As a first car owner of a 87 535is at 18 auto tho this was the last grown man 5 series. My brother drove a 84 533i 5 speed nothing like that in line 6 . Real drivers car .

I think their fuel consumption numbers are a bit enthusiastic. I've never seen anywhere near 39 mpg on the highway with my '91.

You guys are looking at this car through bias rose colored glasses. That dashboard and climate controls look like they're from 1970, That interior looks like a gussed up Yugo, The engine is only 6 cyl for $48,000! American buyers in this price range surely didn't want manual Transmissions in their luxury cruisers. No wonder Cadillac and Lincoln clobbered them in the sales department back then. Most people weren't buying the hype this car clearly is.
