Ah the sway bar links. First time my 300D bar links went bad, I thought my whole rear end was falling apart 😂

Yeah it's one of those things that happens to a car and when you see what the actual problem is you're relieved because it's so easy to fix.

Very informative video on the A/C system! I just picked up an 84 300sd and looking to go the same route. This video is a confidence booster to take on the project! Unfortunately the car did not come with a locking key only an ignition key. Would the Mercedes dealership be able to replicate the key for this car or am I out of luck? Thank you for the Mercedes content regardless! Very impressive.

Someone change your ignition tumbler and got a new key for the cars ignition. So in order to get the key for the door you can contact the classic center and give them your VIN number. Just look up Mercedes Benz Classic Center on Google and you will find their contact info. They will ask you to email them a copy of your title to prove ownership. Yes they can cut a key to your VIN number that will work with your door. Thank you for the compliment on the AC video I'm so glad it's helpful.

These videos are excellent. I have an '83 300d that I'm trying to bring back to good working order. The A/C isn't working very well. I know there are leaks in the system although at this time they are very slow. I recently had the system evacuated and refilled and I have detected several places that are leaking. It looks like my compressor is shot and I have similar leaks as seen in this video. So I know I need a new compressor, a couple of hose, receiver dryer, and new seals for all of the above. I have heard that the original condenser coils do not work that well with R134a. Are these parallel flow condensers worth it as far as performance or should I be able to get good performance with just the new compressor etc? I'm wondering how far I should go with rebuilding the system. Any tips would be appreciated.

You can get perfectly fine performance with an r134 system. We have converted many many cars.

@@woodsandbarclay My car was already converted to R134. I'm just trying to figure out why the A/C doesn't perform well. The system is charged. I suspect the compressor is failing as it is putting a lot of load on the engine and I'm just not getting good A/C performance. I'm thinking about installing a new Sanden compressor with all new components from Klima. This is my first w123 and still on a fairly steep learning curve but I started out almost blind when I originally bought the car.

When I run the A/C on my '83 300d, it seems to put a lot of load on the engine. More than it used to. Is this likely caused by the old compressor? I'm pretty sure it's leaking so will be replacing it anyway but is this heavier load a sign it's about to totally die?

It could be that your compressor is about to seize up.

@@woodsandbarclay Probably the short term fix is to just replace the compressor and leaking hoses. Longer term what about these Sanden compresssors from Klima?
