Thanks! A tapping could be a lifter. You should not have piston slap with 17,000 miles. Just a question. How did you verify it wasn't the timing chain? Just curious because I couldn't figure out how to check my timing chain. My engine rebuild had 1,500 miles on it and people was asking me if I had a diesel engine in it. I knew it wasn't my timing chain because everything was new. Well, I finally did another timing chain job and this time I didn't film it because there is already a video about that on my channel. So I took out my new timing chain and replaced again. My engine as quiet as a mouse. My first timing chain was bad from the factory after about 1,000 miles. Here is what mine sounded like. Mine didn't have slack either. The teeth on the gears and the chain were not meshing right. Good luck. Post back here if you get it figured out.

@@ForceBuilt I got under my Jeep with it running and you are right the noise is definitely coming from there. What did you do to correct it?

I put another new timing chain on it. All my noises went away.
