Worked nicely to remove a mouse nest from the blower housing on a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer that stays parked outside and covered most of the time. Only difference was the need to remove a small switch that blocked the reservoirs from sliding forward. I guess the switch activated the light underneath the hood when it is raised. Thanks for the tutorial. I've got 250k miles on the Merc and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. And guidance like you provide makes that easier to do on a budget.

Thank you for this very detailed video! I just changed out my blower motor on my 1998 Eddie Bauer Explorer with the tips I learned on this video; took me under an hour. Saved me $$$$ too! Advance Auto wanted to charge me $75 for the part alone, no installation. If I had a garage do it, I guarantee it would have been $100 minimum for labor. All told, with the part I bought off ebay new, it cost me an hour and $38. Needless to say, I'm a happy guy. :)

@d0gg0d I would check the plug to the blower motor first to see if there is current going to it when the heater is on. if there is, the blower motor is likely bad. If there isn't current current going to the plug then you may want to check the fuse to see if it's bad.

Oh to be young again...:)...Nice job, Thanks for the video..I wanted to see what's involved...Not hard but, old bolts on explorers can be troublesome .If a real mechanic, like yourself, can do that for under 150 it's worth every penny...Real mechanics are like hens teeth now; everybody is a swapologist...There are test for everything but, they'd rather figure it out through trial and error... Thanks for the upload...>>> I just saw I replied to you three years ago...about the same car...:)...Good health to you and yours.

My blower motor stop suddenly. I thought it could be a relay but that wasn't the case. I tracked everything out all the way up to where the wire plugs into the back of the blower motor. I removed the blower motor. I hooked the blower motor to my battery charge and it didn't turn. Looking in the case I saw there was so much black crud/ dust I had to blow and vacuum it out. . Brushed looked decent so I reinstalled it and worked like a champ. When I later went back to test it, It wouldn't work. Any suggestions on my next step? Thank you! I enjoyed the video! Mae

My 96 blower isnt making any noise, but i have to give it a wack with a rubber mallet for it to come on while the key is on and fan switch is engaged for it to start spinning. Ive noticed over time that this trick doesnt work for as long. A few months ago, I could hit it once and it would work for a month or 2, but now if i do it it will work until I turn it off, and then it wont start again until i give it a wack again.

I have a 99' F150 and the a/c blower motor has gone out, do you have a video to replace it, it doesn't really match this video and my cruise control has stopped working, any suggestions to fix it?

Is this video the same for a 1999 Ranger XLT? Please reply. Thx.

+Andy Sacks This procedure should be the same or similar on 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01 Ford Explorer, 01-03 Explorer Sport, 01-05 Explorer Sport Trac and 97-01 Mercury Mountaineer. This motor also fits 98-08 Ford Ranger, though installation may be somewhat different.

1A Auto Parts i have to tap the blower itself to get it to come on< im not sure what it is, took it apart and cleaned it and its still doing it, do you think it needs a whole new blower? thank you!

Thank you for watching! It is possible the motor itself is starting to fail which would require replacing it. 888-844-3393

Is there any reason why someone would unhook the two hoses going into the firewall of a Ranger and bypass those hoses? does that have anything to do with the heater? My ranger blows air but its cold air when i have the heat selected and it smells a little like antifreeze.

Hey thanks I'm about to try this.. if I need to replace the resistor too, should I do that before or after the blower motor? Not sure but I suppose I'll be able to tell when I'm in there..

The order on which you replace them in shouldn't matter. We carry new replacement blower motors and resistors on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1A Auto Parts thanks for your reply! Also I got stuck with the blower motor wheel, is there some trick to taking it off? I couldn't find out how right away, or any videos to help. I was told I don't need a new one, just the motor. Also if there's a video for safely replacing the resistor that would be cool :)

Unz360 There may be a c-clip that holds the cage to the motor. We carry both the cage and the complete assembly on our website. A whole new motor and cage assembly isn't too much more, if you can't get the cage off. Sometimes those cages can also get brittle over time. Here's a link to the blower motors and blower motor cages on our website if you would like to see what we have. www.1aauto.com/1A/blower-motor/Ford/Explorer?VideoReply&KZfaq&ATony
