Boardman's time trial is still the fastest ever done, that was not only due to him using the Lotus bike but that bike was made for his body size and posture. UCI banned the Lotus bike later on.

At 25:38 is all you have to know about where Lance World Champ turned into Lance Tour Champ. As he says "he (Indurain) goes along the flats at 55, 56, 57k an hour. I was in my 53 11... getting dropped." He saw the writing on the wall.

Every year Liggett was telling that Indurain never attacked, but he attacked effectfully every year of his Tour tenure. In 1991 he attacked on the descent before the final climb of the first mountains stage (later getting company from Chiapucci who attacked at the bottom of that final climb) and Indurain had also attacked on one of the flat stages before that. Both times winning important time. In 1992 he again attacked on the first mountains stage when he saw that Lemond was in trouble. He did the same again in 1993, when he saw Bugno in trouble on the first mountains stage. And again here in 1994 he attacked on the first mountains stage - this time when he witnessed Rominger was hurting bad. In 1995 Indurain made a very surprising attack on the way to Liege with Johan Bruyneel on his wheel. That was the day before the first big time trial so it was a big surprise to see him spend energy on that stage. Eventhough it had some of the climbs from Liege-Bastogne-Liege (I believe La Radoute was one of them) it was still a relatively flat stage to see a favourite attack.

I remember seeing that cornering error by Indurain. I live in that area now so I know that corner well. It’s the first right hander after the super-fast, safe straight bit of the Malaucene descent. You’re used to descending at 80kph and the corner tightens.
