PLEASE NOTE: The model year is 1983 not 1985 as mentioned in the commentary.
For sale as a restoration project. A classic Hymer from 1983. The sister ship to the S660 on show at the Hymer museum in Bad Waldsee, Germany. Apparently it was a special build for Herr Halda, Hymer's Technical Director.
This motorhome requires some work to restore it to a useable Classic 1980's campervan, but once completed will be worth very considerably more than the purchase price.
It is currently standing in France. It is being sold, as is, without registration, and cannot currently be driven on the road. It will have to be transported to the buyer's location by a recovery type vehicle. I can arrange this at the buyer's expense (estimated @ 1,500 Euros).
There is some documentation and two sets of keys.
It is based on the Mercedes 2.9 litre, 5 cylinder diesel engine, with a 5 speed manual gearbox. It has covered 264,551 kms (165.344 miles). The engine starts and runs easily and the gearbox seems OK. I drove this vehicle in 2012 and it drove well then, albeit at very modest speeds (circa 80 kph max uphill and 110 kph max downhill in 5th gear). It has done very little mileage since then, so should, with a full service, be good for many more miles, if you wish to use it, more than show it. The engine and leisure batteries both showed a full charge on the meters on the control panel over the kitchen.
It's based on a 3.5t chassis with 720 kgs of payload and 2000 kgs towing capacity. It is 658 cms long x 222 cms wide x 276 cms high. It is a six berth; with a pull down double in the cab space, a double in the dinette area and a u-shape seating area, which can be converted to another double, in the rear. The side kitchen is fitted with a two ring gas hob and a round sink with mixer tap. There is a full height wardrobe and a bathroom with porta potty toilet (supplementing the original marine version), a hand basin and shower. Heating is by hot water radiators powered by gas. There are skylights over each of the three double bed areas. A manual step provides access. The gas locker will accommodate 2 x 11 kgs propane gas bottles. A propane gas tank is fitted under the vehicle. A storage locker, under the rear bed, can be accessed via an external door in the rear.
The overall condition of the bodywork is excellent, bearing in mind it's age, and would appear to need little attention beyond a polish. The chassis require cleaning and rust proofing, but generally appears in good condition, again bearing in mind it's age. The three skylights over the sleeping areas and one over the bathroom may be serviceable, but would be better replaced. As would the large skylight over the lounge area. The stable door works OK, but requires new connecting catches to top and bottom halves. There is a security (dead lock style) fitted. There has been a water leak; either from the top of the windscreen on the driver's side, or from the top of the driver's quarter light/window which requires attention. The passenger seat swivels. The cab bed cover could be replaced. The upholstery is dated but in reasonably good condition, albeit requiring some few repairs and a good clean. Likewise the carpets and curtains. If you planned to use it rather than mostly show it, you would probably have new upholstery, curtains and carpet fitted. It needs a new fridge. The existing one works but is in my opinion completely out of character. The heating system will require service, at least. It was, however, working when I used the van, back in 2012. The bathroom needs a new basin and either repairs to the marine toilet or replacement with a more modern Thetford cassette model. The aforementioned skylight, over the washroom, needs replacement.
It is sold as is and the seller does not guarantee the working of any aspect of the vehicle, and recognises - which is reflected in the price - that it requires considerable renovation, service and repair.
