The names - Foyt, Allison, Petty, Elliott, Waltrip, Earnhardt, Bonnett, Bodine, Richmond, Rudd, Baker, Labonte, BP, Pearson, Wallace, Gant, such a great time for cars and drivers. And at the beginning, Bill Elliott inside the monopoly board. Back then people wouldve been so impressed by that - computer 'wizardry'. Hope you're good.

26:25 I love this. Awesome show of sportsmanship from Bill Elliot's crew. But then again, BP was such a great person and driver, he likely could have pulled into any pit stall and had that done without a second thought from the crew.

Bill Elliott pretty much won everything in 1985 except for the championship. Darrell Waltrip won that.

Bill Elliott had to wait until 1988 to finally win the championship and he had to fight Rusty Wallace hard for it, beating him by only 24 points.

If it weren't for the suspension repeatedly failing Bill in October, Bill would be the 85 champion.

Mechanical failures literally kept Bill Elliott from winning the 85 and 92 Championships. And even with the late failures in 92, Elliott still had a shot to win the championship that year .... and ultimately lost it by literally ONE LAP at Atlanta.

My all time favorite race...no question....was a Harry Gant Fan and sad he didn't win at the time but Elliott's stamp on history and the exponential growth of the sport was sparked by Winston Million...the drama of this race unforgettable.... Winston invested their money correctly in this advertising campaign.

This race had two important memories for me. It was my first time attending a Nascar race. Prior to it I did know a little about stock cars and the drivers like Petty. Allison and David Pearson. I saw the Daytona 500 that started this season and first heard about this Awesome driver named Bill from. , I didn't know that. Some friends that were going to this race were looking for a driver to take them and more important get them back home. I offered my services but being one that liked a good stiff drink was immediately rejected. No ... wait never been to a race and wanted to go.see what the big deal was. Ok , we sat in Wallace stands on then the back stretch . When race time started and cars made pace / warm up laps they dropped the green and we were racing. I had Cale in our pool and remember first green lap as they came by. As the race laps were made , I began to notice one car that every lap.coming out of turn 2 was sideways ( loose I'd later learn) He was running in lead or up near and had a yellow and blue , I believe a Chevrolet and number 3. He kept staying ahead and sliding more then I realized he wasn't out of control.but driving harder , trying to stay ahead. When I could ask and hear. I asked a buddy who the driver of that 3 car is. Dale Earnhardt was the answer. I said from now on , he's my driver cause he s a driving fool. Lol. I saw my first race , became what's known as a race fan and learned of a driver , Earnhardt was his name and so became that an Earnhardt man. My life and the most priority changed and I may have missed 2 maybe 3 races not listening to MRN , watching on.ESPN or whatever or sitting/ standing in the stand here , or the Rock, or Charlotte after this race till Daytona in 2001. Hell of a ride .

@@PYLrulz1984 Phil came up here to Maine to run the Oxford 250 I think either this year (1985) or in 1986. In one of the heat races he spun, sat on the edge of the inside of the track for a bit, then pulled right back out in front of oncoming traffic running at speed, wiping out his car and the guy's who had the misfortune of hitting him. Phil seems like a nice guy but I'm guessing he's a couple sandwiches short of a picnic.

The hay day of NASCAR. Grown men, not boys. When fights happened, people got hit in the mouth not just a bunch of nipple bumping and talk. All makes of cars with actual car bodies being sold at that time, Goodyear and Hoosier tires. Makes me laugh at the degradation to what is left of NASCAR.
