@@scotthendricks79 im a signmaker apprentice in germany and in Our final exams, we arent allowed to use a Plotter. Its a Main skill we are absolutely required to have. Im coming from that mindest and point of view. In my Company i Just plot everything but in School we have to cut everything by Hand. Granted, its Not as complex as These Letters but you get my point.

Roommate did sign making. Rubber masking on the letters, then sand blasting the background. Maybe a 1/4" or more.

Hello, can you tell me what brand of sandblast vinyl you are using? What brand of vinyl are using to mask the letters before you mirror the glass, has a green/blue color to it. What brand of hide glue ? Thank you for showing us how to.

Never seen this process before. Such a awesome result. Nice job. How did the do the lettering pre computer?
@manlymcstud85883 жыл бұрын
by hand, probably using a lot of stencils, too. basically the vinyl is just a stencil, too, just a lot faster and more precise.

Lovely work. Just curious why you choose sandblasting over chemically etching with acid?
@Khaydari3 жыл бұрын
The sandblasting is specifically used as part of the glue chipping process. Acid etches leave the surface too smooth for the glue to take purchase; you need to use sandblasting or hand-scribe it with a diamond scribe.

what would happen if you didn't cut around the mask and left the mask on the glass through the chipping process..?

I wish I understood what that "glue" was for, or putting it under light or something till it... came off? Did it somehow do something to the sandblasted glass? ...Or the "silver mirror" part.. what was that stuff? what did it do? was there 2 ...chemicals? You used to do it? ..Or the black paint? Was that just masking that you washed off?
@maielsaeyd95893 жыл бұрын
The glue is animal based, and it only sticks to glass if it was sand blasted, he let the glue dry by applying heat, and it becomes harder than glass, than it cracks and chips away taking fine layer of the glass with it, and leaving patterns behind.

What type of glue can be used for gold? Seems a bit low in viscosity, is that a specific varnish? Can you share any information about that? Before I waste money on experimenting for some small (hobby) project.
@joepublic54693 жыл бұрын
You can get gold leaf glue online for other materials. In the video he uses water to attach the gold leaf. I have seen another guy use gle on glass but it's not as shiny.

It's called size, made with gelatin and water
@AbunaYeet3 жыл бұрын
The recipe my master told me is 1/4th of a sheet gelatine from dr.oetker in 1litre distilled water. let it soak for half an hour and then heat it to around 50C. after that you filter it 2 times through a regular coffe filter. after that just a drop of dishwashing soap to get rid of the surface tention.

So, now we know after applying glue, the box the glass is placed in contains the reaction. But what does glue do to glass?
@manlymcstud85883 жыл бұрын
it contracts, pulling glass off. apparently you don't need special equipment (or a DYI box), but then the process could take a couple of weeks, not to mention shoot glass shards and dogs love the taste of the hide glue.
@johnhayes64143 жыл бұрын
Do you have any DVD series on step by step process for this I could buy
@manlymcstud85883 жыл бұрын
um, are not these videos and others like them good enough? :) i mean, the processes are labeled, but they lack some details which other videos would show you if you looked around and found someone more willing to answer some questions (which would probably be more about glue etching than anything else).

what is that box you put the glass in for the glue to start chipping?
@tha_master_baiter18563 жыл бұрын
Its just a box for a humid environment, if the environment doesn't have humidity below 40%, it will take a good long time for it to chip. A box coated with plastic film and a dehumidifier placed inside will be the same.
@joepublic54693 жыл бұрын
When the glue dries it can go at least two foot away, at that point it's not just glue. It's glue and glass. It's very unsafe. The box is to contain the mess.
