Coming from the Northeast of the USA and as a retired Law Enforcement Officer, my observation is the public/tourists have way too much access in this courtyard and to the exterior of the guards posts. Touching and petting the horses should also be forbidden. People today worldwide are very rude and very ignorant. It's not like the years ago where people had common sense and respect. Anyone who interferes with the Guards/horses/officers should be immediately locked up. Signs should be posted to that effect.

Of the many people in this clip, only one behaved in what might be described as an ignorant manner. He touched the reins, got shouted at, and moved away. Incident over. The 'rude tourist' wasn't actually rude at all. An obviously disturbed man didn't do anything apart from acting oddly. Neither the police nor the guards had to make threats or resort to force of any kind. You are the type of LEO that the civilised parts of the world neither need nor want.

Hi there. Part of the culture and history of The King's Guard is to be relatively accessible to the public, where 90% of visitors are from overseas. It is a great display of heraldry and the horses are used to the crowds. Most people do not understand that these are genuinely professional soldiers, and the best of the best. Sure, some of it is definitely for show, but the fact there's machine gun carrying cops and soldiers ready to protect The King there at all times usually keeps most people in check. I've been there several times, and the USA tourists are nearly to a person , respectful. I do agree there's a lot of access, but there's also government people with concealed carry within the crowds, too. It is a pretty safe environment. Most people are lovely , and they bring money and make memories. There's always idiots, and they have no regard for the soldiers, horses or the other tourists.

@@slaterslater5944 'Sidney and Beatrice Webb’s The Kings Highway, which enlarges on the legal meaning of ‘highway’ (as it applied in 1913 when their book was published): “Thus ‘the right of the public in a highway is an easement of passage only - a right of passing and re-passing. In the language of pleading, a party can only justify passing along, not being in, a highway’ (Law of Highways, by William W. Mackenzie, 16th edition, 1911, p. 2). Hence it has been expressly held that there is no right to use a highway for racing, or for a public meeting (ibid.); nor may a man stand still on the road to shoot pheasants flying over it (R. v. Pratt, 1855, 4 E. and B. 860). He may not even walk up and down so as maliciously to interfere with others’ rights (Harrison v. Duke of Rutland, 1893, 1 Q.B. 142), - see The Common Law of England, by Blake Odgers, 1911, vol. i. pp. 7-10. It is only inferentially that it has quite recently been suggested that a passenger along a highway may lawfully stop to rest on it for a short time, or to take a sketch (per A. L. Smith, L. J. in Hickman v. Matsey, 1900, 1 Q.B. 756). Any other use of a highway is a trespass. But in legal definitions, as in common parlance, the term highway is now used to denote the land as well as the easement. ‘The term highway in its widest sense comprises all portions of land over which every subject of the Crown may lawfully pass’ (Law of Highways, by W. W. Mackenzie, 16th edition, 1911, p. 1).” English Local Government: the History of the King’s Highway, Sidney and Beatrice Webb (1913) 'So far as the traveller was concerned, the Norman Conquest brought change. Under the Anglo-Saxons, the sovereign was considered the guardian of public property; thus, all public roads and bridges were considered his, and he had a duty to enact services for their preservation as part of the trinoda necessitas.' (from ROADS, AND THOSE IN TRING A BRIEF HISTORY OF ENGLISH ROADS: THE PRE-TURNPIKE ERA) After 1066, many kings and queens legislated control and upkeep of their highways.

After watching several of these videos it is blarringly obvious that rules need to be changed in regards to how close the tourists can get to the guards. There should be a 6ft. Separation rule and no touching guards or horses at any time. This should be posted throughout the area. In today's world respect, dignity and manners are the exception to the rule. Those in charge need to act on this for everyone's safety.

Why would adults ( many with children) crowd around watching armed police and the King’s guards in a confrontation with someone? Don’t they stop to think how it could easily turn nasty?

I've seen people in London (even with kids) standing and watching after a bomb has gone off. They're usually very reluctant to leave, even when the police tell them to for their own safety.

Its a public pavement/sidewalk. If it was cordoned off, people would be walking on the road. The only way to stop this is by removing the horses and Guards..

It really is time to create an exclusion zone around the guard, especially the horses, touching the rains should be a fixed penalty of £200 or more.
