My grandFater bought that many years ago when my grandma had a stroke, he never cooked in his entire life .. and out of nowhere, one day, he had to learn how to cook stuff .. he was able to feed my grandma and himself for 5 years before they passed away .. it might not be a chef's tool but it surely is a great device for many people !

Hey guys, Never commented before but I just wanted to say a few things. My mum has one of these halogens and she bakes amazing cakes in it. She uses a normal sponge recipe and just due to playing around with timings and temperatures shes got it "Sorted". Also if you use enamel dishes in the halogen they cook sausages/fishfingers etc etc a lot better. They are more evenly cooked and they brown better. Also you can do brilliant roasties in a halogen with a lot less oil than you would do normally, just preheat the tray as normal and shove the spuds in. Baked potatoes work really well in the halogen as well. This gadget does have its uses I promise and as ovens over here in Malta are a little temperamental (eg two temperature settings: on and off 🤦‍♀️) the halogen is a great substitute. Please dony write it off just yet!! All the best and stay safe guys x

My husband and I used to have one of those (not the specific brand) when we first moved in together and couldn't afford a proper oven. We called it "the bug" because the top looked like a bug's head to me :P. It kept us fed for several years. We never attempted to deep fry anything since we don't really eat deep fried stuff anyway. But it's definitely convenient and ideal for students. Seeing a professional chef get so offended by the mere existence of this device is priceless :P

When these things first appeared (in this form) they were marketed as 'halogen ovens', the air fryer is a change in marketing to appeal to the healthier eating crowd. My mum has had one of these for about 10 years now and she loves it. She lives on her own and so is usually cooking for one, and this is quicker and easier for her than the oven. It's great for sausages and chicken, it's also great for warming things up (reheated pizza works a treat in this). They're not for everyone and of course a chef is going to achieve far more with a proper oven and hob, but you're definitely not the target market for this thing. They're far from perfect of course, but my mum gets a lot of use from hers.

Originally - many years ago - they were just a fan-forced turbo oven with no halogen light. They work really well for a variety of foods but I think they have been overtaken by the newer large air-fryers. I still use mine for various things. They are excellent for crispy roast potatoes but I do them in a metal cake tin with a little clarified butter and olive oil on the top rack. They are also great for a small leg of lamb.

I’ve been rocking an airfryer for years now and I find the best chips are preboiled, tossed in a little oil, herbs spices etc then put in the airfryer. The fluffy bits on the edges get so crispy and the insides are stay light and fluffy. If you can’t be bothered with the extra cooking step, add a light dusting of any kind of flour and that will help them crisp up too.

We have had this in our homes for years and years and recommended it to everyone! We use it to make crispy potatoes and baked chicken. We also use it to bake breads in the morning so we do not have to heat up an oven. Just throw em in there and have baked breads in less than 10 minutes. We also use it for pizza, especially heating up leftover pizza. It is literally amazing for all kinds of stuff! It is a healthier option of baking a lot of stuff that would otherwise get drowned in oils or butter in a pan.

Ben's dad jokes are always my favourites. He has been a dad the longest though - Tyrone must be in middle school by this point, right? Also, my friends have an air fryer, although it's different than this one, and we have found through lots of experimenting that the thing it's best for are frozen junk food things (fries, chicken nuggets, premade burritos), which do come out more crispy like they've been fried rather than baked. Fresh things don't seem to work as well.

I have one of these, and I use it a LOT. But almost exclusively as a replacement as an oven, rather than as a fryer. I live in a fairly warm climate, and I love the fact that I can load it up in the kitchen, then take it out on the patio to run, so I get baked food without heating up my home by using the oven. There are some things that a standard oven does better, but for cooking small amounts of something, for baking without heating up the house, or when I need to bake at two different temperatures (One in the standard oven, one in the counter-top) it's hard to beat.

It's not an air fryer and that's why it doesn't work well as an air fryer. It's a halogen oven. Most air fryers cook in a much smaller space, so that the air gets superheated. Anything needing frying needs oil, and those chips didn't have enough. Even in air fryers you need a tablespoon or two of oil. These guys didn't use it as it should be used.
@RAD6150
@RAD6150 4 жыл бұрын
They followed the directions as they were doing it... it is called, by the manufacturer, a "halogen air fryer." I have seen many sized air fryers that all work better than that one. And if you look at the fries in the basket, they are covered in oil. No matter what they did, that steak was not going to have maillard browning without overcooking. At 5:37 both gave a very good summary of the device...

I have one of these and like it very much for certain things, especially chicken and sausage with veg underneath catching the drippings. There are good reasons for some people to use these, and if you'd focused on those instead of how much "better" food comes out of a full oven or deep fryer your review would have been more useful. Even better would be a comparison of the glass halogen oven with a basketed air fryer, the newish air fryer/convection toaster oven, and multi-use Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot with a/f lid. A challenge with each mate turning out something good from one of these would be interesting and fun.

Just came across your channel. I've been using halogen ovens for over 12years, I'm on my 3rd one now. Dropped the glass bowl and broke one. It was an absolute life saver when our landlord took 12 months to replace the wall oven in the rental house. I cooked Xmas dinner for 8 people in that glass oven. They are great for smaller families cooking meals for 2 people. We use ours about 3x a week. Biggest problem is that if you do have to wash the bowl, make sure that you have a large sink.!! Or big dishwasher. !!

I’ve had one of these just over ten years. I bought it just to give me an extra cooking option and found it so useful I’ve never used my actual oven since. I do everything I would have normally done in my standard oven quicker and with much better results. I guess it’s each to their own but it does take a little getting used to at first.

Love Ben's positivity .I actually used one of these in a caravan that was our temporary home whilst we finished our home in Portugal as the caravan had just a grill and a hob ,it cooked meat chicken fish etc plus stews casseroles spag bols and the rest .. Of course I can't see it being in a chef's kitchen but it has a place elsewhere 😊

I bought one of these in offer for £20 last week. I find it quicker, more convenient and more energy efficient than my main oven. I disagreed a whole chicken in 45 minutes and the skin was far crispier than anything my oven can produce. For me it's great!

My husband and I have something called a Power Air Fryer Pro Plus-- lots of words that make it sound gimmicky but it works! We found it on sale one day and gave it a go. It's a convection oven, air fryer, dehydrator, rotisserie, and has a few other settings. It also comes with racks, a cylindrical fry basket that works on the rotisserie setting, rotisserie rod and skewers for kabobs. The meats are always cooked perfectly, juicy on the inside with good coloring/crust on the outside and have even gotten the grill/sear marks from the racks. It typically takes about 25-30 minutes for meats(depending on what you cook, a pork or beef roast might take about 40), about 10 minutes for fries and then 7-10 for things like chicken nuggets or smaller pieces of meat. A pizza typically takes around 7-10 minutes and the crust is always crispy. Jerky came out like jerky lol. My only complaint is the drip tray should be deeper because even with lining with foil, it's tricky to clean it without making a mess, but a quick remedy was using a small baking/cake pan to catch it.

I have one and cook most of my food in it. Kale chips, sausages, fish in foil, oven chips etc etc. I have never steamed veggies in it, but sounds good..Much quicker than a regular oven and given that today we are facing an energy crisis, I'm glad I've got this. Never used my big oven [I'm in a rented studio] Can roast chicken pieces in it, but use my small countertop oven for a bigger chicken. With energy hikes I'll be roasting skin in my halogen oven and cooking the chicken in a pressure cooker. My cooking has changed since the energy hikes.
@clg850b
@clg850b Жыл бұрын
Just ordered one today as it's much more economical than using the main ovens. Like the idea of pressure cooking the skinned chicken and then crisping the skin in the halogen oven, will definitely try that.
