Acrylic Pouring Blooms Technique Inspirational Tutorial Video.

In this video I wanted to kick it up old school with some OG blooms the way the blooms technique was originally intended but with a little twist. I hope this video is helpful and inspiring for you and you enjoy watching this half as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Glidden Premium Base 1 Pure White in Satin: Found at Home Depot
Pouring Medium Mix Used:
Base - Valspar Ultra High Gloss Base C: Found at Lowe’s (In Canada it’s called Valspar Hi Gloss Enamel Base C)
Varnish - Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane Water in Crystal Clear Gloss: Found at Home Depot, Menards, Ace Hardware, Walmart, Michaels, Amazon or google it
PM Mixed 3:1 Base/Varnish
Acrylic Paints Used:
Jo Sonja Aqua
Golden Fluid Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold
Matisse Flow Australian Red Violet
PM to Paint measurement (ESTIMATE!):
1.5oz (45ml) PM to between 1/4 tsp (1.25ml) to a 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) paint to start (for heavy body paints). If too thin or needs more color add a little more paint (or even a gel gloss), if too thick add a little more PM to thin more.

Those two paintings go so well together. And wow are they ever gorgeous. You're so lucky to have come-up with that color combination. It's so amazing how your eyes go to one color then to the next. Jodie, hello hello! Loved seeing this color pallet again. Always reminds me of you when you first started. My favorite technique of yours is creating the beautiful crisp lace, lots of lace and cells. On your second painting, again that glorious webbing everywhere and the colors are so vibrant and the composition is so invigorating. And you are right you can turn it any direction and it's so balanced they all look great. It was a real joy seeing how happy you were with the beauty you just created and they both dried so perfectly. Your little crochet hat with the ears was too cute and you looked so warm cause it's cold out. Thank you for starting my day off with a big smile. Have a joyful day day.🌅💙😍😊

@@judithdigisi6450 The original blooms technique, as I kind of explained in the video 🤗 you know where you blow it out and then stretch it all the way over the edge so it no longer resembles the bloom you blew out, that’s the OG bloom that I learned three years ago 💜

Both of these are awesome! I love the colors and I love your laugh totally infectious and I thank you for that! I was smiling through the whole video and I really needed to. The first one I kept thinking it was almost like something cool breaking through the other colors. Love the edge on the second one and it dried staying on! Awesome and I also love your hats! I just love hearing the excitement in your voice when you paint you can tell you truly love it and I think that's why we are friends because it excites me so much as well now to these 2 pieces girl they both came out so incredible but I gotta give it up to you on that first one with the ribbons it's so eye catching and interesting and the colors together just worked so perfectly although I think I'd like to see you use another of your OG pallettes that had the red-gold in it but that blue you used here when I saw it by itself my mouth watered lol and theirs this one ribbon on the first one that picked up some nag and the red violet and made another color that was gorgeous too ahh i love them so much lol great work girl 🤗🥰🎨

You could use a blower or dryer of some sort, I know others that do really well, it just takes practice either way 🥰

Where to begin...your hats are so cute on you! Ok, so I went to your Etsy shop but didn't see the piece I was interested in. Either it's gone or not posted yet. Anyway, you're 48? Get out! Never, ever would have guessed it, but you're still a kid to me. Shortly after I started watching your videos you had a piece fly off the spinner. I think it was green. I gasped, then laughed with you. I think of that on your more generous spins! I don't know the difference between a regular and a floating bloom. Google, here I come! Honestly, I liked the first piece better before you added the twists. They went through some of my favorite parts. Just my preference, but the dried result was very nice the way you did it. As for the second piece, wow, is it gorgeous. As you contemplated whether or not to add the twists, I'm here screaming, "Leave it, Jodie! Leave it!" You did and it's amazing! Love it! Love you, kid! Thank you Joetta 🤗. That’s my other obsession of late, making hats 😂! That piece you were interested in I replied to the original comment about it on that video please go check there and you can message me in my Etsy shop about it also. It won’t be ready until March it has to cure and be finished 💜. Soon to be 49 next month and believe me I feel it 😉. I’ve had many blooms fly off my spinner before I realized I had to put paint on it to stop it lol 😂. A regular bloom is like what you see here where it is all stretched out and going over the edges so it doesn’t resemble what you initially blew out. A floating bloom keeps the integrity of the blow out and doesn’t go over the edges, like what I do with the gold background and then the bloom floating in the middle. I coined the term “floating bloom” to distinguish it as it looks like it’s floating so you probably won’t find it on google, it’s just my term for it 🤗. I’m so glad you enjoyed these two pieces my friend! 💜💜

Hi Jodie, I’m very new to this but I would very much love to try this. Do you add cell activator to the white paint or is the white paint cell activated already? If so can you purchase any colour cell activator?

Hi Bronwyn 🤗 the cell activator is the Australian floetrol mixed with the Amsterdam titanium white paint. Those two things mixed together become the cell activator for the blooms technique. I have a playlist of videos called beginning the blooms that may help you to understand all the components involved in this technique. 💜

oooooh Jodie I have some questions for you. The Enamel behr 8300 have a heavy odor. Than I want change it. I buy Valspar semi-gloss base C. You are used this in the old video. But I don't remember the number. Is not write enamel on my gallon? If I use this for my paint and my pigment is ok? The result will be good? If my blow out is ok 🤣. Do you remember if this base will be ok for the bloom? Another question. I read this week than the varnish Jo sonja (or other varnish) is add only for glossy the paint on bloom? Is it real? Than it may be replace by the liquitex lissage? or nothing if the texture is ok? When my mix of pigment with enamel and Jo sonja stay on his cup, after one at two days I see a white liquid on the top... Is it normal? Oh my gosh Caroline that’s awesome that video was presented to you. You can use either Valspar for your untinted base paint as part of your pouring medium they both work well it’s just the high gloss sometimes is harder to find in some areas so either will work. I like to use the regular Varathane polyurethane varnish now the triple thick was getting too thick for me especially in winter. I did a video on that, number 155, and it’s still what I currently use today for my pouring medium mix. Pictures of all cans are always at the end of my videos you can pause the video to see it better 🤗. I’ve used a few different varnishes as part of my PM mix over the years (Jo Sonja, Varathane, Minwax) but not the liquitex so I don’t know if it may change any dynamics but as I always say if you have it try it and see how it works for you. Finally, the white liquid on top is perfectly normal, all paints separate especially mixes so if they sit even overnight you’ll notice some separation, just stir it gently to incorporate it back in and you’re good to go, hope this helps! 💜💜

@@ThePaintedDreamer Thank youuuuuuu soooo lot Jodie for your answers. ❤️❤️❤️ Incredable but the video #155 was come to me yesterday. 😅😅🪄 After listen this video I understand than you use the Varathane ultimate polyuréthane. I searched a lot last night to find it but I can't find it. I am not presented with the correct label. On Amazon there are way too many reviews saying they got the "wrong" polish cane. So I dare not trust amazon. Is there another label or another name to describe it. I am in Quebec. On the internet it tells me that Rona has the same varnish as in your video but if I click it shows me another product or label!! 🤷‍♀️🤔 All I need is the varnish. What is do the varnish in the medium? Should it be indicated as having polyurethane?🤔 For a week, I can finally have Valspare, and two minutes from home! 👏👏👏👏👏 😊 Rona is now part of Lowe's, Awwwww!!!! 😁 The Behr 8300 smells so strong and it's way too thick for me. I'm super happy to be able to switch products. 😅 For the pillow, I can get it at Home Depot... But it's further. 🤷‍♀️ Near my house there is a Sherin-Williams, Ronal, Is there another pillow that would work like the Glitten premium satin? or eggshell? and in about the same prices?🙏 I'm going to give you a gift for answering all my questions so generously. ❤️❤️❤️ I don't have access to you paypal link on all video. @@carolineg.5461 Both the Varathane (it’s called Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane water based clear gloss varnish) and the Glidden Premium in satin come from Home Depot. The only other pillow I like to use is the PPG Multi Pro which is also from Home Depot but sometimes that gets too thick for me especially now in winter. I’ve not tried any Sherwin Williams paints for pillow except the color to go (quart size only) and it was just way too thick for me but others love it. I don’t know if they are still making that though so if you are going to experiment with another pillow I would buy small containers to try to make sure you like it first. 😊

@@ThePaintedDreamer Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me so quickly. I went to Home depot today I didn't change my pillow in the end. I kept the Glitten as before and like you. 😉 As for varathane... There is none ahead at all. The person didn't even know the label and I didn't see it either. So I opted for the brand "Behr clear, glossy, water-based polyurethane. We opened the container and the color is white and it seems to be the same consistency as what you are using. We will see. I will test. To finish at Rona the Valpar ultra according to their guide box, the gloss does not exist... There is only the semi-gloss. And it only had gallons. 😁 So I hope that my new components will work better for me. 🙏❤️ Thank you for your help Jodie !!!

@@ThePaintedDreamer Mother of God, I thought u looked like u were in your mid thirties. You have no wrinkles, ur skin is perfect u lovely person you!!!!!!! Your beautiful! I feel like my road is getting shorter. When I was ur age I was an RA11 at university of Ia. Mostly Histology & manipulation of animals. I hated what I did to them😞. So I drank ALOT When I lost my grants I was happy. Though broke with 2 children, I made Ends Meet. Such a life I have lead Jodie. It sure has been a fast ride looking back. I really need to get back on track with painting, now that makes me happy! I do draw & water colors almost daily, let’s me loose my mind & find my soul.

@@ThePaintedDreamer My son & his young son were born on same day. Other boy the next day. Daughters son & my great granddaughter , father-law, best friend who passed, all on same day. When is your BD?? I make crazy cards!!
