This episode we take you to some of the lesser visited gorges along the Gibb. Not only is it the perfect time for us to visit, as there are barely (or no) other people here, but since there was a big rain event in the middle of the season there is still plenty of water in all the gorges.
We start off with Adcock Gorge, and it is a bit harder to get here as the dirt road only takes you about halfway there. The other half is a track that has some decent washouts and interesting bits, nothing too crazy but enough to deter most people from towing their caravans in here. The gorge itself is nestled in an Amphitheater like canyon with lush green vegetation all around. There wasn't too much water flowing but it didn't stop us from exploring and taking our daily shower in the bottom pool!
Next up was Galvans Gorge. The parking area for this gorge is directly next to the Gibb and the walk is only about 1km long. This gorge is one of our favourites, it just seems to have everything: Beautiful scenery, rock jumps, a rope swing and a nice shady area to relax next to the main pool.
Our plan for the next day was to get up early and head to Manning Gorge, but the owners at Barnett River Roadhouse decided to shut it without giving prior notice to anyone. Sorry, they posted they are shutting the gorge at 3pm the last day it was open..... Very poor of them and if we have the chance to come back to visit this part of the world, we will remember this little stunt. We don't understand how this can be privately owned instead of jointly managed with Parks and Wildlife, which would allow people to visit as long as the roads are open.
We headed off to the next destination, the Barnett River Gorges. This stretch of river is bounded by multiple gorges and even though the walk isn't easy to stay on the trail, it is worth it. We climbed into the gorge and went exploring and found some very unique rock art and cool spots.
Join us again next week as more of our plans get tossed and we begin a battle against time to make it to all the main spots we wanted to see along the Gibb!
PS: Please do some research before hitting the tracks, since they can change quickly and might be closed again!

I'm left wondering how accessible the narrow tracks in Tassie are in a Mog 🤔
@PatandJele
@PatandJele 2 ай бұрын
Friends of ours just toured Tassie in their Mog for almost 2 months and didn't have too much difficulty. They are about 300mm shorter than we are though.
