Lots of problems with Quad 4 engines. They eventually worked some of them out, but I saw a lot of them in repair shops.
@GalaxieMarauder15 күн бұрын
What issues did they have?
@RetirednbrokeinPa15 күн бұрын
Cracked heads, blown head gaskets, timing chain and chain guide and tensioner issues. The early ones were the worst. I had an ‘01 Grand Am with one of them and drove it 180,000 miles or so with absolutely no engine issues. It was a tuned down version of the originals. It didn’t burn a drop of oil either. I used Mobil 1 synthetic oil in it.

14 second quarter. Wonder what it did 0-60. Owner said "it won every race". Not sure what series, but it would be interesting to experience the handling. Depending on the transmission (looked like a stick) and the stock suspension parts, it might be fun to play with the shocks, wheels, and tires, like some low profile wider width. Then corner with it.

SCCA showroom stock road racing. GM had factory support for engine tuning, and I think ABS as well.

Originally 442 stood for 400 for speed door exhaust
@GalaxieMarauder14 күн бұрын
When? What year was that?
@GalaxieMarauder14 күн бұрын
Oh I get it you spelled it wrong. 4 speed, dual exhaust. Cant corroborate 400 because Oldsmobile didnt have a 400ci engine until the Toronado in like 1966. That was a 425 and would have been reserved only for the Toronado and the Ninety Eight not a Cutlass.

4bbl, 4spd, dual exhaust. THAT'S what 442 stood for.

Don't ever have to replace a water pump in a quad 4. You will wish you never bought the car.

@@60guitarzan the Quad 4? Because I rember these N bodies and they were relatively simple. All the GM FWD cars then were simple because they all shared components or powertrain layout like the Citation X bodies. It was the same at Chrysler. Everything was derived from the K car so servicing was easy as making applesauce
