Yes, this is not the entire game. All of the action, scoring, and key plays are here, but the original taper made a ton of pauses to get it to fit on a two-hour VHS tape. We've been searching for Game 4 of this series for awhile with no luck, so while incomplete, this is the best we've found. And it's thoroughly enjoyable: the brilliant pickoff of Darrell Evans, the bullpen throwing four innings of high-stress shutout ball, home runs by Kirby Puckett and Greg Gagne.
Yeah, there's a lot of edits, but all of that is here. Enjoy!

If the 84 Padres had just taken PEDs like the Twins did, they could have won.

Darrell Evans getting picked off is burned into my brain as one of the best Minnesota sports moments ever. It was completely out of nowhere, nobody saw it coming, and it completely snuffed the Tigers' rally. Gaetti just barelyyyy got him too. TK put on a masterclass of managing throughout the postseason

I heard Kelly a few years ago (credit to him), say that Gaetti called it. He signaled into the dugout and TK said go for it. Absolutely the turning point of this series. Laudner is also the underrated factor in this series. Not only did he handle the low pitch and put that throw exactly where it needed to be, he had the huge hit (admittedly, off of a Jack Morris hanger) that put the Twins in front to stay in Game 2.

Came here today after the Twins beat the Jays, to see the Evans pickoff. That play was HUGE in this series. Guererro getting picked off today brought it to my mind.

1:54:05 To put this in context, one year later, Kirk Gibson as a Dodger would hit one of the most famous home runs in MLB history in a similar situation (playoffs, bottom of ninth, facing ace reliever).

What a huge blow to the Tigers that play. Darrell Evans was a great player and person. Big time leader for Detroit teams 1984-88. Felt bad for him on that play. Tiger fans knew how important he was and as I recall gave him a standing ovation the next day in his first trip to the plate. The Tigers don’t even get to play in these games without him. 34 HR 99 RBI that year at age 40

In today's Twins-Blue Jays game the Twins picked Vlad Guererro Jr off second. It was pivotal. It reminded me of the pickoff of Darrell Evans at 3rd base in the 6th inning of this game at 1:20:55. I remember the play 36 years later like it was yesterday. Love the stunned look on Evans' face. Just like the look on Guererro's face today. 😅

Very odd to me that Gagne was given an error for that play in the first. Doubt it would be an error today, but even in '87 as I thought I recalled, that would be a hit.

Tigers and Mets in the 1980's = Both won one title on historic amazing regular seasons, and both got their heartbroken in an upset postseason series later on when trying to establish themselves as the team of the 1980's TIgers in 1984 and then 1987 against the Twins Mets in 1986 and then 1988 against the Dodgers Its SO UNFAIR that both the Twins and Dodgers had homefield in those LCS series. Shame on MLB with those random homefield (1997 was the last season they did this)
@ckendall67

What's the point of complaining about it now...? You can't change anything about it. Back then, homefield ROTATED year by year, it's not like they just decided to award homefield to teams with lesser records for 'kicks'. The Twins in '87 & Dodgers in '88 just happened to benefit from it being their division's turn that year for homefield advantage in their respective LCS. I don't think they minded it one bit in fact. Oh BTW Kirk Gibson was on both sides of the result in both '87 & '88; his Tigers lost vs the Twins but his Dodgers won the following year vs the Mets. Oh one more thing....go back further, the Cincinnati Reds won the 1975 World Series despite the fact that the Red Sox( 95 wins )had far fewer wins than the Reds(108 wins ) but did have homefield advantage that year. Because, again, homefield advantage rotated from year to year & the American League had homefield in the World Series that year. But it didn't prevent the Reds from still winning Game 7 on the road at Fenway Park, right?

@SNESdrunk
@SNESdrunk Жыл бұрын
@@hmhm856 If you actually go back and take a look at games 1 and 2 in the Twins/Tigers series, the Metrodome did not play a part in the Twins wins. Costas and Kubak even point that out. The lineup was red hot, especially Gaetti, and they weren't slapping singles into the turf, they were hitting missiles off the wall. The Twins were the better team, TK outmanaged Sparky, and the Tigers pitching let them down.

That was back in the day when AL West and The East would alternate each year for home field advantage same with the World Series for a long time until 2003 the AL and NL would alternate for home field advantage and it not matter what your record was now it whoever has the better record witch seems fair

@@deanladue5367 That's right! And they point out several times in the broadcast, throughout the series, that Gibson in particular looked gassed. He was behind on every pitch. Hard to win a series when your best hitter is exhausted

Puckett, Gaetti and Viola and other players DID PEDs at the end of the season! Established by Bill James. Read his books. Same in 1991 though other players too involved. Puckett DIED from first generation PEDs. He was a swollen mess on his death bed. Twins need to have all championships revoked by MLB.
