Heater /ac thru the door is the vacuum hose you showed it is not uncommon for them to be broken.

Check over your vacuum lines these trucks are bad about breaking vacuum lines and a leak will sometimes cause a slight skip if all good it could be a coil however most the coils I’ve seen go bad skip worse under a load👍 maybe this helps good luck!

9 times out of 10 it’s a coil pack however it could be an injector or a bad plug or wire👍 Maybe this helps Thanks for the comment

and getting the fuel filter off is a pain. Tried those tools to get it off the spring clips, but they don't seem to work for me. thank you for your reply to my questions.@@ChristmanGarage

Did you unplug the MAP sensor of the MAF sensor ? These engines are bad about the MAF getting dirty or going bad it is the sensor just behind the air filter on the intake hose sometimes you can clean it with some special cleaner designed for MAF sensors. I would try that first then see if it skips under a load, this truck only was noticeably skipping under a load👍. Maybe this helps

@@ChristmanGarage sorry mass air flow sensor.. if u leave it plugged up it will start but immediately stalls and when leave it unplugged it tries to stay running better but poorly .. threw a ton of parts at this thing including new ecu that has been programmed. Thanks for ur reply back!!

Yeah the 2.3’s stock aren’t the most powerful thing around but if you have a cylinder dropping out that also makes a huge difference. Thanks for the comment👍

Sometimes a mass air flow will cause that but it also could be a temp sensor issue sending the wrong signal to the computer

First thank you for the detailed comment👍 good job! I personally would put a coil pack on it they are notorious for going bad. If you could swap two off the coil packs sometimes you can pin point a bad one before you purchase one. If all these tactics fail it could be an injector but they are not as common as a coil pack. Maybe this helps👍

@@ChristmanGarage ok just changed the Coil pack and still having the issue. Intermittent Miss. I drove a couple miles this morning with absolutely no issue and after I stopped at my destination and started back up the Miss came back?? Any idea of a fuel injector causing this? So I’ve Changed Plugs, Wires, Coil pack, ran fuel injector cleaner and compression test. I’m about ready to either clean or replace the injectors I figured if I’m doing one I might as well do all

@@hvacexplained9341 yes could absolutely be an injector sometimes you can tap on them and they will act up

@@ChristmanGarage I was checking vacuum lines and replace a couple that were very dry rotted as just suspicion in there rather cheap. I was debating pulling in cleaning the injectors or just replacing them in general their original from 1999. Everything mechanical one day will fail. I’ll keep you posted. Mine started out as sputtering out at high rpms and then now it’s ten times worse and just dies out all the time

Not sure how this one started out but when it got to me It had a dead skip. Make sure you double check all the coil packs they are notorious for going to the bad! Thanks for the comment👍

If they stick I usually just pull them out and if the tip comes off you can usually pop it out with a small pick 👍

Yeah, i mean they only produced these (and countless other engines) at the Lima plant for 31 years. They were so terrible that they put them in like 17 different Ford and Mercury models, and also the later Mazda trucks. So slow they had to even make turbo versions, and so poorly designed its a mystery how they ever were able to adapt it to waste spark systems and fuel injection. 8 SPARK PLUGS?! That's sooooo haaard to count to. Should just go to Walmart and get an LS engine huh? Seriously, what does "performance" mean in a Ranger? They're tiny, slow, pickup trucks, and they best thing they do is start up and run every day. Then again, some people think removing an EGR valve is a performance upgrade, which is in fact the opposite. On top of decades of production, adaptability, longevity, and the amount of love every one besides you have for them, people build the 2.3/2.5's for oval dirt racing cause they're SOLID. IF I ever see one of them lab coat monkeys id shake its monkey hand and then probably try to convince it to come home with me. Take a lap.
