Acrylic Pouring Blooms Technique Inspirational Tutorial Video.

In this video I wanted to have some more fun just using the blue black paint in a floating bloom, the results remind me of some sort of a sea creature. I hope this video is helpful and inspiring for you and you enjoy watching this half as much as I enjoyed creating it!

1.5oz (45ml) PM to between 1/4 tsp (1.25ml) to a 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) paint to start. If too thin add a little more paint (or even a gel gloss), if too thick add a little more PM to thin more or even more of your varnish or other acrylic extender/thinner).

Oh, Jodie! I love the blue black so much. You could use it for weeks/months and I wouldn't complain. Every time you spin I think, "That's perfect." Then you spin again and I think the same thing. Over and over. I guess you know what you're looking for as an end result and that's why you're the artist and I'm just an admirer of your work. I'd like to see the piece after you've played with it and "fixed" it. I didn't realize it was squirrelly in the middle until you pointed it out. Another duh for me. Looking forward to your new studio but I'm going to miss your furnace.😜 Another beautiful piece, as always, Jodie! 💜💜💜

Wow! It's amazing how that blue sparkle is hiding from everyone, until it's turned. Unusual effect, but I like it. Haha! Hi Joanne 😃 I’m so glad you enjoyed the simplicity of this piece 🤗. Totally give it a go, it’s really something else! I had to make room upstairs as my water issue in the basement is getting worse and may need to be fixed which would put it right in the path of my studio down there so I gave up our library/media room upstairs to move. Definitely less work bench space but so far I’m digging it 🤗💜

This style is quite addictive haha! I should have put a disclaimer on here somewhere! Check out video 36 it’s kind of a beginners tutorial for the blooms technique and will give you a nice overview. I tend to experiment on this channel with different things but using the same components but bottom line is they all work so whatever fits in your budget or what you can find in your area. I’ve evolved since the beginner and have taken the blooms on a journey with swipes and transfers so have so much fun on your fluid art journey! 💜

Hi Jody! Hi from Slovenia! I've just kitted out to try the spinning stretch technique. One thing I'm going to try regarding the bloom pillow for spinning, rather than a full canvas flood I will brushing the center with the pillow paint (just to have a thin base coat) and then pouring a donut pillow, leaving space for my color pool. This may minimize the center pool issue which seems spinning would be susceptible to due to the physics of spinning forces. Another small trick I've been using successfully is before painting putting big thumbtacks in the back corners of the stretcher as little feet. Eases handling and avoids having to arrange props on the drying rack. Looking forward to seeing your your new studio setup. Hopefully you give us a tour!

Hi Ian 😃 I’d love to hear how your idea with the pillow paint works out for you. I’ve learned to spin a bit slower in order to get that center paint moving but there are certainly different ways to go about it and what you’re thinking sounds like a great idea! While you were modifying this bloom, the light hit that blue-black and I surprised myself when I blurted out "f*ck, that blue-black is gorgeous!" I made myself LOL! Beautiful bloom even with a squirrely center. Will you show us after you've jazzed it up? Can't wait to see new studio!

Hmm looking at it I'm not so sure that it was the paint shifting otherwise it would have moved on the outside petals towards the way it shifted I think it's more an issue of too much cell activator and nowhere to sink so it started moving and distorting because you have zero cracks and the petals on the outside still are perfect but I love these simple one color palette pieces you have done they are beautiful and I can't wait until you do the first piece in your new studio for Sunday! I'll also be watching for the walkthrough video on Friday!! Hope it's going well and you are enjoying having it upstairs now!!

Hmm 🤔 that’s a good theory, it could have been a mix of the cell activator and the Dutch boy, as this can occur with it but there was definitely a little bit too much in the middle still moving. Normally with the Valspar it can handle it but the Dutch boy is similar to the Behr with the squirrellyness sometimes. Thank you my dear 😉💜🌺

It’s lovely Jodi. You’re a wee bit hard on yourself. Embrace the “squirly” cells I say😂🤣. I like it and would be happy to have mine look so good. But If you’re going to embellish it have you ever thought of building on the texture that you have ie adding texture paste over the edges of those cells then painting the bits you want to change? Just wondered if you could take advantage of the different cells in the centre by enhancing them and you’d have a 3D multi media floating bloom…. Now there’s a thought💭 hugs D

😃 Thank you DL! 🤗 I don’t do anything with my edges. I like to let my pieces cure 4-5 weeks before I varnish or resin them and then I’ll paper the backs if they are a standard canvas 💜🌺

Hi Jodi! I’ve been watching you for months- just wanted to say your pieces are amazing and thank you for helping me on my painting journey! I do have a question- I use minwax as my CA. And Glidden base 3 as my pillow. I do add GAC800 because I have a problem with cracking… my most recent canvas is used Glidden mixed with GAC800, primary elements mixed with Vivid poly, my CA was Amsterdam titanium white with US floetrol GAC800 and minwax..my pigments sunk and I had major cracking…. Any advice?

Hi Nade, thank you so much, I’m so glad I’ve been able to help on your art journey 🤗. Cracking can be caused by a number of things, if you leave too much paint on your piece or your consistencies are thicker your paints can crack. Also your environment plays a role if your top layer dries faster than your lower layers your paint can split and crack. GAC800 helps to thin your paints some but it doesn’t guarantee you won’t get cracks especially if you are using thicker paints or pouring mediums. If you are still getting cracks and you are using GAC 800 then some trial and error is needed to figure out what’s causing it with what I mentioned above. As far as your pigments sinking that can definitely happen most pigments are transparent or semi. Layering them with tube paints in between can help or even mixing them in with a tube of a similar color to anchor the more prone to sinking ones. Hope this helps 💜

When you say white cell activator what are you saying is it white paint mixed up with water and water or some other mixture just curious

Nope the cell activator is a mixture of either Australian floetrol or US floetrol and paint depending on the video. I go over everything at the beginning, there are pictures of everything at the end of the video and in the description box below each video is a detailed list of everything used and how it was mixed for that piece.
