/ woodsandbarclay This is a car that I refurbished about a year and a half ago. The current owner called me and explained he's having some health issues and can no longer safely drive. So I offered to purchase the vehicle back. This is a video of the pickup and drive back to Atlanta all the way from Maine.

Just bought a 1985 300SD (black) in pristine condition 120k miles. Drove it from CT to MD with zero issues. Over 400 miles and not a single hiccup.

@@woodsandbarclay wow! Good for you. Actually would want a 116 but not excited about the euro bumpers on the one you have now. Looking for more of a driver, rust free, with working AC. My search continues. What’s your recommendation on a Servo? I have a low mileage 116 469 SEL in my “fleet” and need to address that. Thx! Keep up the cool tutorial videos. Best! Chris

@@chippoz so when you say you're looking for a "driver" I interpret that as a fully restored car that is very reliable and can be driven every day. However the paint and interior may not be that great. Is that your definition of driver? I can start looking and see what I can find.
@chippoz
@chippoz 2 жыл бұрын
@@woodsandbarclay driver for me is a safe, mechanically reliable sorted out car. Mileage not important. 5 footer on the paint, interior fair to good. I go by the 2 out of 3 rule; the three things being interior, body and drivetrain. If 2 of the 3 are 👍 then I’m up for the car. Mainly on a 116, the body being rust free is key!

Excellent mpg. On the CO2 emission a quick correction. Diesel engines do emit CO2 - ideally only CO2 from C content of the fuel. CO is an indication of incomplete combustion, modern diesel emit 20000 times less CO emission then CO2.

Thanks for the video! Quick question from a lost viewer! You have tried many cars and we all trust your expertise: I currently have a 300D 4speed manual but I drive 99% highway and find it quite loud. There is currently a 300SD for sale. Should I consider it? Is it noticeable quieter? Is it "s-klass" deadening and isolation? Or pretty much the same because same engine and too old for considerations about noise? There aren't many SD's in europe so i cant just go and try one... Thank you for your insight
@woodsandbarclay
@woodsandbarclay 2 ай бұрын
Yes there is a huge difference with the 300sd. It is very quiet on the inside compared to the 240D. The 240D is pretty miserable driving on the highway but a 300sd is outstanding and is a very very enjoyable experience. It is night and day difference.
@Altanox
@Altanox 2 ай бұрын
@@woodsandbarclaywow... Didn't expect that. Even compared to a 300D N/A ? Also, I heard some people say 300sd is heavier but gets about the same mileage because it's more aerodynamic. Is that true ? is it hard to maintain compared to a 123 because of the bells and whistles?
@woodsandbarclay
@woodsandbarclay 2 ай бұрын
@@Altanoxa healthy 300SD is going to get 26 to 28 mi per gallon on the highway. You're 300D can get upwards of 32 if it's healthy. The S-Class Mercedes is a huge upgrade from the 300D. It's wider it's more comfortable it's quieter it's just a nicer vehicle.

@@woodsandbarclay damn, you're making it sound so tempting. Maintenance wise, will it ruin me? My w123 has been pretty much fluids and filters so far (+ few hoses or rubbers here and there)

Richard and I have some things in common besides 300 SD's. I see a Lexus LX 470 in the background. Take the tints off! ; )
@woodsandbarclay
@woodsandbarclay 2 жыл бұрын
Lexus makes a really nice vehicle if I were ever to buy a modern car that's probably what I would get. The tint is really good for original leather interior cars it protects and preserves everything. A nice ceramic tent also blocks a tremendous amount of heat in the AC's work much more efficiently. Sure the cars are easier for me to sell when I remove the tint however I strongly encourage customers to put tint on any classic Mercedes to protect the interior especially the dash. This car was actually already sold to another customer so we left the tinr alone.

How many miles have you driven your 300sd in the past 12 years?

I'm somewhere around 230,000 Miles. The odometer broke right around 200,000 so I grabbed another odometer off my shelf and just slapped it in the car so I could track my oil changes so my odometer actually reads 159,000 now but that's just because it's from another parts car.
