I had a black 86 Trans Am long ago it was a 305 engine. But it was a great car. It would burn a curvy road up and it was sharp as a tack. Rode a little on the stiff side but that was ok. This GTA is a beauty and I would like to personally congratulate the owner for a job well done maintaining it's condition so well. Thank you for sharing your car with us, it brings back some wonderful memories of days gone by. God bless you.

I had a black ‘89 GTA from 1992 to 1998 in the UK. It was imported brand new by a business owner and mostly garaged, was like new with 18,000 miles on it. It was the L98 350 motor, tan leather interior, t-tops, steering wheel controls but analogue dials. Absolutely fantastic car that I babied, only modification I made was putting a Flowmaster exhaust system on it. Was planning on doing a 383 stroker build but emigrated to the USA in January 1999.

My 1st was also an 85! I got mine in 96 w/ a 100k but it was still illmaculate. At least in my memory it was. Had the TPI 305 engine. Bright red w/ silver ground effects. It had the same rims as this video except the spokes where black & it had the GTA style rear spoiler in black as well. My uncle put both of those on it. Mine had the exact same hood as the GTA in this video as well but had the factory big chicken that fit perfectly between all the hood vents. That was a $400 stock option in 85 & 86 only if you bought it new. What a car! Still holds up.

@@CarsShopsAndCollections yeah, I think there were just a little over 700 factory authorized GTA notchbacks produced in 1988 and less than ten early 1989 model GTAs got the notchback. I am not sure if I can save the one I got. It only has around 130k on it, but it sat up for over a decade with a locked up motor and rats ate a good bit of the engine wiring harness.

I’ve owned several 82-92 F bodies and love them! The last one I owned was an 86 trans am with a swapped full GTA interior and disc brake rear axle with minor bolts on’s to the factory 305 TPI engine with a full Hooker exhaust (shorty headers, big Y and mid pipe to an Aerochamber muffler) and rebuilt full corvette conversion 700r4 and it would surprise the heck out of people with how quick it was. The big Screaming Chicken decal was indeed a stock option on 85, 86, & 87 on Trans Ams only. They had the exact same hood as the GTA in this video those years & the Chicken fits perfectly between the 4 vents on the hood. It was a $400 option back then & dropped to $75 due to not being selected much before it was gone in 1988. It REALLY pops on this car imo. Its not as big as the 70's bird & is an outline vs the filled in 70's bird. It's still giant though. It struck the perfect balance imho ⚖️

Built Camaros and Firebirds at C-P-C Van Nuys. Worked on the trim line upstairs from late 86 to 89. Seeing your car Ron, and how much you enjoy it puts a big smile on my face. Cool no T-Tops. Durning those times the line was running about 3 Camaros, A firebird, then 3 more Camaros One year every 7th car usually a Camaro went to Japan. Without looking at the build sheet you could tell by the Dumbo size side mirrors. The GTA's were in my option the top product rolling out the door. Recaro seats were prebuilt, so the seat assembly people just had to unbox and stick on the conveyer. The year we built the white turbo V-6's was unique.They left our location and were fully tuned at the location that install the convertible topped cars. The black-on-black GTA's were just wicked. The L98 was the hot ticket back then. To those who knew it was the turbo V-6. but those were limited. After our area they went down to body marriage, that was really amazing to watch. True teamwork of 4 people. Back then new owners were allowed to watch their car being assembled. From body assembly all the way to final roll out to the PMT line for delivery. That wasn't a daily thing, but maybe once a month. Ron, I hope you have miles of smiles with your GTA. .

Bought an 88 GTA new in 1988. Took 10 weeks to deliver. Almost Every option. 305, 5 speed, digital dash, camel leather interior, flame red paint, t-tops. Never saw snow, and only a few times in the rain. I modified car after a couple years with SLP 50 hp kit. Headers, Exhaust, EPROM, Cold Air induction, and TPI Runners. SLP Runners killed bottom end torque and were replaced with TPIS runners. Minor custom paint graphics, FX fiberglass hood, and NOS. Car was a winner in class at over 50 shows. I miss that car. Actually, the revision to the nose (and side, and tail lights, and spoiler) came in 1991. The GTA was basically visually the same from 1987-1990, aside from very rare Euro-style paddle mirrors in 1987. And the uber rare notchback hatch from 1987-1988.

I had a white 88 IROC-Z A4 with the decal delete and a black 97 Trans Am M6 that I bought new, I regretted not putting the money into my clean IROC and keeping it, the car I miss the most. The 4th gen cars just didn't do it for me and I ended up getting rid of the T/A for a 96 Corvette, had two of those now the first a white 96 with black interior and the LT1/A4, the second another white 96, with black interior but with the LT4/M6 combination. I love that car, had it for 21 years now. Only has 81k miles on her. I had history with both F-Bodies and Corvettes. My best friend's father went to the dealership intending to buy a new Corvette as his last car but he couldn't get qualified, so we left in a new 87 IROC-Z with the manual transmission. I learned to drive stick in that car when it was only a few days old. And since my best friend wasn't old enough to drive yet (he was 15), I got to drive it to school almost every day. I loved the IROC, and my 88 that followed later when I could afford one of my own, but I swore the day I sat in that red 87 Corvette when I was 16 that I'd have one, and I did at 27. If one day I build another garage in the backyard, I'd like to put an 88-90 IROC-Z back into my collection, maybe a GTA Trans Am, an 88 Fiero GT (buddy had an 86 GT), and a 1970 Buick GSX (clone).

This is awesome! My dad brought home a new 87 GTA when I was 3 years old. The night I saw it for the first time is my oldest memory. Grey GTA 350. He had the SLP package installed. That car was around, and in his garage until 2009. He was downsizing the house and all the toys. I sold it for him to the owner of Hawks Motorsports with 36,xxx miles. That thing was perfect. He passed away last year. I reached out to hawks to find out where it was. Someone from NY bought it, and kept it safe. They reached out to him, and after a year of waiting, the agreed to sell it back to me. The only thing they did to it that I wish they didn’t.. they took out the original radio. Now I’m searching for the exact Delco tape radio. :-( Just rounded 38,000 miles. All original. Love that car. :-)

Due to mid-1970s BS emissions, the 1977 Trans Am was decent, engine-wise, but that body, and especially the front end, and even the rear end were stunning.

Had multiple. My 88 Tranz Am was a tune port 305 black on black with 16" honeycomb black rims. T tops loaded I loved it. Clear coat was shit and peeled. Also a 82 bird v6 HT, 84 305 bird HT. 84 T top full power. But the 85 Tranz Am I bought for 1,000 was the quickest. T tops, black and gold. Gold T/A 15" rims. BUT it was a 5 speed manual. Carburated. When I speed shifted to 2nd the car broke sideways and in 3rd shot straight like a bat out of hell. That car scared a lot of people. Bone stock. Once the secondaries opened it was fucking fast. Fastest 305 I ever had. Unfortunately those cars had a lot of issues. Hard as hell to work on. Never even think about snow. Headlight actuators are shit. Fuel pump replacement means dropping the rear axl, exhaust. Headliner in T top form always gets trashed if you like to take em off. I did love the car but in all actuality, they need todays C.P.U. and a crate motor. My Tune port kept up with a close friends GTA. They were underpowered and the old digital dashboards were shit. Wiring issues made me dump the 5 speed. Last one I owned. Back then they were a cheap fun car.

My friend bought one of these and I don't think she realized what she had. She let my drive it once and I was blown away. I think I was going 65+ in 2nd gear (in mid rpm) which was odd for me cuz I had a crappy little truck.

Darn this video!!!!!!! I had a triple black 1989 GT with the 5.7. It was not the GTA, but the Trans Am GT special ordered with the 5.7. T-Tops and everything! All I did was installed headers on her and a "chip," tune which helped make the car stay in 4th gear while WOT. Wow - his dash looks odd! Mine had the huge 4 round gauges across the dash - looked like I was in a fighter jet. I NEVER should've sold her!!!!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁

My dad bought an 87 GTA brand new from the dealer and never drove it. As a teenager i would take it out with my friends when my parents were away. Dad passed away 24yrs ago and my mom sold it about 5yrs ago for $16k. The car had 7000 miles on it.

My older brother had a 1989 formula One of the very first ones that was on the road he lived in Cape cod and got 140 mi an hour speeding ticket the highest in Cape cod at the time or maybe even all of Massachusetts. That W26 suspension was insane it had plenty of balls as well. It's a damn shame they don't make Pontiacs especially the Trans-Am

140!!! Dang! Did he lose his license?
@jeffwolf8018
@jeffwolf8018 9 ай бұрын
@@CarsShopsAndCollections no but they did give him the highest speeding ticket in Massachusetts to that date. He said he could see the sirens but they were like way miles behind them and then he finally slowed down and then they realize just how biggie was six foot two 240 lb of solid muscle. If he wasn't that big I'm sure they would have beat his ass silly. But when you're twice the size of the cops they're not going to be so aggressive to you unless they have the handcuffs on you. Which is amazing they didn't arrest him and haul him off to prison at the time.. I'm sure that had to be approaching the top speed of the car as well.

My first car was a 76 Trans Am in White back in 83. I still was a 79 for some odd reason I like the second bandit car better. I remember them new around my neighborhood then and I couldn’t have one making $3 an hour at an Italian bread bakery 🤣

My '88 was burnt cherry metallic, black interior, 5.0 / 5-speed. Wanted the 5.7, but couldn't get it with a manual, and if you get a "muscle" car, it's gotta have a manual! The t-tops were a disappointment. Hardly took 'em off after the first year, and started leaking. Wasn't crazy about the digital dash. Biggest problem I had was with that stupid anti-theft resistor on the key. Every time it rained, it would go into security mode and I'd have to wait 10-minutes to try re-starting it, and then another 10-minutes, and so on and so on.....😫 Dealership could never figure out that problem.

I Had a Red and Silver 88 Firebird Formula, with the 5 speed in it. And I managed to drive seven passenger's in it, from Castro Valley, to Berkley CA once. Had 4 friends in the back seat, Two Young Lady's sitting the front, And my Other buddy that lost Paper, Rock, Scissors' Jammed in with all the tools and an empty paint can in the trunk. How I only managed to get 3 tickets in that thing was some kind of miracle.... Then one day, my Sister barrowed it, got 3 blocks from the house, and spun it into a pole. I miss that car.

Pretty sure he's wrong about the stolen radio shutting down the car. If you take the radio out or if it loses power, it will lock. This was supposed to deter theft. If it's in the car, the "mute" button on the steering wheel unlocks it. So if someone stole it that doesn't have the GTA steering wheel controls (or Pontiac 6000 and Bonneville), the radio stays locked. If Ron wants his original radio repaired, M&R Electronics of Saginaw, MI. I sent mine there. They'll do a good job for a good price and return it to you quickly. The original radio is the only head unit that will work with those steering wheel controls, which were actually a new thing back in the late 1980s.
