What's the benefit of the BEAMS architecture in the 1JZ-GTE VVTi? The other variants and 2JZ variants don't have the BEAMS architecture, right?

Yeah your right but for people going above stock power there is a difference.... matching a 1jz revs with a 2 jz is the difference ....... get a 2jz reving with forged Internals is where it's at fuel and boost is the limit kinda

If the rod material is the same, then yes it would be stronger because there is less area to flex. Same goes toward an inline 4 cam vs inline 6 cam, the longer inline 6 cam will be more prone to flexing.

Just got my first 1JZ-GTE this weekend. My turbos are almost perpetually spooled. This engine is so smooth.

Early 90’s Celica can not accept a 2JZ. Trust me, I’ve swapped dozens of them to 3S-GTE.

1JZ sounds better and makes decent power still. Back in the day an old D1 drifter had a 1JZ powered Chaser making 900.

I drove a factory standard 1jz in a Soarer and was struck by its incredible smoothness, i remains the only motor I’ve experienced that is as smooth as a 1uz which I chose because I’m a V8 lover(apparently the jz is heavier than the uz?) I’m learning that Toyota’s mission to reduce NVH is parallel to it’s mission to build reliable engines. My thinking is that these motors being so smooth goes hand in hand with their strength. Almost like they don’t rub and shake themselves to bits because they don’t rub and shake. So much smoother than any other engines I’ve experienced. They’re the first engines I’ve called beautiful and I never even knew combustion engines could be this smooth.

Inline 6 are known to be very smooth engines because they have a perfectly balanced crankshaft

Nabil Birouk But of all inline 6s the JZs are the smoothest. Drive the smoothest 6 you’ve ever driven then drive a properly running JZ with a factory exhaust and you will feel the difference. Also somehow the UZ V8s are as smooth as the JZ 6s. If you haven’t had a go at these amazing Toyota motors then do yourself a favour.

Cast iron block vs Aluminium if I recall. Makes a huge difference and probably why Toyota never used them in any racing capacity outside of their Le Mans entry Supra.

I have a 2JZge built in my Lexus. It works like a clock, with no shake and rattle. It's impressive how smooth and linear the power delivery is. Funny fact, sometimes, I bring the car to my car repair shop, when I sense the first ratttles on him. One time even before the check engine light got on. Because whatever motion a 2JZ starts to have, is a sign for a problem with injectors or the ignition coils. It's always those two. The rest never breaks.

The 1jz vvti is an absolute torque monster dude, it has tons of torque down low. I can accelerate uphill in 5th gear at 2000rpm part throttle and out of boost in my 3700lb chaser. I can floor it on the highway going 90kms n hr in 5th and be in boost instantly. I get full boost before 2500rpm and the car hauls ass until around 6500 where it dies out a bit until the 7200rpm limiter. Cams, and a slightly larger stock position turbo with a standalone ecu should see this motor to 350whp, probably equal torque figure, with a similar looking powerband but full power out to 7500rpm.

I'm no car person, but a few months before this, a youtuber car builder was convinced to put a 1J in his wifes car for drifting purposes. It sounds really good and she's getting really good.

i had a 1jzgte in a 95 SC300, now i have a 2jzgte vvti in my 99 SC300.......i prefer the 2jz, but you cant go wrong with either

Interference engine vs no interference engine. 2JZ without vvti is easyer to tune and doesn't shatter itself to bits when somethings goes wrong with the timing belt. The real difference is on the highway. You can eco drive a 2jZ vvti pretty well (29 mpg for me, please notice that this number is achieved with revised geometry). The non vvti not so much.

Thanx you! The 1JZ is capable as the 2JZ. The 2JZ is just a Stroked 1JZ with a couple of turbos slapped on the engine than just one!

How to solve the 7mgte problems: replace head gasket with a MHG (metal head gasket) and torque the head bolts above factory specifications (of ~56lb·ft if i remember) to ~75lb·ft. You also need to either add chimes (I think thats the word in english) to increase the oil pressure, or change the oil pump. The oil pump doesnt make enough pressure at higher rpms which leads to oil starvation. Im preparing to work on a mk3 supra with a 7mgte (since 1jzs are rare... And people like to make em way more expensive. People who've worked with the 7mgte will tell you it has better potential than the 1jz stock bottom, but idk personally

One things is for sure, companies are making power out of their engine every time, reliability is its twin. Overkilling its parts for reliability. Later in years, people/builder both from the company and customers finds that a particular engine is kind of strong as they imagined. Now cross cutting comes to play. I'm not saying that first gen engines are greater that the later ones, I'm just pointing out about how most of us desires of power made us hungry. This is subjective, just my opinion if its just okay to give one.

NONE The 1 GZ FE is the best engine Toyota has ever produced. Its basically 2 1jz's bolted together. Tho i LOVE 1jz's / 2jz's and 4age's also.

1jz is short block .. low end power to mid .. 2jz long block ..high end power .. its depends on how u setup the engine .. but 2jz is square engine is the best for speed .. for drift 1jz low end to mid power ..

Here from RB land to satisfy curiosity about putting 1JZ into GTS-t The block is pretty impressive huh. Bloody shame how they sound tho.... pretty average compared to an RB20/RB25, to put it nicely. How do you make them sound better, more like an RB?

2jzgte is better in every way from the larger displacement to the superior sequential fuel injection. Nobody has ever removed a 2jzgte and replaced it with a 1jzgte... many have removed a 1jz and replaced with a 2jz. Ive owned a 1jz, built a 1.5jz with a big single and had several 2jz’s.

If u ask me...in daily driving through city street driving...1jz is better...the fuel consumption not so high and has better response during low to mid rpm...if somehow you're working from city to city or cross states..i'd go with 2jz..you'll feel the difference if u own one of these engine..

1jzgte all the way, my reasoning is simple but true as had many of both said engines, 1jzgte twin turbo, 1jzvvti single turbo, 2jzgte twin turbo non vvti.first and foremost the 1jzgte sounds much better than a 2jzgte, especially mid to high in the rev range more ballsy something the 2jz engine lost in the extra capacity.second the 1jzgte both variants run much cooler than the 2jzgte (proven many times) the 2jzgte engine is a bigger to keep cool no matter what fans, shrouds, radiator you use they run hot as a 7mgte lolFinally the cost of the 1jzgte twin turbo engine and auto, ecu, harness etc can be had for as little as $500 from a Soarer, try 2jzgte $2500 (twin turbo non vvti) to $3500 (vvti)Also the 1jzgte has more torque in stock twin turbo than a Nissan rb26dett ($4,000 to $5,000)

Gtfloor Farkn You completely left out the best route: 2jz ge non vvti with a built head. Sounds so much better than the 2jz gte's, just as strong with the built head, and can be had for nearly as cheap as a 1jz. Throw a cple grand at the head with and get a good turbo: you've got an engine that's is strong as any jz, will last longer, and run as high of hp on the reg, no problem.

VVTi definitely, for your average street car at least. But if its not an average street car then the funds are there for stronger rods. So yeah, vvti all day long. The torque you get below 3k is fantastic for a daily driver, effortless to drive. You can be in or out of boost at will without changing gears. Great fuel economy for a street car too, which is something no one likes to talk about for some reason. In the last few years going to a big 60mm plus sized turbo with a top mount manifold is unneeded with the advances in turbo technology. Smaller turbo's now flow more than ever before, many company's do stock location ct15b hybrids that can hit 500bhp.
