the mix

The 1979 GS850G is a heck of a good bike and you’ve really scored there - but I will say that it would pay to be a bit more methodical when trying to start a new-to-you bike or car. Perhaps check for. Spark at one of the leads and also check to see if there is a clutch lever safety switch…

It's definitely cool, also a pain in the butt. The 4 carbs are fighting me. Thanks for watching!

I watched a guy on KZfaq I think she was the bearded mechanic I love the exact same bike you do he bought it real cheap from somebody he took it home and during his disassembly of the carburetors can you just spray WD-40 also spray it into the light switches helps clean up the corrosion and the horn and the starter switch he also sprayed electrical contact spray 2 just thought I'd send that out to you poor future use
