Chance picked up this 1982 Suzuki GS650E for $250 to take on our $1000 Motorcycle vs 1,000 Mile Adventure ride challenge. This GS650 looked pretty good at first, but Chance quickly found out this bike was in need of a major overhaul to get road and trail worthy. Take a closer look at what it took to get this bike from non-running to ready for 1,000 adventure miles as Chance goes over his 1982 Suzuki GS650E adventure bike build.

Astonishing. I loved riding this bike in the 1980s as a road bike through the sweeping southern alp passes. To see it as a dressed and ridden as dirt bike is jaw dropping. I cannot fathom the skill involved.

Dude you’re an animal . lol That bike was built for highway use . You turned it into a knurly off road adventure bike . Good for you . I started off with I think was a 1978 GS 650G back in the day . Fun listening to and watching you’re video .

Pleasantly surprised when you won the no dab section considering the amount of suspension it got. It was like 80% rider. 20% bike. Would love to see a first person POV on that!

I had GS750E’s & L’s & a GS1000E in the late 70’s…. These were tough bikes in their day. But, I think this was probably the ultimate challenge! I can’t even imagine attempting this. Congratulations! Chance you were definitely the winner on this ride! Thanks and can’t wait to see the next series!

Chance, Where did you get the stuff to rebuild the Carbs ? I have a 1982 Yamaha XJ 550 Maxim, and the Carb Diaphrams are one piece with the sliders and IF you can find them, they are like $200 or more EACH, Times Four... Did you get just the seals and or gaskets ?

Luckily my carbs were complete and the diaphragms were in good shape, I just did gaskets and seals. I've had decent luck with Sudco having items like those, just a little pricey.

Chance, You don't happen to still have that vetter front fairing from the GS650E hanging around, do ya? I rock one on my '84 Sabre, and am planning on fixing one when I get my '71 CL450 "Fire road wanderer" project. The one for the 450 is in rough shape, haha. I'm intrigued by the extra deflectors clipped on to the fairing, and if you've at least got more pictures that might help me figure out how to make a pair for mine, I'd appreciate it.

Chance, How well did those tires work? Especially the front tire, any wash out? Also how did they look after the 1000 miles, tread wear?
@chancelorerwin5211
@chancelorerwin5211 2 жыл бұрын
The tires worked great for this bike! They gave great traction and never washed out with how hard I pushed the bike off-road. After the ride the tread looks OK, and I wouldn't hesitate taking them on the same type of conditions for at least another 2,000 miles. So for a "knobby" tire in harsh conditions I'd expect 3-5K miles.
