I was 7 and "spectating" and i would add a rook in the corner without them noticing. If its the same colour as their pieces. They wouldnt notice it. But if its an opposite colour, when they see it they be like wtf

White would of won at 9:18 if he knew how to play chess. There is one play here that wins white the game. If he didn’t have an engine running it he would of saw it. But its not a normal play which is why it didn’t see it

Considering Leela sees the position as even, I'm gonna need to hear the line as any simple idea likely doesn't work. There are times where the engine will crash and burn and completely miss a winning idea, but this happens rarely enough that I would at least need to hear what winning idea it supposedly missed.

@@lordtoomas How do I learn chess when no one plays classical and I don't get to have time to think. I wish these apps matched newbs like me with other newbs so that it wouldn't feel like charity for neither of us and we'd both learn things every time we played because we'd actually have time to think and absorb.

Almost all online chess applications these days have adjustable time control settings and some sort of ELO system to match you with people of your skill level. It's not the game's fault that you literally can't search up 'chess' and have the first result be be a website that solves both of your problems.

It's amazing how weak that engines make human players (even incredibly good ones) look sometimes - their concrete ideas really expose the shortcomings of our reliance on pattern recognition and intuition.

@@xAffan well leela still heavily relies on the calculation of millions of games, which then leads to a more intrinsic way of playing, which would be unattainable for a human - because we don't have the memory nor the time on our hands. it still amazes me however how good certain gms are, calculating ahead, yes its based on pattern recognition but that still needs an immense calculation of the best moves your opponent could play.

Seeing the two engines play each other was interesting. Watching them play they come up with moves that I would never have seen and in their match, there was some "weird" moves that did not seem to serve a purpose.Was entertaining to watch. Also I liked the Batman symbol in the background :)

This reminds me of the time many years ago when I got fed up with an engine abuser I ran into multiple times, so I pulled out stockfish to see just how accurate they would play. They played the most boring and unambitious french exchange and 113 moves later they lost on time in a dead even endgame. Worst waste of time of my life, this was far more entertaining.

Yeah, I don't get it. What's the point. There would be no sense of satisfaction or achievement in winning by cheating. Mind you, cheating is also a plague in other video games, and has been for decades. No surprise chess is not immune.

@@capohd28 I'd say a lot of cheaters are just sore losers. Can't really think of any other real reasons. Most people who cheat in sport it's either through pressure placed upon them (Olympics for example) or they can't handle losing so they cheat. 3rd option is they suck.

A more subtle version of this could be setting it up so that engines will play the worst move that is less than 1 pt away from the best move. So they wouldn't outright sac queens which then go untaken, but both trying to self sabotage.

I got some questions that I think a lot of people have, too: How do you make these people play against each other? Do you have some kind of admin privileges? How come they always get banned so soon after these games? Is it just chance that someone from the site is watching the stream, or is there something else? Like titled players' reports go to the top of the list or something?

Black isnt using an "engine" per-say, this is LeelaZero or a modified variant LeelaZeroFish, trained specifically to beat stockfish White is using Stockfish engine.

Reminds me of the scene from Twilight (and in turn the idea of) a mind reader vs someone who can see the future playing a game of chess. Apparently in the book they never actually played a move, it was just them mentally planning it out in their heads.
