Rod Carew after starting the season 48 for 96, went 112 for 376 "only" a .298 clip. He hit .339 overall.

Meanwhile, leading off for The Phils, Pete Rose had 121 hits 0 HR .245 and batting second Morgan with 93 hits .230 avg. Tony Perez should have played 1st base full time with Rose benched, who only scored 45 runs as leadoff.

Baseball game coverage never changes.. 1983... 2008... Endless useless stats and nonstop chatter, same camera angles, every player is great, every manager is brilliant. No one ever sincerely criticized for any mistake.. Just non-stop positivity

1:08:10 Speier, a proven shortstop, lost his job to Bryan Little. Insane move. Only Ozzie Smith had fewer errors in 1982. Speier knocked in 60 rbi's and hit with power.

LOL. Forfeiting games because you show replays? The umps didn't want you to embarrass them with their terrible calls. Gawd, that was and still is an embarrassment of a stadium.

Costas/Kubek was a better team than Scully/Garagiola.

Yeah, I'd agree with you... at least about the Costas of this era. Scully is vastly overrated. I'm not arguing he was bad, just that people would simply mindlessly repeat what other people said about him, a lot like people also continually say Cardinals fans are the best in baseball... because they wear red to games. Whoop-de-doo! Me personally, I'd liked Garagiola and Kubek from the 1970s, mainly because that's what I grew up on. I quit watching GOW when Scully came on, just yammering on and on with some story that never went anywhere like Grampa Simpson. Costas seriously went downhill himself and became a lot like Scully in his later days. But yes, in 1983, Costas was a fine announcer and with Kubek, that was a good crew.
