A dash cap will not cost you thousands of dollars, 250 at the most, a whole dash wouldn't even cost you thousands. And you wonder why people would rather watch a video on how to fix something, mf'rs over price shit and bump labor costs of something that can take a few minutes to a couple hours with the proper tools.

I looked at the factory stamping on the inside of these Gen2 Ram dashes and they say “ABS+PC” which means they used ABS plastic as the main material then added a laminate layer of Polycarbonate (PC) on top. 100% PC is ALWAYS superior to ABS plastic bc ABS just gets brittle over time and the plasticizer easily dries out from UV exposure. You can find many hardsided luggage made with “ABS” and “ABS+PC”, but if you can find one made with “100% PC” buy it, because it will last longer and be more durable over time and not get brittle. The PC will flex and “give” without shattering. I learned the way about that when a large ABS plastic suitcase cracked when I took it on its very-first international flight! My belongings stayed in the suitcase but the crack ran the entire width of the suitcase!

Thank you Len, your high-energy personality and sense of humor always make for fun and informative watching. I acquired a very good condition 97 Ram 1500 2WD that had the beginnings of the "Death wobble", the Reverse-gear whine, and the Cracked dash. How about maybe talking about the clock spring. My Airbag light is always on but my cruise control works, so I'm going to remove the steering wheeel airbag and see what's the matter, and maybe replace the clock spring, if I can determine that's the root cause. Thanks again Len, for yet another humorous and helpful 1AAuto DIY video!

Wanted to mention to the 5.9 Cummins owners, keep that killer dowel pin in mind. Evidently, inside the timing case, there's a little dowel pin that might work it's way out & fall into the gears which will pretty much cause catastrophic failure. There's a metal piece that looks like a guitar pick that can be installed to prevent this from happening.

I think you did a really good job with this video. There is one point I'd like to mention about the first issue you brought up regarding steering wandering. After you've checked the steering system completely as you have described and you find NO worn parts, often times you will have steering box play/wear. There is an allen headed adjustment screw on the top of the box with a lock nut. Loosen the lock nut and turn the Allen screw absolutely no more than 1/8 of a turn. This put my diesel right back on the straight and narrow.

I did learn something from this video but i also have a couple of objections to it. The transmission regulator vavle makes a buzz when it's made of aluminum and Powder coated but it doesn't hurt anything. The snap ring in the transfer case was also in many of GM's1/2 tons as well so its not just a dodge problem. There is a harder snap ring made by superior transmission parts. The vacuum set up on these trucks is bar none the easiest 4x4 set out there. Ford had there own actuator problems and GM had all sorts of nightmarish designs especially on the all electronic push button set ups.

The 5.9 2001 Dodge Ram was my first truck. Best birthday ever. Me and my dad rebuilt the top half of the motor. Changed the starter and put a lift and tires on. Running 35s with a 6” lift. Did some performance mods and man. I loved that truck. My biggest regret was selling it. It rode like a covered wagon but man was it clean. Inside and out it looked brand new. Bought it from a farmer in central Texas. He drove it to the mail and to work. Never failed me. Exhaust i bought sounded amazing. Put a sound system in it. It was an extension of myself. If i could do it over again i would keep it and manage the bad mpg. It was white with black pin stripes. The best looking truck in my home town. My girlfriend then and now fiancé named it the honky 5000. High school and college, drove it every day. I pray one day i see it again and maybe get behind the wheel to relive my Childhood.

I have a Few more. Second Gens were around the Project Years so this is what I found with My 5.9 Magnum Gas 360 2wd. 1. If you move the throttle body assemble at all it is possible that the Transmission Valve (TV cable) in these trucks could be over tightened or be hit out of adjustment which could cost a bit of money putting it back to FactoryShifting Tune and along with any other problems it causes. 2. Has to be that if the Evap hoses or any of the system gets confiscated with air it purges with oil cause all the throttle systems to clog with oil and collect dirt. 3. If they overeat at all there is a concern for destroying the engine by simply breaking a bolt to cracking an overheated head with water. 4. Super old truck could have a clogged cat. 5. They should most definitely have an exhaust leak around the time anyone used a truck. 6. There is a drain hose that if is clogged the water will leak into Your Passengers Floor Board. 7. The Steering column assembly will smack the firewall or engine bay with any Size Lift or on turns. 8. A/C will go out after one Year due to any leaks or engine malfunction. All though after all these situations I am fixing the trucks and learning more things about it. I wish I could learn how to convert gas vehicles to hybrid🔥. Gotta sell it after a phew winters .

I have replaced transmission governor twice. Have replaced camshaft sensor in distributor number of times gone with manufacture by the name of standard hopefully it will hold up. Standard does make Blue Streak rotor and cap that's the way to go. Had a 88 replaced camshaft sensor couple of times use Mopar brand. It gets old having one in the glove box for a spare.

Other than that they are good trucks LOL . I had a 2001 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.9 The plenum leaking oil under the intake. . The heater core went bad at 65,000 miles. You have to remove that brittle dash you mentioned. 2 water pumps , 3 transmissions . First transmission problem started at 60,000 miles . The second at 135,000 and the third never shifted correctly constantly searching for correct gear. Drive shaft fell out of it , AC quit working . Finally sold it for little of nothing just got tired of constant problems. Dodge could have kept me as a customer if they would have recalled them . Obvious problems with the transmissions and the dash cracking but Dodge elected to let us pay for their fuck ups. So no more Dodge for me. Toyota is the truck.

what you explained on this veeracle is not death wobble its just loose components death wobble is actually a hydraulic phenomenon that happens inside the gear box that causes rapid shaking of the steering wheel and all components down to the wheels.

I would add the plenum gasket on the bottom of the intake manifold. My Dakota shares the same engine (5.2/5.9 magnum) and it's a very common problem. You end up with oil consumption and pinging.

3 out of five for me, but only because I have a 2WD. Vacuum leaks are getting to me, though. The dash replacement, does it require removing the dash, or is it applied over the busted up rotting one?

Top 3 problems on the Gen 2 Cummins diesels are the xcheap and faulty fuel pump and it's poor location in the engine bay. When the fuel pump fails it can destroy the injection pump which is problem #2. Upgrade both the fuel pump and injection pump. And then locate a better quality fuel pump on the frame rail near the fuel tank so it pushes diesel fuel. Then buy an upgraded injection pump with new computer and better internals.....I like Blue Chip Special X. Problem #3 was the weak transmission. Upgrades done to the 47re can be very rewarding in terms of reliability and much better fuel mileage. Seems that the internals of the 47re, in particular, were lacking in many areas, and also the low fluid pressures needed to do a good job of controlling the torque converter. My upgraded (Goerend parts) transmission is just so much more superior to the stock trans. Fuel mileage has really improved.

I have a 95 Ram 1500. 5.9 engine. Any idea why I cannot get the original nor new ignition switch to fit flush? Everything seems to line up. There is a web like covered rod or something at the bottom of the bottom hole in the steering column I thought was a little out of place and not letting the switch fit flush but not sure.

I got a giggle out of this, these are all 97-01 problems (2002 for the 2500/3500) secondly 94 was the first year, that being said, 94/95 shared ALOT of sensors from the 91-93 first gens map, iac, taillight harnesses ( they have round pins as to where 96/01 had flat pins ). Continuing on other nit picking spots, its a straight axle truck on the 4wd models, OF COURSE the wheel is going to follow the road its the nature of the beast. ( not to say it can't be eliminated), the transmission issues with the solenoids also had me tickled a little bit, there is 4 different transmissions the 1500 came with, the 46re ( the most used trans ) being the problem child, there was also the NV2500, the 46rh ( the hydraulic version of the 46re, ) and the 47rh a beefier version of the 46 series trans. Then you get to the 2wd trucks, rust is absolutely correct, don't sneeze around these trucks otherwise its rotted out, but the 2wd trucks have an additional party piece involved with the frame right where the sway bar mounts, it has no drain holes where it mounts so with it being the lowest point in that section of frame it rots out. Oh and don't forget the rear end, the 1500s love to eat those. OH AGAIN, the biggest problem of them all, the intake manifold which has the valley cover attached to it in a separate piece, the aluminum expands quicker than the heads and the valley cover causing oil to get in the intake and outside and run down the front and back of the block, further engine related issues is the siamesed heads they WILL crack causing miss fires until they warm up ( in some cases like my truck ) or they warp far enough to start burning coolant. These cracks are always between cylinders 3 and 5, 4 and 6. Big ole rant done, also I believe you guys have a video about doing window guides on the P2 generation of the S60/V70/XC70/S80/XC90, the S80 (1998-2006) and the XC90 (2002-2016) need separate videos because their window regulators while use the same blue anchors have a totally different operation of the window so it physically can't apply.
