Game 6 of the 1991 World Series, aka "The Kirby Puckett Game." Kirby did it all in this one -- driving in the first run of the game, taking an extra-base hit away from the Braves to save a run with a leaping catch against the plexiglass in left-center, and of course, walking the Twins off to a win with an extra-inning home run.
This video is the original CBS broadcast with Jack Buck and Tim McCarver, including pre and postgame coverage.

I was 8 years old and obviously a huge twins and Kirby fan. Our family's TV broke the day before this game so we went to my grandma's house to watch it. We had to leave after the 9th inning because it was getting late for me and my little sisters. My dad continued listening on the radio and after Kirby hit the home run, he came up to my room to wake me up. I remember listening to nothing but loud cheering for at least 5 minutes. John Gordon and Herb Carneal knew to just sit back and let the listeners take everything in.

It was this game that began to make me a baseball fan! I caught it when there was a show on Prime Ticket in L.A. hosted by Steve Garvey titled “Baseball’s Greatest Games” (I initially caught glimpses of this World Series on the sports news months after it passed) and then discovered the tv show that replayed this game, next week they replayed game 7 and you better believe it I had to watch! soon after I was glued to my tv Saturday nights to watch classic games; I made a big event out of it, cooking myself a bunch of my favorite foods and closing my bedroom door and turning the tv way up! My mom would knock and ask me to turn down the volume, my response: I am watching the World Series! I began my journey to baseball fandom back then; I was about 16

Unsung hero moment of this game too--the one run of the Twins' 4 that wasn't driven in by Kirby was by Shane Mack who had been 0 for 15 in the series up to that point, but came through when it counted here.

I was at this game with my father. I was in high school and a guy came into the store and mentioned he had World Series tickets and decided to sell me Game 6. We live 3 hours away and I'll always remember that moment. I remember walking down the street back to the car and people were chanting "Charlie Liebrandt". It was almost as loud 3 blocks away 30minutes after the game as it was when Kirby hit the home run.

Could someone please explain why in the footage I have seen from the 87 and 91 world series there is a section in the upper deck behind home plate in the dome, that is completely empty? I remember this driving me crazy as a kid. Obviously I wanted to be there. Still cant believe Kirby actually hit that HR. I was 11. It was perfect.

I can not believe Bobby Cox strategy of hit and run with Gant, who did not hit well in Minnesota should have bunt with hitters 4, 5, 6 coming next and needing a run. Unbelievable, however, Kelly made all the right moves and changed the way the game is played with relievers from 6th inning on.

Buck was more of a radio announcer than a TV announcer and it showed here. He never got out of radio mode. And McCarver has to try too hard to do contrast. Have you watched any games on ABC in the ‘80’s though, when McCarver was teamed with Al Michaels and Jim Palmer? That was a well-balanced crew with chemistry coming out their ears. You could tell those guys were friends outside the booth and that makes a huge difference.
