Love these trucks. I have a 1998 k1500 extended cab. I put a brand new motor in about 3 years ago. The only problem is a little rust and every year it never passes inspection but other than that I love my 98.

Great review by a cool person! Recently purchased a K1500 with the 5.7L 350. My first larger truck. It has 330k miles. Very well maintained by the previous owners. It used to be a government owned vehicle by the Wenatchee Fish and Wildlife Game Warden. It has a built in "spot light" and had regular fleet maintenance. No rust that I can find as it was located and used in the high desert of Wa State. A+

Awesome truck! I recently bought a 1997 GMC z71 with 277,000 miles. It needed a new gear box, wheel alignment, fuel filter, and a crank shaft sensor. Runs like a champ so far. I love my truck. Only other thing it needs is a new hazard button/assembly & a/c tune up. I look forward to the rest of your videos.

Great review. I have a 1998 Silverado C1500 step side with 378,000 miles on it also with the 305. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and have never had to add oil. I did have to have the transmission rebuilt at 200,000 miles and the air conditioner replaced at about 250,000 miles. I live in Houston, Texas and have no rust at all. Even the paint (red) has held up pretty well. I get complements all the time.

I just bought a 97 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 5.7 vortec with 180,000 MI for $800. Everything works as it should. The interior is probably a 8.5 out of 10 and the exterior is probably a 8 out of 10. It just has a little bit of fading on the hood and a few small dings but no dents and runs perfect and shifts perfect. Same color as the truck in the video. Extended cab long bed, I just wish it was a four-wheel drive but hey I'm not complaining for $800. Probably the best money I have ever spent and I've been driving it for now about 3 weeks with no issues. Oh wait the column shifter will stay stuck in park. Only happens in the mornings when it's cold ,but once the truck warms up for about 3 to 5 minutes it shifts to drive or whatever perfectly smooth with no problems. Very happy with this truck.

I’ve got a 97 Silverado as my work truck/winter beater. It’s got 260,000 miles and gets beat nearly everyday usually 5000 rpm taking off at every stop sign. I’ve put over 120,000 miles on it and surprisingly the 4l60e has held up😂 but I also put a shift kit in it and a corvette servo and it chirps the 35s. But overall it’s been a great truck, it’s just so rusty from being in MN it’s whole life it’s not really worth babying, also oil changes are pretty much optional. I do one every spring, with unknown miles on the last. But the 350 keeps going and hold 60 psi of oil pressure so send it

My ‘97 just tirned 200k miles this october. It’s my trusted steed. It leaks steering fluid and coolant, but never any serious issues. 350vortec does the job. Nice comfort and only rust on the bottom inside of the doors. Fuelpump went bust last december along with the drivers side window motor, but what’s to expect after 24 years? I love this truck. Bought it used 10 years ago.

I own a 97 C2500. It looks exactly like this truck color and all, except it's 2WD. It's in great condition, probably a 7.5 - 8 out of 10. Everything works and has never given me a problem except for the transmission completely going out. It's the ole' 4L60E. I think it's the sun gear that's went out. And by the way it's a 2500 light duty. It's got the 5.7 vortec, with the rear-end out of a 2500 ,bit chassis from a 1500. I think so anyways. I'll be hopefully rebuilding the transmission soon.

Yep I inherited my late papas 94 Chevy Country Coaches 4x4 pickup truck and overall it's in excellent shape with only 87 770 original miles on it and it runs and sounds great with that nice V8 rumble and I don't dog the gas peddle but take it easy on her !!! And yes it has some surface rust and the paint is peeling quite bad in some areas !!! I thinking of getting it professionally camo wrapped and Rhino lined in specific areas after having it stripped of all paint and primed of course !!! But that's a project that will cost and I can get done later on but now simple stuff like replace the headlights get my AC filled with freon so i can have cool air after not having it for at least 10 years but I would not take anything in the world for it !!!

Mine has almost all the original drivetrain swapped except the frame and axles and diffs, and has 265,k miles it is a about as new as I'm willing to go as a gm truck,it has a rebuilt 1987 Chevy 0.40 350 tbi from a p30 step van bread truck style chassis, and a th700r4 from a 90 Chevy k2500 Cheyenne with a 350, and has a replacement nv241c part time transfer case with the tag. Mine has rust and missing paint Dr side has several grey primer galvanized steel spots..lol my bed is a being a Silverado got a gm waterliner, so the inside of the bed is junk.. has rust on the rockers and cab corners, but solid floors and factory solid power window doors and are pretty much rust free, truck has dash lights that don't have burnt out spots, the transfer case indicator display still illuminates fine, and the factory power doors actually work,it must have been a lower option Silverado it has a 60/40 split bench seat but the Dr side is pwr and works, the trucks factory colors are onyx gloss black and quicksilver down the center of the side of the truck..and one thing on this truck I have not been able to figure out so far,is the 3 Rd brake light does not seem to work, but it has stop, turn,tail, reverse and license plate lights that all work?!

Overall it's a sound truck, family and friends are shocked that I trust taking it on longer road trips, but I've never hesitated, it's been reliable to me. I e got the same truck. Mines a 1998. No body lift. Good farm truck. I drive it daily to work 40 mile one way. My frame has rust but that bout it. I got the chrome rocker panels to. It’s been good truck. I put a distributor cap on and December and had to put one on again the other day. 3 months. Wth. Lol. Anyway mine has the original wheels that’s blue with the chrome ring. I’ve learned a lot from your videos on this truck. I watched your vid on water pump and went and put one on mine no problem. But after that 2 days later my intake gasket blowed so I took to my mechanic cause I didn’t want to tackle it myself plus deer season was in and he fixed it $417. Not bad. I don’t know if you still look at this channel cause I can’t find new vids but only question for now I got is. When I get in my truck turn key I can hear fuel pump kick in and you gotta wait till it shuts off to start it. If not it will just keep turning over and over. Or sometimes when I turn key on it doesn’t come on right away and then I hear it. Is this normal? By the way I call my truck ole blue. Lol

@@MidwestGarage yeah like I said love the truck but I don't weld well enough to do my frame nor do any friends not sure about mo inspection this October and estimates I've gotten far exceed the value of the truck and it is high mileage to put that kind of money into. As far as the V6 I haven't towed with it much but when I have it felt decent. I pulled a uhaul trailer last time I moved with it probably a few thousand lbs and didn't know it was back there. Decent enough for someone that doesn't tow often or heavy.

i have a 97 k1500 5.7L 74k miles. Yours is a 97 too but your using a kit that says it only works on 1988-1994? does it not matter?
@MidwestGarage
@MidwestGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. The kit that you use does matter. I have 2 different lift kits linked in the description. One is 1988-1994, and the second is the one I used for 1995-1998.

Anyone looking for (impossible to find) interior parts, let me know. I have the best place near me to get parts for the 88-98. I only do it locally, but I don’t mind helping you out. I’m working on starting a “88-98 CLUB.” where everyone that owns one can join and share the life experiences and availability of parts, sells or swaps. Share ideas, such as converting them into ALL WHEEL DRIVE and convert them into LP. Even share my ideas you all would love to see. Especially you guys, the outdoorsman. I’m actually in talks of opening a business, calling it 88-98 GM TRUCKS. Since there’s still over a million of these registered, it makes a perfect truck to customize your own. Mark my words, one day this will be the best business. A business of selling/ maybe installing upgrades ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR the 88-98. I already spoke to the GM guy who I know personally here in Arizona to see about licensing. We can have custom made interiors to compete with the new stuff. You can take an old 88-98 and customize it for under $20,000.00 Where can you get a truck that will be practically new for $20,000.00? With my plan and idea, you get a truck more reliable than the $70,000.00 trucks out there. Trucks you can fix yourselves because it’s that easy. Power grid failure? It won’t bother your truck. While you go on about your business, everyone else will be stuck. Using the 88-98 platform will soon be the most popular project in America. As an example: I just picked up the 3rd dashboard for the 88-94. I clean the parts well, get rid of the rust, cracks and paint them to a better than new. The guys look at them and they think it’s factory new. I know nothing about shipping, but I make the interior parts look like new. On eBay, I’ve seen dashboards that look like crap for $600-$800. The ones I get, I make them look new and I get no higher than $500.00 ... If I knew how to share pictures, I would show you the one I recently finished. Looks exactly like the day it was made for only $500.00 but it started out with a lot of rust. If it was just surface rust, it would cost the guy around $400.00... if you see the pictures, you would swear it was brand new. Even the ashtray looks brand new.
