@@frivera735 Many are caused by long idle times which fleet vehicles are prone to. Low oil pressure at idle seems to be the culprit. There are good videos out there by professional hemi techs who recommend changing to the high volume oil pumps which in your case might be too late. Don’t purchase lease returns hemi’s

2012 with 248,000 on it today! Regular oil changes! 4th set of tires. Had some issues EARLY on... like power window was very slow, sticks in the cold... manifold gaskets replaced, AC fixed (something that required the dash come off), something with the Trans (a few times, same thing, put the truck in limp mode, other time left me in the street needing tow). I've replaced the suspension, breaks and rotors 4 times, Headlamp wire harness, both front wheel bearing, a bad coil.... but, I've never changed the radiator coolant, or any of the differentials, or any of that other stuff and she is driving me down the road. I want to get 300k out of it. It doesn't owe me anything. I'll get something pretty again after that!

A few things to note....the 09-12 rams have copper spark plugs that have to be done every 30,000 miles and the coolant is 5 years, 100,000 miles for those same years. The 13 and up had some changes to make the maintenance interval longer. Also, i never flush my transmission. Just drain and refill and new filter. My 09 manual says to change trans fluid at 10 years, 120,000 miles but i do it sooner.

I always check the ball joints by jacking the wheel up by the bottom of the lower control arm. With the wheel hanging down, puts more tension on the ball joints, you might not catch a bad ball joint in its early stages.

Im at 200k, with a 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 hemi. Still going strong!. Thus far, I have replaced a new belt, starter, an alternator, and a few sets of brakes, a bad oil pressure sensor, and a bad wheel hub, but honestly changing the oil when the dash reminds you will save you a lot, and the transmission fluid and filter, every 50-60 thousand mikes. Other that my Ram runs like champ.

I still have my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab Lonestar Edition 5.7 liter hemi flex-fuel, with over 422,000 miles. I remember buying the truck brand new back in 07 of November when it was called "King of a trucks." And not to mention, I still have "Lifetime Powertrain warranty" for as long as I own a vehicle under my name. And of course your regular maintenance and other stuff. When it comes to my automatic transmission I've only had it flushed 3 times, every 30K miles up to 90k miles. After that I just drop the pan and drain the fluid. Replace filter and gasket every 30K miles. Never flush an automatic transmission with high mileage. As for my differential I changed every 60K miles other than that it's still running like a champ. Good video!

No need to replace trans oil and filter every 30k. Every 60k is enough. But its up to you. My sister a 2003 1500 5.7 with the 545rfe it has 365k and it's still on its original trans. And she also has a 18 2500 6.4 with a 66rfe it has 95k and it also has lifetime warranty. I replaced the valve body at 55k due to a warped valve body. The main issue with the newer 65, 66, and 68rfe trans are valve body's warping, od clutches Buring up causing flare 4th gear and slips In 5th. On the newer 68 I have been seeing the snap ring pop off 2c piston. The truck will still run and shift OK most of the time. It may get a dtc set p2701. The 545rfe are mostly reliable.

Good video, 100,000 miles on coolant seems to long to go, and radiator hoses need to be changed out at 60-70,000 miles in my opinion, and I would replace the thermostat, hoses start to get hard. Newer trucks do not have transmission dip sticks, I’m not convinced that the lifetime fluid is all that.

When checking transmission fluid read the dipstick, it tells you check with the transmission in neutral. Otherwise you get a bad reading
@ejism3117
@ejism3117 3 жыл бұрын
The zf 8 speed on a few of the 1500s dont have a transmission dipstick. Theres a fill plug on the side of the transmission. Fluid should slowly flow out if its full. The pan and filter is all one unit so if you need to change fluid, do the pan also. And you will need a fluid transfer pump to get fluid back into transmission. A cheap $10 pump from a auto parts store will work fine

Yep no need to have dealer do trans service. Just make sure to use correct oil for 8 speeds. I have worked on many of these trans, customers replace there trans oil but use regular atf4. Then the bring it in to the dealer complaining the trans issues. Take a sample and it's pink oil. Automatic warranty decline on trans. I felt bad for a customer, he was a Vietnam War vet and ran over something, it cracked the pan. So he pulled the pan off and jbweld it which actually stop the leak, but he used atf4. Since most 8 speeds transmission repairs require us to email pictures of fluid and stuff, they would have not covered a replacement under warranty due to impact damage. So if you don't know what you are doing they yeah bring it in to the dealer or a good mechanic that knows how to service this trans.

Thank you for the video. its very helpful. I'm thinking of purchasing a 2012 ST 4x4. It has 129k miles on it. No accidents per carfax report. Oil has been changed regularly along with the air filter when needed. Struts replaced at 90k, tranny flushed at 93k, and plugs replaced at 110k. Is there anything else I should look for or be concerned about? I'm a first time truck/RAM owner. Any help or advice from anyone would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks again...

I bought my 2015 new and it only has 52.5k miles on it. I had the hemi tick and a few small things break but overall it's a solid truck!

Add Lubegard Biotech (3 oz per quart of oil) I added a full 15oz bottle on the last oil change and the tick disappeared almost immediately.

@@frankwong294Most tics are caused by a broken exhaust manifold bolt and oil doesn't kill that.

Are there any grease points on the manufacturer upper control arms or anywhere on the front of the vehicle? I'm getting a squeak and thought it was the struts, then maybe control arm, but it may be the sway bar. It's only with up/down movement.

Got a question, I have a 2017 ram 1500 with a V6 gas engine and recently, there is a lot of vibration when I’m either accelerating or just holding the gas pedal to maintain speed. As soon as I release the gas pedal, it feels like the vibration intensifies for a few seconds and then it becomes a very smooth ride. What could that possibly be?

2016 Ram 1500 with 79,000 miles. Has the 8 speed transmission and doesn’t have the trans dipstick… wish it did so I could check it. Side note, why did Dodge not think it was a good idea to have a cab air filter on my model? Had to add my own with and aftermarket kit.

Clips for the coil packs. I accidentally broke one of the clips to the packs, I was able to tywrap the clip to the coil pack. It was a small black tab that broke however the good news is that it's the forward cylinder on the passenger side. Any idea on how to replace it?

Just did my plugs on my 12 Ram. As long as you have a swivel and a plug socket its easy. Plugs were pretty bad ( 65k miles) , mass air flow needed a clean also. Just praying the hemi tick goes away with new ex manifold.

If the sound goes awAy when heated it’s a manifold stud, if it sounds like ping pong balls then you have a lifter issue.

@@okitailsnscales1707 it's the front and back studs holding the manifold shield as well as the manifold itself. They usually snap off creating exhaust leaks.
