What a great, inspiring movie. I grew up in the 50's and 60's, but I was never affected by racism, and didn't know about it until I was grown. I was raised in a small town in Wyoming. We had "black" families that lived there as well, and didn't think anything about it. The people in our town never treated them any different than anyone else. We all went to school together, all hung out together and went places together. A lot of us are still friends and are in touch with one another. I never heard the "n" word, or any other racist profiling, until I was much older. I think back on it, and I think it all hit me square in the face when I watched "Roots" on tv. I was so hurt by what I was learning, and it still affects me today. I just DO NOT understand how human beings can do this to another human being....just like the Holocaust. I have a mix of ancestory of mostly Scandivavian and English on my mother's side. I have English and Cherokee on my Fathers side. I knew my ancestors were on the Trail of Tears. I did many years of research and finally got the names and dates back to early 1800's. My mother's side always kept complete genealogy records, but one day I started to dig deeper. When I was younger, my g-grandmother was telling me stories and she simply said..." I think we may have "black" blood". Ok.... it was left at that until now. Her grandparents came west from South Carolina in the mid 1800's. I took their last name and started digging. In the meantime, one of my daughter's gave me a DNA test for Mothers Day one year. When it came back, there was the proof. 18% Nothern Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. To wrap this up, I did trace the family name back to the 1700's in North Carolina, to a plantation owner. I read his will on line and all. One of my ancestors (black and a slave) gave birth to a little girl by this plantation owner. FYI....I don't claim him !!! Of course there is more to the story....the little girl grew up and was married and had a good life. I am just as proud of this heritage as I am of my Native American heritage. In closing I will say that I believe racism is very much taught, as seen in this movie, by the 2 little girls. Also, in a society such as the one I was raised in, our parents didn't teach us such things. I am so grateful for that upbringing and just being a "good ole girl", from Wyoming. Love and God Bless you ALL ❤

What a great story! I grew up during the same time period but did experience racism-my mother is Japanese, my father from Birmingham,AL. But we lived on military bases all my life until my last 2 years in high school. I never realized people were so hateful until then. On military bases no one I knew was treated differently and there was a mix of races. My parents didn’t tolerate racist behavior or language so I didn’t have any exposure at home. Now that I’m older I realize you learn what you live, truly. It takes effort and self realization to understand you carry bias that transfers to your children and on and on. My hope is people realize how much different cultures and races enrich each life (that we take for granted) and look for the good-if you do you will find it.
@tracymichaelsen493 Жыл бұрын
I to come from slave owners, I am mixed race. I claim them even though they would not want me. Racism is a self loathing we all have, as we are by genetics from monsters and if that side we all have is cultivated enough that is what we again become. Accepting our own dark sides and knowing the difference between evil and goodness is a cross we must all bear as individuals. We are all the good the bad and the ugly and we all have freedom to choose. I choose to be good. Bless you as well. ❤

One thing I will never understand is how a person can automatically hate another human being just because their skin is a different color. Predjudice is one of worst things in this crazy world. We were all created equal and in the image of Christ. It just saddens me. It is a taught behavior and it is being taught in all shades. Teach your children to love and accept others and not judge based on skin color.
@michaeljackson77327 жыл бұрын

@johannajo45146 жыл бұрын
Well, equal is not enough! Highly melanated people would need much more than we caucasians do, in order to live a fair life. We have been playing with their minds and lifes from when we first went to africa! It was a big setup against people whom are physically and spiritually stronger than us.. I just hope they wont let us keep fooling them, unite, and realize that we, white folks, are actually the minorty. That they were the ones teaching us, when the white skin was still new to this world.
@smitajky6 жыл бұрын
Yet hating a person because of their religion, their politics, their wealth, their sex, their age is all just fine?
@moonxshakti6 жыл бұрын
kim biscari This is well said. I think they are scared. The funny thing is that there is no biological truth to "races" of people. Over time, cultures that live nearer the equator develop to have more melanin, over generations, and therefore darker skin. I could use a little more melanin myself, to process sunlight a little better...
@lark6spur6 жыл бұрын
I agree. This racism crap has been going on for too long already. If it were the reversal where whites were the minority and they were the ones being terrorized, how long would they last??? The color of the skin doesn't matter, it is the character and the quality of the individual!!! Just because someone has white skin doesn't make them quality!!!

What an amazing movie! I will be watching it again and again. We have come such a long way and yet these old ways still exist. I remember a Klan member coming to our house and asking my husband to join the Klan it was a weekly thing. He politely turned them down and said to me and I quote: Diane if ever I ask you shut your mouth this would be the time. I did because I knew the power they held and still do. I know this is a movie but Holt stood up and stood strong and proud. This horrid way of thinking can only be changed for the better if one stands up stands strong and stands proud. We are a tri-racial family both black white and native. I wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy and believe and pray because that's what keeps us strong.

Mouth to mouth ressurection xD that Mom is such a sassy lady xD And Holt is such a good man, I cried when he said he's the little boy's daddy now.

Great movie. I watched this before. A few years back. I couldn't remember how it ended. But, I was sure glad it had a good ending. Thanks for the upload!

Absolutely horrific how African Americans were treated, I grew up during the riots, due to never seeing color, in Jr. or Sr. High, I was alerted before one. Absolutely beautiful movie of the Lord's protection over this wonderful family.
