@@pietrosavastano4641 It's much more than just that. This is an emotional, tour de force moment; an upset of astounding proportions. The Russians (in the semi-finals) likely beat the US 19 out of 20 times. BUTTT, the college boys caught the professional Russians a little flat and made all the big plays. It's the rooting for the huge underdog on the biggest stage vs the hated Russians and then the Finns in the succeeding game. The completely "going bonkers" crowd added tremendously to the viewing experience as well.

The funny thing was, that the Russian game was NOT on live. It was inexplicably on tape delay. I was a mess, watching the news for updates, worrying if this could actually happen. And watching the game by the 3rd period the news told us that the Miracle had happened. This game was on live. Yet. I had zero doubt that our bpys would win. None. It was the strangest feeling, but a happy one. I for one do not think this game was anti-climactic. It was the appropriate way to end it. Cant beat the Russians, and then LOSE????????? Come on, no way.

I agree. Had they not won this game and the gold, the game against the Russians would have meant a lot less. AND many would have considered it a fluke. They had to close this out and win it all to make it all that much more meaningful. P.S. This happened the year I was born, lol. I wonder if I watched any of it...?

Now I'm watching the film Miracle on Ice (Mirage on Ice) 2004. And in passing I look the present chronicle. In the film, this match was embellished in our favor, where the goalkeeper Craig barely took his legs, unlike the real game. In real life, of course, he also helped out more than once, we will pay tribute. Watch the movie guys, I don’t like movies, but this is a good movie, how the team was built, yes, there is something simple, but the film as a whole is interesting. The whole film is only about the game with the USSR, but about the final with the Finns for about 5 seconds :) The late coach Herb Brooks, after whom this arena in Lake Placid will later be named, died in a car accident in 2003 at the age of 66. As a player, he himself was unhooked from the US team in 1960 at the Olympics, a week before the start. The United States, by the way, also took gold there. The film shows that he himself did not believe in victory, and apparently in life too, which is worth the close-up shots in this broadcast. In general, really well done Americans. After all, they bounced back in the game with the USSR at 3:2, and bounced back twice in the final! All in character, with a smile, laughter and zeal! The team was in a good mood! After all, we had a legendary team. Uncle Valera is alive and well. Eh. All the best!!!

A fantastic moment and memory..!! Biggest difference I see now is, although most of the players don't appear to be that much different then today's players, it's the goaltending that has come leaps and bounds since then..other then the goal that beat Craig high glove, all the goals were low ice level tallies..(granted the Finns 2nd tip in goal was unstoppable)..You don't see many goals like that scored in today's game...

In retrospect this US Team was missing about 7-8 NCAA aged players who turned pro early. Two made the HHOF in Joe Mullen and Rod Langway. Others of note were Gordie Roberts, Richie Dunn, Chris Nilan and Tom Gorence.

He was the best forward on the team. Johnson, Pavelich and Broten were a damn good center core. The 4th center Mark Wells was a late add when Cox didn't adequately heal from a leg injury resulting in being cut. If Cox was healthy Strobel probably would have taken Wells spot and Cox Strobel's.

Scott, I did some research and came up with the fact the USSR\Czechoslovakia combined had only 4 players born between 1955-57. If you put a Team USA together from the NHL\WHA\US Olympic Team you would have had approximately 16 players born 1955-57 G Baker (57) - Craig (57) D - Larson (56) Langway (57) O'Connell (55) Morrow (56) F - Howe (55) Holmgren (55) Rowe (56) Fidler (56) Jensen (55) Miller (56) Debol (56) Johnson (57) Mullen (57) Christoff (57) I think those years the US produced more talent than USSR\Czechoslovakia\ Sweden though its close with Sweden and USSR. Significant gap with Czechoslovakia in USA favor.

In the hockey community, The IIHF World Juniors are a major event. The USA has won 5 beginning with 2004 WJC Gold. Olympics are every 4 years and since 1980 the USA used NCAA All Star Teams in 1984, 1988 and 1992 and a mix in 1994. Best on best was 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014. Those 5 straight were tough to swallow with '98 and '10 being their best shots going in. '10 was a pleasant surprise but tough OT loss. They are legit threat for Gold in '26.
