I have the very exact same year, pkg, & color one in AZ. Drove it home for $800 with 183k mi. Freshened it up with another $800 in parts. Now has 237k mi on it, including a trip to MI and back. Just to see, at 55mph got 23mpg. Had my german shepard bark in that msg recorder.

Great assessment of the pros and cons of these vehicles. I bought my 2001 Mountaineer, 5.0 2wd 5 years ago for $2000 and figured I'd drive it a year or so. It had 165K on it, now 5 years later I'm still driving it daily with 249K and it still runs great. The 5.0 engine makes it in my opinion. These trucks have great utility and they're so cheap you can enjoy them and use them without worrying about them. It is not a huge vehicle to maneuver but somehow manages to be very roomy inside when it comes to cargo. Front seats are a little cramped for taller folks but fine once you're settled in. The interiors hold up pretty well, meaning the creaky plastic doesn't succumb to sun damage as badly as others. If you find one that's been taken care of, it will be a trusty friend that will grow on you over the years.

Oh man I logged some miles in a 1999 explorer limited with the 5.0. Man it was a great truck. Sucked gas but I didn’t care. I bought it in 2001 from ford dealer it had 38k miles on it. Black on tan. And I got a free set of Michelin’s due to the Firestone debacle. Miss that ole truck. Such a solid truck. Nice find!

First off I just want to say that I'm glad that you're still out here making videos. I remember watching your channel way back in the day (I'm talking like 2008 or 2009) But anyway yeah these things are completely unrefined. They are old school trucks and they drive like it lol. But you're dead on about the reliability. I've got a 97 with at least 200,000 miles on it (odometer is broken) that I specifically keep around because they're reliable and make for great back-up vehicles. They're like the Crown Vic of SUVs. The only point I disagree with is that these aren't meant for the highway. IMO that's where they shine. I'm not saying that they're the best highway cruisers but they do better on the highway than city driving. I haven't done something like this in years but I had a 98 back in 2011 and it was perfectly stable even at it's electronically limited 109 mph top speed. Again not the ideal vehicle for those types of speeds but they will surprise you.

The Ford small-block (aka Windsor V8) is a series of 90° overhead valve small block V8 automobile engines built by the Ford Motor Company from July 1961 to 2002. The last vehicle to have the 302 Windsor was the 2001 Ford Explorer SUV and it was the last North American installation of the engine, and Ford Australia used it through 2002 in the Falcon and Fairlane. It was first installed in the 1962 model year Ford Fairlane and Mercury Meteor. Originally produced with a displacement of 221 cu in (3.6 L), it eventually increased to 351 cu in (5.8 L), but was most commonly sold (from 1968-2000) with a displacement of 302 cu in (later marketed as 5.0 L).

I got my 1999 5.0 for 5k in I’d say like 2012 or 2013 it now has 200,055 miles 5k is a little much considering it’s 198k miles. I’d say honestly invest in a mechanic coming to check it out, if he doesnt find anything seriously wrong then yes you definetly NEED to fucking buy it. Trust me.

You know absolutely nothing about the Explorer/Mountaineer and should do some more research before you make a review on them and it doesn't help that you picked a crappy example to review. It is a V8 SUV it is not meant to drive like a sports car, and it isn't a small vehicle unless you are comparing it to a Hummer.
