As a former banquet coordinator, I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard this at a wedding. ( heck, they even played it at my daughter's wedding last year).

I knew Macarena was the number 1 song of 1996, so naturally that was my guess. I was only surprised because I didn't know Macarena was an actual person! I guess it helps that I grew up speaking Spanish and that was one of the first songs I remember ever hearing. 😂

Yes, that was the big song of 1996, so it was fairly easy. It was a miracle that girl won the game as she was trailing the whole time. The guy made a bad wager.

This was a very easy Final Jeopardy! for a 90s kid like myself, quite surprised Henry and Deana didn't know Macarena. The champ caught a lucky break here

This is an ideal situation for the second-place contestant, one that calls for a small wager. A wager of $601 guarantees Henry the win if he guesses correctly and Deana misses (or even if he misses, if Deana wagers to cover and misses). A wager of $1599 or less keeps Weckiai locked out. Henry's wager here is completely random and has no mathematical validity. Overall, this was a weak game for all three contestants as they missed a lot of basic knowledge material.

I thought Macarena came out in 1997. I was thinking about Maria from the song, "My Maria". It was the #1 Country Song on the Hot Country Charts from Billboard Magazine in 1996. The artist that performed that song was Brooks & Dunn. It was a remake from a song made famous by B.W. Stevenson from 1973. The silver lining is this. I felt I was wrong as it was a last second guess. At least, I thought about a song that I knew came out in 1996. Just the wrong chart in the end.

Same! I thought this category would be a piece of cake since I grew up in the ‘90s, but I was totally blanking on a song that mentioned a Vitorino. At the last second “the boy whose name is Vitorino” popped into my head and bam, I got it.

@@judithmoore7892 It was. I do agree with you on country music today. It's more of a twanging form of pop music today compared to the 1980s and 1990s. That is the era I like the best. 1996 was a weird year on the country charts. It was the year where three weeks was the most time a song stayed at #1. I think 2 acts did it that year. Brooks & Dunn did it with My Maria. George Strait did it with Blue Clear Sky.

The thing about that song is that you need to know the language to realize the song actually has a plot. It's an easy question if you can translate the lyrics.

Los Del Rio's blame for this is relatively small, compared to that of the Bayside Boys. The Bayside Boys' remix of "Macarena" is what pushed it all the way to #1.

But this is NOT the OG version of Macarena but the English-language remix version made by unoriginal DJ's featuring hot girls. The OG all-Spanish version of Macarena of Los Del Rio NEVER mentions someone named Vitorino.
