@@mls01981 in short yes. It has gotten worse due to age and also lack of training. But more importantly, the biggest issue with Tom has been that he has continued to write songs that are outside of his pitch or vocal range. The new album is great precisely because they bring the whole album's pitch down and more suited to his ability nowadays. But yeah, Tom's voice is the result of never getting a vocal coach.

Blink shout outs in the performance: Pennywise's logo in Tom's shirt. PW guitarist Fletcher convinced Kevin Lyman (Warped Tour founder) to bring them on the tour because he thought they were going to be gigantic. The UL in Mark's right arm (not a fake tattoo, it's marker) stands for Unwritten Law, another punk band whom they were close friends with. The "Joe likes boys" in Tom's white tee is for Joe Escalante, The Vandals bassist.

I remember hearing this song for the first time on Much Music in 1998, when I was 11. My mom went out of town with her sister and asked if I wanted her to bring me a gift. I think it was a toss up between a Tech Deck and 'the Blink 182 album'. I asked for the album. She brought it home, and I experienced it front to back using my Dad's fairly decent headphones. Dammit is obviously the most commercially successful single off the album; and that classic punk beat is something I hadn't really heard up until hearing Dammit on Much Music. But the album, and how it played as a whole, absolutely blew me away. Even as I type this I get a sense of nostalgic Deja vu that takes me back to that moment and the visceral feeling I had that night. I cannot overstate this- Dude Ranch changed my life. And while it's easy to complain and say today's music is shit, or that it's all too accessible, or too disposable- I am just glad that I got to experience punk music the way I did in the 90's and 00's.

In the early 2000s I managed to obtain Scott Raynor's email address, it was through a charity he was supporting and the email itself was a star wars inspired one "R2D2***@" Anyway I reached out. I'd found Enema of the State nothing near to the greatness of Dude Ranch and it's predecessors and wanted to let him know that his contribution meant something. He replied and said thank you. He didn't bitch or anything. It was nice that I got a chance to tell him he mattered though. Especially after Man Overboard.

@@punkgrl325 I mean I guess it depends on your definition of the term mainstream. They were not the headlining act at the snow core. Primus was. They did have radio airplay with damnit. MTV did not play the video very often although it might have got airplane in Canada or Europe I don't know. They were definitely in the mainstream, but they weren't extremely successful. They had a large cult following around the country of punk rock fans, but it was only a little more popular than a band like lagwagon as of 1998.

Scott started the band with Mark and Tom. They were a high school band. Scott recorded drums from Budda - dude ranch. He also played some songs for Enema of the state but was replaced early in the recording. He was struggling with alcohol addiction. He would turn up to rehearsals drunk or not even show up. The albums with Scott drumming are actually my favorite blink albums. (Yes Travis is a much more skilled drummer) I just liked the simple fast paced driving sound that blink had at the time. Travis came in and the sound changed quite a bit.. also a big part of their success.

Crazy this came across my feed this morning! This was the first performance/song I ever saw/heard from Blink-182, way back in 1998! I didn't listen to the radio at that time (and still don't!), and most definitely avoided MTV by that year, so the only time I was introduced to cool bands was usually on Conan, Jay Leno (at that time), or other late night programs. I remember going to Walmart the very next day, and picking up Dude Ranch. Awesome album, from Track 1, all the way through Track 15. I still own it till this very day.
