This week we're heading down to Purnululu National Park, "The Bungle Bungles".
We almost skipped it, because it is quite a detour and we were already travelling across the top of Australia late in the season. Luckily, we had friends working down there, which was a perfect opportunity to combine visiting our friends and the Bungle Bungles.
The road in, called Spring Creek Track, is a windy gravel road with massive corrugations, some rocks sticking out and a few creek crossings, which can get quite deep after a bit of rain.
We actually liked the drive in since it wasn't just a straight corrugated road and luckily they've just graded some sections.
Purnululu National Park offers a lot of beautiful walks, some are pretty short and some can be multi day hikes. Since it was around 40 degrees C every day, we tried to do hikes in the morning to avoid the heat (well, it was 30 degrees C already in the morning, but at least not 40 yet).
On day one we were already blown away by the landscape and the composition of the rocks. It looks like little rocks cemented together! The walk to mini palms was our favorite and even overtook Carnarvon Gorge in Queensland, which used to be Pat's favorite. The narrow gorge in a beautiful red color and about 200 meter high cliffs with palm trees growing everywhere was one of the most spectacular views.
Our friends usually run tours in this area and know some of these walks by heart, but they never had the chance to do Mini Palms and were blown away, too!
On the following day we wanted to get to the domes early in the morning to watch the sunrise. The road was pretty corrugated and especially when driving in the dark and you can't see all the pot holes you have to be extra careful. But we can tell you, it was sooo worth it.
Because it was late in the season, there were no more helicopters flying in the park BUT still, we would have needed to purchase a commercial permit to be able to fly our drone... A commercial permit for a small creator like us is way too expensive. We can tell you, the view of the domes during sunrise must be insane from the drone perspective ;), especially when you have to grey expedition trucks parked with people on the roof! A perfect morning!
When you plan a trip to the Bungle Bungles, make sure you spend a couple of days in the park and do as many hikes as you can. Each hike is different and beautiful!
Next week will be our final episode in Western Australia! Episode 35!!!

My opinion is that the Bungle Bungle area is the most spectacular place of any remote part of Australia. My first visit was over 20 years ago and I almost had the place to myself. I’ve been a few more times since taking southern friends there as we live in the NT. These days in the peak season I believe the amount of visitors detract from the experience. Some don’t show it the respect it deserves. You were fortunate to visit during a time when less people are there. I’m glad you got to see and enjoy the experience. I also think that it’s a very much must visit location, just don’t tell anyone or everyone will will want to go there 😂. P.S. no more little dances please Patrick😅😅😅.

Yes most definitely. I don't want to imagine what it looks like in peak season with buses full of tourists getting ferried through. Although there are more remote places in the Bungles to go to like hiking to the five fingers overnight. That is something that would have to be done in the winter with more mild temperatures. We are glad we went when it was so empty, only one of the campgrounds was still open when we were there and there were about 5 cars there in total. Amazing time and the temperature at night was comfortable, we ended up not having to use our AC at all in the few days we were there. Haha roger that, I'll stick to things I know I'm good at ;)

Hey Jele and Patrick The Bungles are a truly amazing place. Well worth the slow drive in from the highway. After Lake Argyle may I recommend Judbarra / Gregory NP south from Timber Creek. Thanks for taking us all along.

Hey, Thank you! We really loved it there. So many beautiful walks and places to explore! Gregory NP was on the list but sadly we had to skip it since they closed the tracks (end of season).

Those Bungle gorges look pretty spectacular from here. Interesting rock formations, pebble filled boulders at the base. Glad you made the effort. Dangerously hot and dry though. The lakes in the next vid are decidedly more appealing. Look forward to catching up with your next wetter episode!X

Yes they are absolutely spectacular. We were blown away as not many people take the detour and rough track to get here. Yes the next episode was nice as well, with water temperatures around 31 degrees!!

Hi guys. Have you had any trouble with the mog being to high and/or wide to go every where you have wanted to go?
@PatandJele
@PatandJele Ай бұрын
Hey The width can be an issue sometimes but honestly not often. There were a few tracks in southern WA that I wouldn't recommend taking a Mog down or even a 200 series if you don't like scratches. The height was fine most of the time. Obvisouly you need to jump out and spot a bit more because it can get pretty close. There are more and more trucks travelling and I think it gets better and better. Some roads have a GVM limit though which can be more of an issue🙄
