Thanks for the video. On the part to remove the key to get the spindle nut off I used a small magnet but semi powerful one. Took a seconds. Slid right out.

video helped massively but with the key that holds the large nut 2" 3\8 inch in place before you pull the rotor off if you use a small magnet it comes out with zero effort.

You never want grease on the braking surface of drums or rotors, if you do happen to get some grease on them use brake cleaner and clean rags to clean it off, if you don't the grease will make hard spots in the metal causing brake pedal pulsing and brake chatter. Also clean pads and shoes with liberal amounts of brake cleaner also. And never, I repeat never drive your bearing races out in the manner in which he did, you always pound them out rotating around the outer edge so not to cause damage to the races resting surface by distorting it. I also use a magnet to remove the key pin!!!

I really enjoyed watching your video. Not only very informative, I like your humor also. I am getting ready to make my first attempt of doing the same thing to my Ford Explorere XLT. I was quoted over $650 by my mechanic to do both sides. I dont want to pay that much. I am also a gamer also and vaper!!! My game is World of Warcraft and ESO! My wife and I play. We are in our 50's... but very hardcore! Tell me what games you guy play! I plan on fully retiring next year and all I am gonna do is play WoW until I F'n die!!!

I have a 94 Ford Explorer the problem is that it backfires or sputter when I give a great amount of acceleration, as if I was going to pass someone. With backfire pops a few times then gets it power back. I have reserved injectors, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, gutted c. converter...In addition I have to leave the massive air control unplugged because it stop the backfire but my truck looses it power...Question Can the 94 have a timing adjustments..Wonder if it out of timing...Please contact me..mrjpitts@yahoo.com. Or leave message on here for me Thank you

Shit if you could go through the whole 'pass smog' process on that explorer i would be stoked. I gotta figure that out by next month, and so far all i figured out is that the vacuum hoses are underneath a godawful amount of motor

Okay, so the 1st brake pad just slides into the thingy, right? Without any clip? The 2nd one is attached to the caliper first and then slid back on? Correct? Clip or no clip on the 1st brake pad when you put it back on?

This video is really old so I doubt I'll get an answer but is the hub part of the disk on this year Explorer? In other words, rather than replacing and repacking the bearings can you just replace the hub? I went on Rockauto and they sell disks that appear to have the hub installed (lug studs are shown in the photo) but they also sell a separate hub with the bearings in place for the same year Explorer but it doesn't look like what I see in your video. I've had to replace wheel bearings on a few cars now and generally I don't bother with the hassle of replacing the bearings because the cost of a new hub isn't all that much and it makes things much quicker. Can you do that on a 94' Explorer?
@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259
@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 Жыл бұрын
A new hub/disk casting is a single piece and probably comes with the bearing outer races installed, else you'l need to install new outer bearing races. Regardless, you must make sure the races are fully seated in the hub and they're undamaged. Final seating of the races is accomplished during bearing install, torqing and then spinning the hub. After the races are seated, the final torque on the inner bearing nut is just finger tight, back off slightly to align keyway and insert the locking key. There should be just enough bearing clearance to be barely perceptable and the hub should spin freely on the freshly packed bearings without any odd noise. The hub should not be difficult to spin. Then proceed to install brake caliper, etc.

@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 Thanks for the heads up. I priced out an entire assembly (hub) for my 94 Explorer and unlike the ones I replaced in my car they are quite a but more expensive (around $130 each). Bearings - about $3 so in this instance I might just go the long route and do what you did.

@@richmac918 19214 is the grease seal for the '94 4x4 explorer hub, shouldn't be more than $15 for both. A quick search on ebay shows a set of two new rotors for $106.57, including shipping charge "free shipping". Make sure to specify 4x4, the 2x4 hub is different.
@markcjm883

it is NOT correct to fill the hub cap with grease. This will prevent the hub from locking when gling into 4wd. Rather, use ATF. Read the book.
